Shaha Ticket Drop Rate: Time Invested vs. Reward.

katamaster81899katamaster81899 Member Posts: 1,157 Arc User
Heya guys,

I'm sure many of you guys feel the same way as i do regarding the new addition to the summer festival. Disappointed. I was super excited when I saw the rewards, and I was ready to grind. I expected to do some significant grinding. I was slightly deterred when I opened my first chest after a match of Shaha, and found a single measly copper ticket. However, I figured that perhaps it was because I had lost. However, after I won my next match, I didn't recieve any tickets at all!

I've done 5 matchs, and recieved 2 copper tickets, and one silver ticket. 5 matches is 50 minutes of my time.

The BoP Shaha ball the sits in the tooltray costs 360 copper tickets. Lets assume I get 5 tickets from the balls I volley back and forth with people every day (Because that's what I got from using 5 balls). Over 21 days, thats a solid 105 copper tickers. That leaves an additional 255 to be farmed from this event skirmish. At my current rate of copper ticket gain, I will win 2.4 tickets per hour. That's about 105 hours of boring, buggy shaha matches I will be forced to play through in order to get one measly BoP ball that serves no practical purpose in the game whatsoever

Even if my numbers are off by a factor of 5, it's still far too much grinding to realistically do.

    Working as intended?

For the record, I never cared about the mithril ticket lottery, because I strongly feel it's going to be like a carnival ring toss, designed to not ever actually let you win the big prizes which are for display only, to draw the marks in.

But even the biggest midway ripoff lets those same marks walk away with a cruddy plastic toy for every game played, to lessen the sting.

I thought the description says you won't get anything good until after you opened over 150.

Volleying the ball is something you do many times during a match. You can see from Kata's post that he already has over 150 volleys from playing 5 games, as he did obtain a silver ticket.

But if you *might* get a single ticket from an activity that takes 10 minutes, and items cost hundreds of tickets, it's not very feasible to earn them, even grinding your tail off over the next three weeks. That's ruinous RNG.

There are crafting tasks for ticket-balls, but I've not been in the game and don't know how hard it is to accumulate materials (also from playing sahha), which bind on pickup.

The volley in a party with friends seems to work OK. I have 23 volleys after one volley party. Got 2 balls today, so at that rate would have 46 per day.

The actual match though... only reason I can see to play it is that the Sailcloth tooltip says it drops by participating in the sahha event (not sure if the match or the casual play).

The game itself is kind of fun (but see below). The rewards though. Er, yeah. What the OP said.

About the game itself - the reset time when the ball goes out of bounds or a goal is scored is FAR too long. It disrupts the flow of the game and is a waste of everyone's time. Just teleport everyone where they need to be without all that stun stuff and drop the ball in 2-3 seconds later.

Trouble is, the game itself is basically five-a-side football. I hate, loathe and despise football so there is no way I am going to spend/waste any more of my time playing it throughout the Summer Festival. One game was much more than enough :s

Yeah, the out-of-bounds was unecessary. Should've just bonced the ball back into the play area. As is game is about getting one goal then hitting the ball out of bounds for ten minutes.

The game is boring and stupid ;/

It could have been so much fun, but:
OUT - bad idea, the ball should just bounce back into play area. Now we spend most of the time waiting for restart.
Big vs Small - might be only my impression, but after couple of matches I don't see how small Halflings can compeete with oversized Dragons...
    Rewards are joke...

Thanks for the feedback katamaster! To clarify this pricing a bit so that it can understood in context: you actually are provided with a free ticket-ball every day for completing the daily quest Your Very Own Sahha Ball which should be available from Rhaal after completing For the Love of the Game.

The ticket-balls are meant to be the primary source of tickets, and the pricing for items in the store are based around earning tickets from participating in ticket-ball parties. Tickets granted via competitive sahha games are meant only to be small, supplementary rewards for if you're playing a few extra rounds for fun, or helping out a friend. The ticket-ball in the ticket store is meant to be an outlet for extra copper tickets if you've already earned everything you want from copper tickets, and is not intended to be the primary method of obtaining ticket-balls.

The first game of the day will net you a ticket-ball assuming you've picked up Your Very Own Sahha Ball, after that its up to you if you'd like to keep playing for fun but we there was no intention to make the event focused around endlessly playing sahha.

If you are really enjoying the game and want more excuses to play though, let us know! We're very excited to be sharing this with you all and hope you enjoy the festivities!

It's just FASHION! Why is the grind so ridiculous?

That didn't remotely explain how you're supposed to get enough copper tickets for just one item.

I'm at work right now and want to share how upsetting this information is. Its too bad.

I know the game developers, artists, etc. put a lot of time and passion into their craft; with whatever time they can afford to devote to the task, of course. I imagine there is also some aspect of monetization integrated into the Summer Festival with Zen Store goods.

The game is self defeating when confronted with an endless grind and astronomically low probability of a reward. Reminds me of escorting the traveler through the Stronghold during the Protector's Jubilee. :(

@asterdahl I would personally appreciate more reasons to partake in the Summer Festival. My understanding is players have a chance within a chance of obtaining a truly "valuable" item.

From what I have read, even if we grind for hours every day of the Summer Festival, obtaining enough mithral tickets to even fantasize about getting a Gond or Disc seems beyond reason. Are there other ways of improving our odds that we may know about?

you can make sailcloth in the summer profession event. that should be in the tooltip as well but it isn't @asterdahl could you correct this tooltip error please?

Thank you for clarifying the economics.

On the one hand it makes it less grindy than suspected. On the other hand, the game could actually be pretty fun if you eliminate all the dead time from out of bounds balls (and those stuns). With the reset time, the game just doesn't flow well. I wish there were more rewards from playing it.

Also, I had to turn my graphics settings ALL the way up to see the ball (not just its vapor trail) when it is in motion. Seems the ball should be the first thing you render, not the last :-)

I could understand gating silver and mithral tickets behind the ticket balls but copper tickets don't really give anything that makes it necessary to gate them behind ticket balls.

yeah, out of bounds kills the fun.
the minigame itself is a lot of fun, but the reset time after oob usually lasts half of the matchtime

just so I am clear, the primary way of getting ticket balls is zen? If I understand correctly, we get 1 free one a day. Judging from the volley parties I've seen; it is going to take a lot of ticket balls to get even the smallest copper rewards

i ran all quests, but the mats for the balls came from the 2 flowerquests
were exactly the mats for 2 additional sahaballs

Shorter characters such as halflings and dwarves seem to be at a real disadvantage in the sahha volley event match, I personally run a human but it seemed that in the 2 matches I ran today the dragonborn and human characters were the only ones getting most of the volleys, just an observation. It's a nice distraction from the normal grind but I don't think I will be doing it very much as the time and effort required for any of the good rewards seems out of reach.

These events have gotten painfully grindy and fun-murdering.

The lord protector/anniversary (which I was happy to see return) was a grind fest of following a merchant around and I had to use Zen to buy new capes for the next mods because I didn't have 10 hours a day to give to RNG and tedium. I was pretty upset at how they changed the event.

It's sad that they went the same direction with this event.

I think someone messed up the math here because with like 15k zen spent on balls in a party, nobody can afford even a half body paint... You need to spend thousands and thousands of zen on the ticket balls to have a minimal chance to get a mount. This is like 1000 times worse than lockbox keys. Actually you need to spend thousands of zen just to get one of the fashion items...

I want my zen back. @asterdahl

After having made around 1100 volleys, I've ended up with 11 mithral, 110 silver and 138 copper. That's nowhere near good enough for the fashion stuff. There should've been a way to exhange silver tickets for copper and mithral for silver. Meanwhile I've added up 600-700 fireworks. Something is very wrong with the droprate, especially for copper tickets.

The only way to save this event now is to drastically reduce the number of copper tickets required for items, and make the copper tickets a guaranteed drop from the Shaha instance. At the moment the Shaha event instance is pointless to take part in. Out of 6 matches I've recieved 2 copper tickets. Half the goals haven't been counting either so it's not even worth playing the event just for fun. Fix the event please. Preferably before it finishes.

I hate my first sahha match. The only volley I could do is jumping and like blocking the ball. The game is not so fluent too in my opinion. The animation is rather slow and the ball keeps get out of bound. Why not let people get all volley skills from the start? If it is really a 5 vs 5 football and I could pass and shot. The game would be much more fun.
