You're definitely wrong there. There's a lot of people, myself included, who enjoy running ISA. I have literally hundreds of thousands of Omega Marks that I will never spend, even to convert to dil. I'm not alone in this either, I have a bunch of friends who enjoy running it as well. It's fun. Maybe not everyone enjoys it,…
Sure, but trace indicates he's getting echo responses from 10.x.x.x machines after hitting the public internet and even up to just before Cryptic's server. That's not possible as those packets won't route in the public internet.
Something's incredibly wrong with your traceroute. How are you geting 10.x.x.x IPs once you hit the internet? Those aren't publicaly routable once they leave your private network.
Interesting trace route. Either the route is changing rapidly during the trace or there's an intermittent loop in their network. Notice hops 8 & 9, 11 & 12, and 13 & 14 are the same server. Also there is some partial packet loss indicated in the hops that only sometimes respond to the ping requests. For those not familiar…
While that's true, battlezones are mind numblingly boring. The time:reward ratio on them would have to be inordinately high for me to even consider stepping foot in one again.
So, STO is entertainment. Players should be able to do what they have fun with and not be lead around to do what someone else wants them to do. This is going to come across as harsh, but if you're a developer and people would rather play "the same, tired, washed-out one ad nauseum", maybe that says something about the…
Absolutely, it does seem to be a problem with Cogent. I changed my VPN tunnel to one that pops out in the eastern US. Back to the same issue, and it's not touching Comcast's network once it leaves the VPN tunnel: C:\Windows\system32>tracert accounts.crypticstudios.com Tracing route to accounts.crypticstudios.com…
I'm on a VPN right now. The end point happens to be in London and actually on Cogent's network. I'm not having an issue right now getting in, where I was before. The VPN's just routing around the issue. My guess is that it's not Cogent's network itself, but probably some of their peering points where they connect with…
So I went ahead and bought VPN access for a month. I selected a point in the UK to pop out. By chance I'm VPNing directly on Cogent's network. Lag issues are gone. Latency is high, but no issues with the patcher or logging in. My thoughts are it could be something with a particular peering point where the Comcast and…
It's almost certainly something close to their network. They've reported issues with Level 3 around their server. I can't speak for others, but STO is the only thing I have a problem with. Youtube's fine. Skype's fine. AIM, ICQ, Star Citizen, Team Fortress, reddit, steam, gog, origin, Netflix, Amazon Instant - not one…
I've done a little more network testing. It appears pings greater than 16K in size have intermittent issues reaching the account server. Anything smaller than that goes through fine, so a normal ping won't show it. Here's a bunch of data for those who can interpret it. You'll notice pings about 16384 bytes fail 50% of the…
Just to follow up on how ping and trace route works so people better understand these. Ping: - Your computer sends an ICMP Echo Request to the destination. - Destination sends an ICMP Echo Reply Trace Route: - Your computer sends an ICMP Echo Request to the destination, but the Time To Live (TTL) Field is set to 1, so the…
There's nothing wrong with the server just before the patch server (hop 22 in your image). That server's just configured not to respond to ping request. If there was a problem there, no further hops would be recorded. That said I still have the incredibly slow log ins / lag issue. I'm going to try the EU proxy if the…
Well there's probably the problem. This IP from my trace route is in Boston, per the link. 17 65 ms 66 ms 66 ms be2302.ccr22.bos01.atlas.cogentco.com [154.54.43.13]
The 21st hop is probably just that server blocking ping requests. It gets past it to the 22nd hop. xboxpatchserver is just another DNS entry for that same IP. It seems to have multiple. Reverse DNS on that IP: PTR 208.95.185.41 xboxpatchserver.crypticstudios.com 60 min PTR 208.95.185.41…
Having the same problem. Here's a trace route. I noticed we're both using comcast and routed through cogentco. First couple IPs are redacted to protect location info: Tracing route to patchserver.crypticstudios.com [208.95.185.41] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 10.0.1.1 2 17 ms 9 ms 9 ms [REDACTED] 3 10 ms 10…
So what you're saying is that the people who were saving up were doing the same amount of work, just at a different time. Participation wasn't down, it was just shifted to the previous year.
I view it quite differently - cutting me off from the activities that keep me around. I've continued to play for 5 years because I play the bits I like and avoid the bits I don't. I feel like I'm a better judge of what I want to do than someone else. You'll notice that while I have multiple thousands of hours in the game,…
Is there something inherently wrong with wanting to the same one over and over? Honestly, if you're going to make players fly all over the sector to just do slight variants on the same thing, what's the difference if they just do the same one over and over again, besides of course wasting time flying around sector space to…
Why am I doing things I don't enjoy? Because that's all that's left. I like STO, I'm just not sure what's left to do other than work on my character. I've got top end equipment, I've gone through all my ships and and done their masteries, etc. I've already done two Delta Alts. A Fed and a Rom. Believe me, repeating the…
PWE has to make money somehow. The refining limits are in place to create a time gated currency that some people are willing to pay to get around. That's the only reason Zen / Dil trade works. If they removed the refining cap, no one would buy dil and F2P would die.
I think it's fine. I've gotten a lot of use out of the C-Store ships I've purchased previously. I think it's a nice gesture to offer a way to continue to use them instead of making them obsolete due to Tier 6. That said, I bought the 4 pack for 500 Zen each. People will complain it's 2500 for the ship and an additional…
The idea is that it's not the same place over and over. The conceit is that it's a different place that you're discovering. I understand STO's implementation is limited. Your comparison to insanity is misguided. We understand how the system functions AND WE LIKE IT. We want it to be more than it is, but we'd prefer not…
