  • Do more damage! DPS solves all the world's problems.
  • A great many captains and their crews will be lost forever, never to be seen again. This will likely be accompanied by much gnashing of teeth and burning of the forums.
  • Cruisers are plenty quick. With high power levels across the board and maybe a little RCS (I think all I've got is what's on the lobi crit console) they're more than quick enough to do what they need to do. Escorts are overkill on maneuverability, at least in PvE. Tbh though, I'm not sure why this is even an issue..…
  • Didn't you know? Q is on our side. If we or someone with us dies, he brings them back again.
  • Yup, you must have completed the original project instead of slotting the new one. I've still got the original one I never bothered finishing from years ago, maybe I'll finish it this year.. maybe not.
  • Frankly, if you're failing in these "advanced" missions.. you're failing. Sure, the shield stripping is a bit over the top.. but it was before DR too. When fighting borg, expect to have your shields stripped repeatedly. This is no reason to fail the mission though, as aside from the occasional high yield torpedo (that can…
  • Keep in mind that if these weapons are particle based, they still should't suffer from damage dropoff (let alone at any range as low as 10km). There's nothing to slow a particle's velocity in the vacuum of space. They'll just keep going forever until they finally hit something, and shouldn't lose energy in route.
  • The inverse square law is what the 2nd post is thinking of, or so it seems. However, this doesn't really apply to directed energy weapons. The inverse square law deals with a spherical wave front radiating from a point source, as the "sphere" gets bigger, the same amount of energy is spread over an increasingly large area.…
  • SS was incredibly powerful in PvP, but only moderately so in PvE. In all but completely single target cases you're better served by FAW, mainly because SS does so much single target damage that much of it is wasted when the ship blows up halfway through your first volley. FAW on the other hand tends to distribute the…
  • While there were generally certain classes with one or two abilities that made them a bit of a challenge (for some classes), it was extremely rare to see someone that flat out just beat everything. The classes had a bit of a rock/paper/scissors thing going on between them, and that made things all the more interesting…
  • I don't know if I'd take it quite that far. WoW was one of the best I've played, though PvP still wasn't really my thing. There, provided you were equally geared anyone could reasonably expect to kill anyone else. Some classes had advantages over other classes, occasionally one class or other would gain a particularly…
  • Frankly, in the time it would take you to say "Activate Emergency Power to Weapons Three" or something similar.. I could probably have pressed the buttons to activate a half dozen abilities. While "neat", it's not really something that would be particularly playable.. even if it worked properly. Even if you shortened it to…
  • Its not just surgical strikes. Even before that was around people were getting blown away in an instant. A BO/RF vaper or even a regular old FAW cruiser could kill someone quite quickly. When you're doing 50k+ dps against NPC's (or more like 100k or higher, as in PvP the fight is over in seconds) and turn that against a…
  • Tacticals, no matter what ship you're using.
  • Well, cruisers were what I was mainly thinking of too. They tend to be the ones that suffer most from lacking particular stations. Looking at it the other way (having too many of a particular station), escorts like the defiant that have a useless ensign tac station could put it to use as something else. I don't know if…
  • Been a couple days actually, just happens to be about the same time :) Yeah, that'd be the other way to go about it. It limits it a bit more, but would still give a bit of extra flexibility and utility to those slots. It's interesting that not two days after I posted this they announced that they were reworking the…
  • Hmm. Nobody find the idea interesting, or just nobody able to come up with any potential issues?
  • That certainly explains some of the bumps in the road with the upgrade system, as well as some of its stranger quirks. Good to hear the system is being upgraded though. Would love to see more posts like this, it very clearly explained a current issue, why it is an issue, what is being done to fix it, what we can expect to…
  • If I had to guess, it's because weapons can only be used for killing.. and that's not what Star Trek is about. Star Trek is about having intimate relations with green space women. If those D's came on an Orion female boff.. then you'd be rolling in the EC by now.
  • Not sure what the answer is, but to be honest.. those consoles aren't worth using. Spire tacticals, universals with CrtH/CrtD, and a handful of other universals like the plasmonic leech are best by a long shot. The set bonuses are on those command consoles is pretty good, but none of the consoles are individually nearly as…
  • Um.. Aux2batt and drakes aren't mutually exclusive. In fact, they're both best when used together. Aux2batt reduces the cooldowns of EPtW/EPtS so that you can keep both up 100% of the time.
  • I'd fly that Odyssey.. maybe. The seating isn't terribly different from what we've already got, it's still 4/4, and I rather doubt they'll give us universal slots.. it'd be kinda pointless as they'd just get used as tactical slots. Still, five tac console cruiser with access to OSS would be worth looking at.
  • Fleet shields are mainly used in PvP, in PvE most use something else for the bonus instead. The romulan engines are almost universally used by most because of the buff to the attack patterns skill. That makes alpha/beta/omega that much better. The deflector/shields are generally used for a two set (borg 2 set, nukara 2…
  • Oh god, whatever you do don't drop your Fleet AMP core. Noticed some people are recommending swapping that out for the bloody Kobali one. Make them pry that AMP core out of your cold, dead fingers. Seriously, the damage bonus really is significant if you're running with four subsystems over 75 (any decent ship outta have…
  • Most often these things are just display errors. The prediction always says ???? x4, as that just means it's going to have four mods but it can't predict which mods it'll gain. It'll have the three it currently has plus one more random one. The "lower" damage is likely because it's not taking into account your skills…
  • Well, when ya tinker with something and fail to improve it.. chances are you probably broke it right? In other words, don't fix what ain't broke! Really though, this is almost certainly a display error.
  • This 100%. Anyone that says otherwise doesn't really know what they're doing, at least when it comes to maximizing damage. Personally I use Nukara two set and romulan engines, or borg two set and romulan engines if I want a bit more survivability. Kobali would be useful for a full on tank, but those shouldn't really exist…
  • Communication isn't really necessary though. There tends to be a lot more communication prior to a private queue, but even then it's not much. Mainly it's simply choosing whether you're doing a 3/2 split, then calling out when you're going to TF/IF so everyone knows the order. Tbh, most Khitomer groups I've done with the…
  • Not quite why we don't pug. We generally want aggro for reciprocity, and for the most part there's little to nothing that presents any real danger to a decent ship in advanced. I generally park my cruiser as close as I can get to the gates in Khitomer and still be just behind them to flank. Kinda park right inside them.…
  • Huh? Most of the ships in the game, at least up to level 49 ARE canon. There are quite a few escort type ships in Star Trek. That said, the Defiant was the first to be specifically designed for warfare - or so they say in the shows. I don't really buy that BS though, pretty much all of the ships are designed for combat -…
