Kobali set vs Assimilated Borg vs Fleet.

duncanaelduncanael Member Posts: 19 Arc User
Hello,

I have a Baratan Command Warbird, and was thinking to change some kobali pieces for 2 o 3 pieces (mostly 2) of the following:

-Assimilated borg.
-Fleet

Surely it will be the engine and shield or singularity.

What do you suggest, it is a good change or should i stay with full Kobali...or do you suggest another set?

Thanks in advance.

Assimilated deflector+engine, Elite fleet warpcore+resilient shields.

And you got more damage and more tankiness in one go.

Have they fixed the issue with fleet upgrade shields yet then, coz last time I tried them they still were rubbish compared to the whole borg set.

I still use the entire 3-piece Borg set, and it still does wonders for my Escorts. And that tractor beam has proven itself to be so useful more times than I can remember, especially for my all-cannon builds. I still highly-suggest it. But the full 4-piece Kobali set is great for both Escorts and Cruisers. If you have the entire Kobali set, I suggest using it. It really does make a big difference.
I completed a 2-man CSE, ISE, and KASE, Optionals included. And I soloed Winter Invasion.

    Borga, Borga, Borga.

Been running it for years. Haven't found a set that compares to my liking.

I've gotten all the reward ship freebie sets... they all eventually wind up in the dustbin, just always a bit wrong in some way.

    For PvE I use;
Nukara shield and deflector = +2.5% weapons damage
Rom Engines = +Attack patterns or Jem Engines = +5 weapons
    Elite Fleet Warpcore AMP

    Inhibiting 2nd deflector (when available)

    Leetch

If the fleet gear (Def/sh/eng/wc) gave set bonuses I'd use them all the time.
    As it is..
The Fleet shields are good all around, more so for pvp I'd say.
Fleet Deflector is ok, gives a Boff cooldown reduction.
Fleet Engines I haven't tried much myself. I have an elite, just haven't found it useful.

2 or 3 pieces of the Borg set is good all around.

The Kobali set is for full out tanking. Not super useful for pve.

I like the kobali set for the set bonus that heals hull points.

Currently i'm using besides the kobali set, the Romulan Hyper plasma weapon set 3-pieces (beam, torp and console)

I want soemthing that brings more tanking power and if i can more dps. (currently i finish 1st or 2nd in CCE Advance)

This 100%. Anyone that says otherwise doesn't really know what they're doing, at least when it comes to maximizing damage. Personally I use Nukara two set and romulan engines, or borg two set and romulan engines if I want a bit more survivability. Kobali would be useful for a full on tank, but those shouldn't really exist under most circumstances. Using it won't kill your damage, but it's too defensive to be ideal. That added defense just isn't needed when you can park in point blank range of a gateway on advanced wity an anchored trait leading to negative defense and still be just fine.

    Borg 2pc engine/def
    Dyson shield.
    fleet amp core.

This is on every ship i have. I find it really funny no one uses that dyson shield. I know its got a low cap and not resistant but when i parse... it heals me more than dual EP2S cycled. I get 100k-120k shield healing in borg STFs from it, while borg 2pc heals hull.

Even borg 3pc heals 2/3rd less than it. In pvp its the only thing that can slow a vaper IMO.

I do have most sets, but this is what i have stuck with for a very long time. No other heal comes even close in any parse i have done in any set.

The full Kobali set is indeed awesome. I have yet to actually get killed since I’ve equipped it on my Samsar… and once you get T5 in the specialization for the Samsar you are damned near indestructible. Throw in a few fancy consoles and some CC mechanics (grav well, etc.) and you’re a flying fortress.

DPS wise, however, low… and I mean L-O-W. Per the STO Wiki:
” With Lieutenant Commander Engineering/Command Bridge Officer Slot, Kobali Samsar Cruiser becomes the first Command-ability featured starship as it is released in the period of 5 Year Anniversary Event. Basically, It has 58,000 Hull Hit points and low turn rate, though slightly higher(6.5, rather than typical 6).

It can perform as good Healing or Support role. But With only one Lieutenant Tactical slot, and one Ensign Universal slot, its DPS may be lower than any damage-dealing role builds. However, If It equips with all 8-Beam array, same type of energy weapons, It could inflict sustainable damage. Also, It has slightly higher turn rate, with one RCS Accelerator or Hydrodynamics Compensator, it could be more maneuverable to deal with enemies.

Still, I’ll take more survivability over higher damage output in the long run.

2pc. & 3pc. borg and/or the kobali 2 & 3pc. are great hull tanking sets, made useful in Borg STF's with the ever more powerful tachyon beams draining shields, like water going down your toilet.

Either way, the preference is yours ultimately what you like but, both offer goo quality usage.

Both sets offer up good quality hull & shield healing when using 3pcs. of the set [Assimilated of course only has 3pcs. but, still a quality set none the less]

If you prefer just 2pcs., than find a quality core and/or shield array of your liking or, use the matching shield array if you prefer.

Oh god, whatever you do don't drop your Fleet AMP core. Noticed some people are recommending swapping that out for the bloody Kobali one. Make them pry that AMP core out of your cold, dead fingers. Seriously, the damage bonus really is significant if you're running with four subsystems over 75 (any decent ship outta have all four pretty much maxed out).

Let me put it this way - the AMP core is so important to most builds that dps peeps don't take the Obelisk core that'd give them a 10% antiproton damage boost. They sacrifice the only antiproton set bonus in the game in favor of that core. Dropping it for the Kobali one.. is just silly. You may as well go back to your stock white mk x.

The general rule of thumb (for me at least) is to use a Deflector & Impulse combination (of the same type) with a Fleet Core and Fleet [Resilient] Shields. I fly Cruisers, and have found the Borg Set, Nukara Set, and Adapted MACO Set (Deflectors and Impulse of each only) to fulfill any and all needs.

The 2-3 piece Kobali and Borg Space Sets are good routes either way.

Love the very high repairs and constant state of healing from the Kobali 2 piece. The 3 piece has that emergency repair.

Borg 2 piece (ENG & Deflector) has long been a popular choice. Borg 3 piece is great due to the combination of the 2 and 3 piece bonuses.

Fleet Deflector, Shield, Engines? Except for the Elite Fleet Shields, the Deflectors and Engines are absolute TRASH. They never were ideal for anything. The worst of the lot are the Elite Fleet Deflectors with the horrible stats.

Fleet shields are mainly used in PvP, in PvE most use something else for the bonus instead. The romulan engines are almost universally used by most because of the buff to the attack patterns skill. That makes alpha/beta/omega that much better. The deflector/shields are generally used for a two set (borg 2 set, nukara 2 set) or sometimes people use the CC deflector and shields of their choice, forgoing the 2 set entirely. The cc deflector has accuracy bonuses and energy weapon skill bonuses.

I am using Borg engines with Nukara deflector. I have the three piece Borg set, but I don't really see anything about the Borg deflector that makes me want to swap out the Nukara one (for escort with torpedo).

Been gearing up a RomTac alt in a Scimitar and I have to admit that I've been...taking my time replacing the Zombie set on this captain.

I know I should slot the Nuk 2 pc + Rom Eng combo and an AMP core like my other captains but that Nanite Screen emergency heal is just fantastic when I'm in a Borg STF or Crystal (which are my main STF's anyways). The extra dmg soak buys me enough time to fire off Fleet Support and Go Down Fighting to make it almost effortless before I throw on my other heals which have come off of CD again. Plus the individual bonuses on the pieces complement the personal/starship traits I have slotted as well as power levels to toughen up the weaker aspects of the Scimi, especially with all the aggro she gets even without having Crit consoles at the moment.
