  • Cryptic is going to announce something big on Star Trek Day(Sep 8th) about the next story update(likely who the Terran Emperor is based on past comments), as well as the exact details about the upcoming event, and lockbox
  • New Event Ship: Terran Somerville Scout Ship
  • Inspired by the ISS Reskava, Mirror Kuumaarke's ship
  • Terran materials from this ship can be used on the normal/fleet Somerville
  • Hernandez class(Fleet Somerville) is named after the original artist who made the Somerville for IDW, Angel Hernandez
  • Scout Ships will be renamed Scout Vessels because its more "official" sounding
  • Has raider flanking
  • Trait: Devious Rerouting. Gives +Max HP from EPG when Shields are low
  • Console: Iconic Deflector Inversion. +28.5% electrical damage and Starship shield regeneration. Sacrifice shields for EPG, then Electrical Dmg PBAoE
  • Console inspired by the Kuumaarke ground set, visuals not included
  • Thomas wants to do a T6 Pioneer. Jeremy says when they do it is Thomas' call
  • Thomas wants to do the "dragon ship" from LD, but theres lot of higher priority stuff. He wants to embellish it more, when converting it from the LD art style, adding more gilding, boarders, trim, and figureheads, etc.
  • The Vulcan ship from LD went well, didn't need a round 2 of talks with the LD staff when making it. Cerritos wasn't bad either. Parliament took a few rounds of notes from the LD staff, but went easier then Thomas expected
  • Kael wants a Lower Decks style vanity shield. Thomas suggested doing something like a sky-file, or an item that adds a screen post processing effect, to make the game look Lower Decks-like for people that wanted it.
  • Thomas asked Paramount if Cryptic could use ship designs from other Star Trek games, so long as they rebuild the assets themselves, and Paramount said yes. Hinted he's already working on one
  • New lockbox ship: The Courier Pilot Raider
  • Nicknamed the Cosmo for the courier piloting it in DSC S3 EP 1
  • Ship has a unique engine trail
  • Cryptic had the art department model from CBS, the basic model made by the art team thats sent off to the CGI people to add extra details/geo, and built off of that that by comparing it to what was seen on screen
  • Container pods move/spin while moving/turning. Ships only have one layer of animation, so the cargo pods just spin back and forth regardless of what direction you're going. Ship has a very low bank angle to not add additional wonkiness to the spin, and cut down confusion when you're flying it
  • Has the Vesta pattern on the ship material, so you can tint the whole ship whatever color you want
  • Trait: Special Delivery. If you activate pilot maneuvers, or pilot BOFF abilities, you drop mines, and gives you a 20% cooldown on pilot BOFF abilities
  • Mines from this trait can be teleported with relocate mines
  • Console: Debris Screen. +Physical and Kinetic Damage Resistance Rating. +Plasma Damage with Energy Weapons. Front Phys/Kinetic Immune. +Speed/Turn. Ram Kinetic Dmg
  • Ship was only seen flying through a debris field, so that was all the inspiration they had to go on. Jeremy decided to dig into that fiction, and went with the idea that these ships were equipped with special gear to fly through crowded space more safely/effectively
  • Ship comes with Viridian weapons by default
  • Thomas doesn't think the lockbox has new space weapons, only new ground weapons
  • New Experimental Weapon: Rotor Rockets. Shoot 5 rockets, each rocket does kinetic damage. Rockets ignore shields. Rockets shoot out of the cargo pods in a clockwise motion, while the pods are spinning
  • Jeremy has a pilot power update, similar to the Intel one, on his list of things he wants to accomplish. No timeline for it.
  • Animations from pilot passive trait that had your ship "juke" when you got missed were disabled because they were built with the old animation system, and thus overrode every other animation. Need time for Weston to rebuild them in the new system
  • No way to turn off the spin on the Courier ship due to the way the animation/layering system works, and how its built into the ship costume
  • Things like fire effects from the ship damage effects will create circles in space as the cargo pods spin. Enemy beams will track the cargo pods while they spin because there are hit nodes on the containers
  • Jeremy jokes hes glad Cryptic stopped trying to explain how all these ships made it back because he had to write all the lore blogs for them
  • Thomas had an idea to explain why the 32c ships are in the game. Lobi consortium found a ship almanac from the future that had images/designs of the ships, but didn't have the exact tech specs. This is why the 32c ships aren't as powerful they would be if they were from the 32c.

This got me going bananas, because I played a lot of older Trek games. Mostly PC though. None of the Playstation exclusives.
But what got my attention was the WORDING Thomas used. He said that a ship would be "Invading" STO.
Kinda odd wording... unless you remember that there was a game called Star Trek Invasion. Which means... it might be a ship from that game. There are two notable craft from that game, the Valkyrie fighter... and the USS Typhon. And the Typhon actually has a gimmick that can be made into a console in STO. Fortress Mode. Basically the ship turtles up and becomes a hard to damage brick. Combine that with Valkyrie Fighter pets... would make a good addition to STO.

And this wouldn't be limited to just Fed ships either. Old games have a LOT of non Fed ships as well, like the Cardassian Hutet, Klingon Fek'lhr... Even the Romulan Winged Defender.

Watching the stream from last night at the moment.
Did my ears deceive me and did the devs just say that ships from other games are a possibility as long as they completely rebuild the design?

... got to resist the urge to post a request for a ship from another game (at least for now).
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

I...don't see how that's legal - the designs in those games belong to the one who created them; or at least, to the studio that created the game including them - they may have had a contract that anything created for the game belongs to them - but that still doesn't mean Paramount is allowed to give permission in their stead just because those models were created for their IP. If that were the case, getting permission from Mark Rademaker for the Vesta in STO wouldn't have been necessary, as they could have gone straight to CBS or Paramount (whichever one at the time held book licensing rights).

We can dream, but you know saucers sell. I wish this meant we’d get more alien ships—but I am willing to settle for a FASA Dreadnaught.😅

Cool. So when do I get to fly a Tactical fusion cube from ST Armada 2? :p

@baddmoonrizin can you merge this topic with the one for this week's Ten Forward? No point in two topics about same thing.

Don't forget the Romulan C5 Raptor from Star Trek Armada series of games also
    https://memory-beta.fandom.com/wiki/Raptor_class_(Romulan

Also here is a list of Ships From Armada series of games also mainly Armada 2
    https://memory-beta.fandom.com/wiki/Armada_II

Some of the ships from Armada was also in Starfleet Command III also. So the Possibilities are endless me personally would love to See the C5 raptor Class in STO and a redo or the Deleth Light Battlecruiser to have more D'deridex ship options naturally smaller to fit the ship itself.

They already have something visually similar to the Raptor from Armada though it uses a variant of the oval wing instead of the single-level wing, though the c-store could use a few new Romulan ships even then. A few other ships already in the game strongly resemble others from other games and whatnot too.

I suspect that permission to use ships from other games has a lot of limitations due to IP issues, though throwing it open into a sort of beta-canon pool could possibly benefit active games agreeing to it. Anything Kelvin should not be a problem since Paramount Pictures and CBS are all Viacom again, but the rest is probably hit or miss.

FASA ships are a good possibility since their legal problems (like the stigma from the Harmony Gold lawsuit) allowed Paramount to inject some iffy language into their license agreement for the FASA Star Trek game that gave them full joint rights to the ships, gear, and (iirc) even some of the major plot points in the timeline. Paramount seemed to be reluctant to test whether the language would stand up in court if FASA put up a fight however, so it is not a sure thing.

I hope they at least bring in the canonized Orion Wanderer (it was the only non-tech-manual third-party ship to appear in wireframe form in aired Trek) and some of the other sleek Orion ships from that game, I get so tired of Harrad Sar's ugly barge being the base for Orion ships in STO.

I have a number of characters in STO that are recreations of FASA and DS9 tabletop RPGs, for instance one group of which started out as a time-and-timeline displaced (originally FASA to Last Unicorn's DS9) Romulan squadron (or rather its survivors) consisting of a V30 Winged Defender, a T10 Bright One destroyer, and a custom sensor-warfare scout (I called it a SX17, it was supposed to be an escort for the V30 line that was deemed too expensive for mass production). While the Faeht is a good substitute for the custom ship it would be nice to have an actual V30 (right now I am using a Flambard-class though the Haakona is probably closer visually) and T10 (which I am using a Mogai to represent at the moment) if they ever make them available in STO.

Unfortunately, Franz Joseph Designs ships are not too likely since the feud with Roddenberry was never resolved as far as I know of so the original Saladin, Hermies, Ptolemy, and Federation (dreadnaught) classes are probably off the table unless there has been some kind of reconciliation between the companies recently. Also, in the case of the Hermies CBS already has its own version so they probably still cannot touch the FJD ships as anything but wireframes on consoles in the background.

That lockbox ship reminds me of the gunstar from the last star fighter, the front bit, anyhow.

IF they can use ships from other games, they could use the Saladin and Mayflower, and maybe the Armstrong from Star Trek Fleet Command, they kelvin ships, not tos. So it IS doable.

There was a time where one could not say Cardassian and add the word Hutet in the same sentence.
Expect that ship to be high on the list of requested vessels.

And for the federation from the same game: Achilles_class
Personally never like the looks, but it was very effective.

Star Trek Fleet Command is a current game. He specifically said OLDER games.

Besides the aforementioned fusion cube, another interesting thing to have would be the construction ship equipped with a Genesis device mod.

Invincible, with a pod that wipes everything off the map when it is destroyed while the ship itself remains and can build a new one.

Well, that seems pointless - if it wipes everything off the map, it doesn't need to survive to build a new one.

There is no Warbird in STO that I know of that even comes close to looking a Raptor Class there are some single winged designs don't get me wrong but none that I see of and i nearly got them all. Still would be nice to have theme in the game and CBS already said yes, they could use past game designs if the Cryptic staff rebuilt theme using there in game assists so yeah there is a large chance of that as for FASA that may never happen as a lot of FASA isn't official Lore anymore and Franz Joseph designs either.

There is one oddball FASA design that has made its way into multiple games and even comic books. The Winged Defender. It was in Armada 2, it was in Legacy... that thing gets around.

I don't either. But... the fact we have potential access to any designs from older video games... THAT is a game changer in itself. Pretty much everything from the Armada games has a gimmick that can be turned into a console, we got designs from the Starfleet Command games, Dominion Wars... there's a LOT of potential for all kinds of things. Hell... even Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force could bring in things from The Forge that were seen to add to the Delta Quadrant!

Cryptic is going to announce something big on Star Trek Day(Sep 8th) about the next story update(likely who the Terran Emperor is based on past comments), as well as the exact details about the upcoming event, and lockbox
Interesting they posted the stuff about the elite bridge officer training but nothing about whatever this big announcement is. I wonder if there is going to be some kind of postponement on that

Yeah, people have been talking about it in game a TON (which is where I just heard it). Truth be told, I am sorta sad that he is going to be the Emperor, despite liking him actually (even his character in Star Trek a bit too). There were so many others who could have been chosen instead, though I think that the one and only MORN would have been one of the best choices lol. But I bet the Dev's wouldn't like that because you never heard him talk (despite him being referred to as a chatterbox in DS9), and the Emperor just has to talk I am sure. And as good ol' Will doesn't have much going on these days, he is a shoe in and safe bet (even money wise) for the role. But still... how could you go wrong with Morn lol?! 😋

    Peace...
