I am a big Wil Wheaton fan. But mirror Wesley was a real common guess for Emperor. Kael also misdirected a few weeks ago saying Cryptic hasn’t reached out to him recently. Still, it’s none too surprising. Good news, I guess. Maybe they can shoehorn the Watcher/Traveler Wesley into some other content too. Having him randomly in Winter Wonderland for instance could be fun.

Interesting they posted the stuff about the elite bridge officer training but nothing about whatever this big announcement is. I wonder if there is going to be some kind of postponement on that

Nope. They made a post on Twitter.
    The Emperor... has been revealed.

    Dear god Q.

Given that most important mirror characters are annoying even if their prime counterparts are not, my captains might have to talk to their science officers and engineers.
Order them to reduce sensitivity to anyon particle traces before we encounter Mirror Wesley, or the entire sensor array might just blow up.

I hate when trailers REVEAL things, I'd rather they'd have the emperor about to remove his helmet, but cut from there.

In my opinion his face sculpt does not look like Mirror Wesley Crusher. I think a better job could have been done.

Do we even know what Mirror Wesley looks like in canon? Because I'm pretty sure they just made him look like himself.

I'm pretty sure there was nothing in canon what any of the mirror universe versions of the TNG cast looked like (apart from Worf thanks to him being a DS9 character as well).

Yeah, to me that just looks more or less what Will Wheaton looks now.

It doesn't really bother me if he looks like Will Wheaton and not "evil". He SOUNDED evil, which sounded great for the character. And... I wonder if this had been planned for some time, long before the Mirror Arc. There was talk of the Emperor having "godlike powers" long ago. Think some old Duty Officer assignments we got in an older mirror lockbox aluded to such. At the time they were pretty much throwaway lines probably to highlight that the Emperor had great power in the Mirror Universe. But if Mirror Wesley was picked up by the Mirror Travelers... that would explain his power.

Where did you see Wesley. I watched that video twice at half speed. I am pretty sure Wesley wasn’t in it.

What do you mean? He's right there! He takes off his helmet at the end of the video.

I'm happy about this... Glad they were able to bring Wil Wheaton into the game. I've loved just about everything he's done, and he seems like the kinda guy who geeks out about things as much as his fans do. I look forward to the episode!

I see it now. That is not the same video I watched this morning. I have no idea what I was watching.

Ok. I must have clicked through to the STO Twitter page and watched the launch video instead of the reveal:

It is a character a lot of people LOVE to hate so well suited for an evil Terran emperor.

This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

The main problem with Wesley is that in the original concept, (where they did a lot more saucer separation and the A and B plots were mostly flipping between the action side focused on the battle section and the 'city in space' aspects of the saucer section), Wesley was the leader of a "youth gang" of often troublesome (but not really "bad") nerds, each with their own specialization.

Roddenberry assumed that there would still be a sort of youth-gang culture in the future because of human nature, but the post-scarcity economy would drain most of the prejudice, poverty and revenge-mentality that often drives today's gangs to criminal activity and thus it would take a more benevolent form. It was one of a number of things the writers had a problem integrating into the scripts without it seeming hokey and ended up having to drop to simplify the overcomplicated ragbag of ideas the show was supposed to have.

When they dropped most of the "city stuff" part of the concept to focus more on the "single big cruiser" stuff they didn't need the youth gang to annoy Picard and rolled them all up into Wesely in the rewrites, so he ended up the even more annoying (mostly to the viewers this time) know-it-all seen in the show as aired.

Problem with Wesley was that he was very much a self-insert of one Eugene Wesley Roddenberry Senior (and he wasn't shy about that either). Granted this issue really lasted only for Season 1 and possibly season 2. In those seasons he more than just a prodigy he was perfect. By Season 3 Wesley was allowed to be wrong and have faults which improved his character immensely turning Wesley from an annoying self-insert into a character who while often was the smartest person in the room still could make mistakes and be stupid if the situation called for it.

EDIT: Season 1 Wesley made you question why Starfleet Academy existed in the first place, while season 3 onward explained why it did exist, since Wesley while smart was still a kid and at times made mistakes due his lack of life experience.

I would say the TNG episode "The First Duty" is one of the best displays of the Wesley Crusher as character as in that episode yes Wesley made a mistake (a big one that cost a fellow cadet his life in fact) but is smart enough to understand the seriousness of the situation and what is the right thing to do.

Well after playing the new episode last night, Emperor Wesley Crusher does look Wil Wheaton. Just in the trailer he did not look like what he is in-game for some reason.

It's the Jawline, Will Wheaton has a squarer Jawline than Terran Wesley Crusher.
