If i have to choice between creators not responding bcause they bugfixing, or creators responding but not bugfixing, i go w the first.. and if they havent found the issue yet, what really is there to say..

"We working" will prolly just lead to another avalanche of questions.. so i get it.. lets give them the time and space to fix it.. they let us know when they have something informative to say..

    Is Eve Online any good?

Serious question; I watched a whole youtube ad on it yesterday and it looked good but I know literally nothing about it.

I'm very fond of STO and a huge ST fan but it's not been a great gaming experience lately. I start to think I need to diversify.

If you really want to know, you should post on the EVE forums or reddit. They will be able to answer your questions better than we will.

It's back up if you use ARC launcher. But if you try to use Epic, it crashes.

do you like mining and spreadsheets? if so then yes. if not then it may not the game for you.

if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

More troubling are their attempts at hypermonetizing literally everything. The fact they don't have money to even spend on proper music - look at the new Synth TFO, it's a badly done MIDI rendition of off-copyright music (Hosts' Mars Bringer of War). Where the money is going no one knows, but it's not on content and it's not on programming.
I don't see STO remotely this way. But I've played other games too, where the monetization is actually that bad. Anything by Rockstar is a constant money-grab, for example. EA is notorious for locking everything behind a paywall and releasing hot garbage.

STO is not even close to that level.

Where the money is going no one knows, but it's not on content and it's not on programming.
Lets see. What have they spent the money on in the last two years? There's
    • The RTFO system. Which helped reinvigorate TFOs by making it easier to start them, and more rewarding to play them.
    • The event system revamp. Which negated the hassle of having to slot up event projects, and manually fill in tokens, not only making the whole process automatic, but also making it account wide so you didn't have to do it on every single character. This udpate also merged all the event reward stores into one, making it easier to find and reclaim event rewards.
    • The patrol system revamp. Targeted to making it easier to find, and get into patrols. EXP changes in the patrols makes leveling starship masteries much faster, reducing grind.
    • Personal endeavors. Which direct people to play little used battlezones or TFOs, bringing life back into a lot of these old areas, as well as giving out lots of dil, EC, R&D mats, and spec points, as well as stacking account wide bonus perks
    • The T6 reputation update. Which simplified the sponsorship program by making the whole process automatic, and gave players access to free captain retrain tokens, fleet ship modules, more powerful traits, and account wide reputation store discounts.
    • The Scaling T6 ship update. Which made T6 ships more valuable since you can now use them from game start to end.
    • Bringing down the walls between Romulan and allied faction ships, giving everyone a much wider array of ships to chose from
    • Numerous QoL updates like the "fill all" button for rep projects, new filters and search bars for the C-Store and inventory, admiralty cards being made auto claimable, inventory items being made to stack up to 9999, a salvage all button, moving all the lower tier ships from the C-Store into the ship selector so they are much cheaper to buy, among others

And all of this on top of not only a large scale revamp of all the Klingon faction missions, uniforms, ships, face/skin/hair textures, targs, Qo'nos map, but also the typical release of new missions, TFOs, and ships, we normally got.

But yeah, no, definitely not spending that money on content or programming. That totally not why we have seen so many more system updates, and so much more content, there last two years. /sarcasm.

THATS interesting. I wonder if the ARC launcher can work around the directX error yesterdays patch created.

    Still down.

    Yep server crashed again.
  • chipg7chipg7 Member Posts: 1,568 Arc User
I was in-game, and we got a 10 minute warning for "emergency maintenance." So login is probably blocked leading into the maintenance.

Some communication from the team would be really great about now... I'm a big supporter of the game, I love it, I'll pretty much always defend it. But I'm getting annoyed by zero official communication here.

Got no notification but got kicked out on a character change about 2 minutes before the hour.

Their communications would be horrifyingly bad today, except I don't think they are actually trying to communicate at all.

10m warning on server being brought down for maint. I guess that's better than crashing without warning like it did earlier. I even managed to get the darn TFO done.

Something is definitely all kinds of screwed up with the server though. Today may just be a giant write-off.

Well as long as all my chars are still there when it's done, I'm fine with it.

Cue the Cryptic Defense Force....they'll be here shortly to explain why it is your fault.

STO isn't the only game suffering from this right now. Heck, games aren't even the only industry suffering from bad or delayed content.

Still not happy about it, but such is pandemic normal.

No it's not difficult at all. Our devs where I work saw zero work interruptions. It's poor management if they are using that excuse.

Server down again, barely managed to finish the TFO which also bugged out but the bugged transport was visible and managed to get destroyed by enemy NPCs.

I am pleased to discover disabling some visual options, possibly lens flare and bloom, took away the full screen flashing on enemies blowing up. I hope this holds true on borg maps too.

    Welcome to Epic, I guess.

Recently returned, was actually having a good time.. until the update.

Guess I will keep perusing games.. ironically, the unexpected downtime was just long enough to download SWTOR. 10 minute warning came up, and it finished. Coincidence?

That would hold true, if the only employees they had were developers and QA.

I was just in game, in the queue even, when the 10 minute warning came up. Actually managed to finish the queue, but I wound up with an AFK penalty. I never stopped firing on baddies the entire time in the mish and I get an AFK? We even managed to rescue 48 of the 50 transports, 2 got stuck and had to die to progress. I don't know what else the game expects of players, but apparently *I* don't hit that metric.

I think I'm done with this event. Not a fun queue, and having to run it for 14 days would have been pushing it, but 20 out of 30? Nah, not worth it. For those that continue, I hope you have fun.

Haha, maybe not then! I've had enough spreadsheets at work in my life.

I like to fly my starship around and look at the pwetty things, maybe shoot the odd baddie.

STO, there are far more positives than negatives in my experience, but lately I haven't played much else and that always magnifies the negatives. Why I think it's a good idea to try something similar, but perhaps I should just rummage through my Steam library too.

I hope the devs can wrestle it back up soon!

It's not what you think. It was explained there are 'assets' they were not allowed to take out of the office, so they've had to come-up with work arounds (Using Red-Shirt as test server etc). There is clear evidence that it's affecting productivity (amongst many companies), and blaming 'bad management' is a tad harsh. If, for an example, a Cryptic employee had off-site access to certain parts of the game/database/code and there was a breach that took the game down, or allowed unauthorised access to accounts and assets that personally affected you, you'd be painting the town blue with anger for them being 'careless'. There's no bad management here, just caution.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

Was just changing alts, when the server go dark again...
Still, managed to do today event progress, hope it will be remembered.

Some bugs are understandable with so much change in mechanics (experimental ship upgrades with trait solts assigned to ships, and additional slots for gear on ships), and Epic Stroe compatibility, but I would like it more, if there would be some info from devs, what actually happened and what they doing about it...

This "mystery" is not the thrilling kind for me :p

Saw the 10 minute warning come up just as the last transport was sitting waiting to die. The maintenance warning highlighted just how stupidly long you have to wait from the announce that all transports are gone to the end of the tfo because there was the minute til offline warning just shortly after I left.

I'm tempted to group both my accounts and have one /follow the other for this TFO, normally I'd never do so for group content but given how bad this TFO is I don't see anyone really caring.

Another line of misinformation. Developers don't or shouldn't interact with the customer. PM's and BA's do that. Management should at least put out a "We are broken!" notification at a minimum.
