Still, it is true that if a Dev wants a particular ship in-game, it happens.

And of course the Nova doesn't sell well in-game; its a T5 ship in a game dominated by T6 ships and has a model as old as the game itself!

There is a t5 Nova? I've only really noticed the t2 and its c-store refit.... I do hope you get your ship Reyan, you've been asking for a long time, and they've done what ever they wanted/thought would make them more money instead....

By the by, unlike every other lockbox/promo ship the Inquiry is currently bound to character and cannot be sold on the exchange. Whether this is a "bug" or a "feature" remains to be seen. But considering the Inquiry already broke the policy of 'no normal ships in lockboxes', maybe they are going 'all out' on it with binding too.

Hmm - that's troublesome! Does it mean that I wouldn't be able to pop it in my account bank and give it to another of my characers? I have a box in the bank of one of my Engineer characters, but I'd want the ship for one of my Tactical characters......

The promobox and the inquiry box are "bound to character" so you could not put either of them in the account bank. I was all set to do a trade when they asked for inquiry i grabbed it, tried to trade it and found it to be character bound. I hope they fix this soon, i really have no desire for this... at least its not on a science toon.... or a klingon(would i have even been able to pick it?)

I'm confused on the customisation - my character has a Fleet T6 Battlecruiser, and the official post by Cryptic states that the ship should have the Inquiry Class parts in its customisation. Or am I misunderstanding it, and instead I must ALSO own the Inquiry Class (by sheer rotten luck aka gambling) for this to even be possible in the first place.

I wouldn't be so certain that Steam players play a lot of different games all the time constantly. You might be more typical than you expect. I also own many games on Steam, but STO is one of the few titles I return back to regularly.
I am not sure many players can "maintain" the habit of multiple MMOs, and I suspect that those that play MMOs often focus on one at a time. Because MMOs - not just STO - are more and more designed to provide you incentive to play often, ideally daily, hopefully checking out the cash shop or you never dropping your subscription, or both.

It used to be gamers were just kids - mostly because games are new and adult people rarely have time to pick up new hobbies. But a lot of these kids have grown up and still play. But... they now have a 8 hour work day and a 5 day work week. Many of them have family. They just don't have as much time as they had in their glory days.

You see this affecting game design as well - most games seem to be designed you can play the typical mission/scenario in less than an hour and win on the first try (or there is at least one difficult setting that would allow you to do so). Because people don't have the time anymore to fly the same mission in their TIE Fighter 12 times until they can avoid getting hit more than once by those nasty Escort Shuttles with their rear-facing turret or those Modified Corvettes with 100 % turbolaser coverage at all all angles and intercept or avoid all A-Wing concussion missiles.

Yes, you would need the Inquiry to get its model parts. But you don't need the Inquiry to have access to the Legendary ship matierals, they are added regardless of whether you own the Inquiry or not.

, I suggest it be officially designated as an Alliance ship called the Hobus-class, as it would be a super Nova),

    Ow, bad @jonsills! LOL.

Don't forget we're also tired all the time. Playing games is great and all, but so is pulling the big comfy wool socks over your hooves and go to bed. When we were young and hip we never assumed the day would come where we're just too tired to save the galaxy.

Not true. I don't recall anyone clamoring for the Akira class yet that particuar class has received TWO quality passes.

That's because "clamoring" has nothing to do with it. In game/sales stats do. If Cryptic sees a certain ship selling very well, they will make alternate versions to double dip on those sales. If it's not a popular ship in game, then "clamoring" just doesn't matter.

The fact that they haven't made a T6 Nova is not based on a dev hating it, it is based on the apparent lack of popularity in game metrics (not on the forums).

Though there has been atleast 1 case of a ship not making it into the game based on a dev hating it, a certain klingon ship was despised by a certain dev named after a reptile and its commonly believed that why the ship was never given to klingon characters. (I think the ship actually made it into the foundry but never the full game)

And there is at least one case of a ship making it into the game because a particuar Dev "specifically wanted it".
    eZi7dwq.jpg

True, Reyan, but in this case Thomas did the ship in his spare time and asked to be put in the game, that wasnt Cryptic's intention, and the ship was already made, so why not?. Designers have to like what they are doing (unless ordered), and Thomas like to do ships, but he has his tastes about it, as everyone else, i hate the Yeager, some people like it... so i dont call it favoritism, it's simple a dislike in this case...

Oh, yeah, i'm totally with you.. i wanted the Norway!, but is their game, their rules, besides asking, there is not too much we can do, yeah, we can close our wallets, but without money, the game shuts down, and i dont want that, that's why i buy new c-store releases when i like what i see.. but rarely any promo ship, unles i need lobi..

    Yeah, I get that.

However, I still feel it stinks that the ships they like get put in-game (regardless of how) or get TWO quality passes whilst players can ask for a particuar ship for SIX YEARS and are consistently ignored.

It's a bummer, it took many years for the release of the Vor'Cha, that i was asking from day one when i subscribed after the beta, and buyed on day one of the release, so i do get your frustration... i'll send a few pictues of the Nova to Kael for the next stream.. you know, just to mess with them a little..

Don't forget the Inquiry lists itself as "Legendary Kelvin Timeline Intel Battlecruiser" in its little tooltip description.

Whether this is evidence that it was copy pasted and planned to be put in the C Store(Maybe as a Legendary upgrade to the Arbiter/Avenger like others have suggested) or as a standalon ship can't be told.

It does seem very strange to copy paste a C store ship box for a Promo ship, so I think its more likely it was intended to be a C Store ship originally, as if it was meant to be a promo they probably would have copy pasted a promo ship box.

Still this is a ridiculous TRIBBLE up.

Like I've been saying...less effort for more profit, wouldn't surprise me if they were copying and pasting stuff just to save some time.

Been bad in the past but now it's so blatantly obvious they don't care about a dang thing other than money...ever since Andre came into the picture they've been getting progressively more greedy.

I own this ship, I'm disappointed that I switched back to my legendary Defiant. For being a Promo Ship is has not enough pew and the trait and console are medioca at best. Nothing whats Promo about it I think the C-Store would have been a better place.

Having said that, thank god i only used 4 boxes to get a ship this time around.

The only luck i had was Cryptic f'ing up again. I had 1.3 billion EC on the side for the ship but couldn't buy it thanks to Cryptic making it character bound. So i bought a few boxes and opened those instead. Never thought i would benefit from Cryptic messing up, lol.

I bought the ship for 1.2bil, copied about 70 to Tribble, then sold it for 1.25. They still haven't updated Tribble with the 'bound to character' fix, but after they do I will be doing my normal thing of mailing these out for folks to try. Whenever that happens I'll post a thread.

Made a LEGO moc of the Inquiry-Class in Lego Digital Designer and modified the finishings in LEGO Studio.
Still looks like a piece of junk, though, no matter what way it's made.

I think the main issue is that supposed Deflector. Most of the rest of the ship looks fine, and lines up with the traditional Federation design style. But that Deflector looks more like the front grill of a car than a deflector dish.

If we don't think of the Avenger line, she probably evolved from the Intrepid due to the general layout and more flattened profile.

To be honest the Avenger/Arbiter line was/is suppose evolve from this ship class according to Cryptic lore so it's still possible that this class was at least partly base on the Intrepid, though it look more like enlarged and stretched out Nova then an Intrepid to me.

That scene bugs me. The ships where not cloaked. You serious expect me to believe NO Romulan sensor officer was watching his station?

Also, that's more freaking ships than in the Dominion war!

That grill looks like it was some sort of Starfleet ship imitation, for some kind of ruse but it lacked proper technology to make a SF brand deflector dish.

No amount of technobabble can save this, it just looks like a placeholder. Lower Decks gives us great starships, fitting their era.

Although I hate the Inquiry's deflector design my personal headcanon is that it was designed like that deliberately - that whoever designed it had the Galaxy-class USS Odyssey (which was, obviously, destroyed via a Jem'Hadar attack ship ramming her main deflector) in mind and decided to give the main deflector on the Inquiry class, a ship with some emphasis on combat, some limited protection against that sort of attack. Basically, that they didn't want a repeat of this:

It's an explanation at least, though I think the Inquiry's size speaks against that. It's not a Galaxy, so everything Bugship sized and up would just be a massive collision, grill or not. And everything smaller is supposed to be 'deflected' anyway. I like your solution, but somehow I doubt that this was the intention :D
