Next year's story arc, its more then just a story arc, its going to change the face of the game.... I'm not going to play 100 questions with you on what is going to change, but we are changing something significant in the game as a result of the arc we are telling and how it will... I mean its not like hey we are on Nintendo now kind of changing the game kind of thing or now you have bridge commander gameplay, but there is a significant change to the game, and I think we are hoping to make a group of players that have been unhappy, happy.
Soooooo there's some things you should know about that offhand comment Al dropped that's been blowing up the net:
1) He was talking about a story he's writing, not a mechanic.
2) Said story won't be starting until after the 10th anniversary, so we won't be talking about it at STLV. Unless Al decides he wants to, I guess.
3) We've been giving Al so much TRIBBLE for this. So much. It's a highlight, really.

Sample dialogue:
Picard: "It's the BEST SHIP EVER and the CREW LOVES IT!"
PWE ARC Drone says: "Your STO forum community as you have known it is ended...Display names are irrelevant...Any further sense of community is irrelevant...Resistance is futile...You will be assimilated..."
There's already a Captain (Lorca) in-game, so getting Patrick Stewart to do V.O. is not a first, nor what was being referred to. It's a story-arc that's going to 'change the face of the game', nothing more, nothing less.
I don't think Cryptic could afford Patrick Stewart to do VO for STO. To date the only show 'Captain' they've gotten was Jason Isaacs to do Captain Lorca; but remember Mr. Isaacs wasn't the series Lead, plus I have a feeling based on comments of how Cryptic thought it wasn't going to happen was probably because Mr. Isaacs might have thought the paycheck was too small but came around at some point and said, "What the hell..."
I think it's great the got Anthony Rapp, and I hope down the road they might even be able to talk Anson Mount and or Ethan Peck into doing something for STO - but Stewart, Shatner, Pine, Brooks (who has pretty much retired), De Lancie, Mulgrew and hell, Spiner are probably all out of Cryptic's price range.

If, however, next year they do announce Jean Luc Picard in STO, you all owe me a Coffee.

For everyone!
I am reminded a bit about some of the reddit "wishes what they tell on the Las Vegas Show"... I mean it's just wishes, but they are also very unrealistic in what stuff would be talked about on such a show. They'll of course talk about grand picture stuff that sounds exciting even to people that haven't played STO yet, so "We'll add a Tier 6 Nova and Norway and also we allow you to repack your Lobi and Lockbox ships so they can transfer to other chararacters" is not really going to be something they will announce, because it's way too specific. (I guess the Nova would have a chance if they say: "And Garret Wang will be leading the new mission arc, playing as the newly promoted Admiral aboard his flagship, the Rhode Island." But the Norway, or <obscure ship in the Borg graveyard top corner> ... nope.)
I agree people often speculate and it turns out wrong. However your statement is also wrong. The quote in question says:
"it is more than just a story arc" and "there is a significant change to the game"
Those are direct quotes, and neither of those quotes are "crystal clear from the beginning the line only concerned the story", like you said.
Now, I honestly don't care and therefore haven't been let down/disappointed by any of this. But don't say things that aren't true just to try to make people look silly about being wrong.

He still has to show a storyline that will change the face of the game. If someone wants to be taken serious he must know the "weight" of the words he picks. Now, of course, its possible we do get some great story that will do that, but its a wait and see case. Apparently its not the september expansion
Of course it's not, it's around the 10th Anniversary.
That is according to our community manager's correction cause Al Rivera aka Geko had said
"Next year’s story arc, its more then just a story arc, its going to change the face of the game…. I’m not going to play 100 questions with you on what is going to change, but we are changing something significant in the game as a result of the arc we are telling"
and its up for anyone to listen it again on the podcast

DR was an awesome story till some folk complained about having to do patrols and that the enemy was too hard. Bear in mind that people are 10 times more likely to complain than compliment.
There were two problems with it.
There was not enough XP to get us to the next mission, so we had to grind like hell to even play the next story mission. And then we had to contend with NPCs that were HP Sponges. Builds that were top end pre DR were struggling when DR hit. Even on NORMAL some of the HP values were extremely high. I think I ended up fighting the space portion of the siege of Vaadwaur Prime for about an hour because the bigger ships had so much HP. ON NORMAL.
Mechanics you can figure out. But when you suddenly have HP sponges... yea that's a problem.
All true, but people continued to whine and moan for many months after that was fixed. Years later they're mocking the "best expansion ever" quote even though (once tweaked) it really was a very good expansion. Except for the episode helping Neelix bake cookies and fix the sink. That needed an option to join in with the slaughter of the Talaxians
Seriously, though, I have my theories on what this "game changing" story might entail, but if I write about it here I'll get banned.
Hey, after 20 years of hard grinding, he deserved it!
Yes I actually like a lot of content that got introduced by it - except neelix, because he is....the jar jar binks of Star Trek
borg BoPs in cure space still outnumber sphere HP by almost 2x...frigates having almost twice the amount of HP a cruiser has - yeah, figure that one out

A normie goes "Oh, what's this?"
An otaku goes "UwU, what's this?"
A furry goes "OwO, what's this?"
A werewolf goes "Awoo, what's this?"
"It's nothing personal, I just don't feel like I've gotten to know a person until I've sniffed their crotch."
"We said 'no' to Mr. Curiosity. We're not home. Curiosity is not welcome, it is not to be invited in. Curiosity...is bad. It gets you in trouble, it gets you killed, and more importantly...it makes you poor!"

Honestly IMO the Delta Expansion was tied with the Gamma Quadrant Expansion (I include the Tzenenkthi Story arc in that expansion, if thought it was technically preceding it as they were tied together strongly plot wise and both tied to DS9).
