Mission journal changes should help here. Level restrictions are being removed, all but those "go to faction hub! Done" missions are being made skippable, and more PVE's are being introduced earlier. You should have more options to level with AoD and there should be less pressure to stick to a single linear grind. Play as you want for narrative, mission rewards, or gameplay (though if it's all unappealing then that may be a sign that you're approaching burnout.)

Things are getting a bit too heated in here. We're not here to debate the merits of Discovery as a whole. This thread was meant to discuss the new upcoming stuff that was just announced with Discovery. If you guys want to debate the merits of the show as a whole then there are already established threads where people have done, and are still doing just that. If you guy's can't debate civilly and respectfully then I'm going to strongly insist that you agree to disagree and move on. Let's see if hopefully this thread can get back on course.

Spock was also able to hold out against Khan in Into Darkness.
Spock was haplessly out of his element until Uhura stepped in and created enough of an opening that even Spock needed something more than his own brute strength to take Khan out. If she hadn't of stepped in to help Spock, he would of been killed no doubt about it.
Seem to recall that being a reason given for why they're physically stronger.
Vulcan didn't just have a higher gravity, but it had a thinner atmosphere and higher ground temps due to the arid climate. So they not only had more strength than humans, but they could breathe in thinner oxygen climates, they had another set of eye lids to protect from sunglare, and can live in temps a lot higher than a human can endure. in fact there is a whole laundry list of things Vulcans are better at than humans due to where they were raised.
Having seen worf devolve into whatever that thing was it's not surprising klingons have and edge over the semi-evolved simians.
who knows what the Klingons evolved from, what worf reverted into could of been one of many ancestor species they had in their past. This was on a human dominated ship showing a wide array of difference species as an evolutionary point. now imagine the results of what of happened if it were a vulcan dominated ship or a klingon ship dominated by klingons.
i wouldn't be so sure the Klingons were all from one ancestor.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

Keplians are a given as far I am concerned, I'm 100% they will be in as are Vulcans, Andorians, Telarites, and humans if course.
Possibly Orions, Trill, Cardassians, and Saurians and a discovery style Klingons (the KDF at least will be getting Discovery and TOS races).
Now here is a thought, if they are doing this for Discovery, could they make factions for the upcoming Picard Series, the Kelvin Timeline, etc...?

Discovery had some great introductions to the FED and I would love for them to serve as central to the DSC mini-faction. It would be such a tragic waste if all we got were Human, Andorian, Tellarite, Vulcan again. That's my one big reservation about AoD: how Cryptic is going to handle species choice (IMO, they've been far too reductive in recent history, even considering the noted back-end difficulties of adding new playable species to the game, and I think that sticking to that trend would completely undermine the prospect of making another 23c character running through a temporal displacement arc. Please, branch out [because if I have to create a stock human for AoD it's forever going to play second fiddle to my main with a Crossfield.])
1. You can't support existing factions with new ship content so taking the time to actually play this new faction isn't worth the effort.
2. I don't really care much for Discovery since it's locked behind a pay wall on CBS. Maybe if it was on regular TV instead of All Access I'd watch it and be more interested.
3. I got enough mini-faction characters as it is. The fact that they're pigeon holed in to the modern Fed or KDF really sours the milk on them especially when ship offers don't keep up. (See #1)
I'd rather have content that doesn't involve playable factions especially because of reason #1.

Probably not, the temporal displacement involved with the Picard series is only 10 years and its hard to say what involvement the KT will have in the franchise moving forward (things are a little up in the air after contract negotiations with Pine apparently fell through.) I think a KDF mini-faction (ex. house Mo'kai alt starting experience) or the Borg cooperative would be more likely.
are Vulcans, Andorians, Telarites, and humans if course.
Possibly Orions, Trill, Cardassians,
and Saurians and a discovery style Klingons (the KDF at least will be getting Discovery and TOS races).
My ideal armchair game dev list would be:
Human
Cyborg
Alien
Vulcan (if there's time)
With DSC Saurian, Andorian, and Tellarite featuring as unlocked customization parts for FED if limited resources are a significant factor (would be great to have more but typically mini-factions have been very parsimonious with playable species.) We do already have the TOS FED and I think that there should be material separation between them and DSC playable species to make the most of AoD. If Cryptic's highly constrained, then I'd go with:
Human (with cyborg cosmetic parts available.)
Alien
Though I could see them pulling another ViL with just human and human+cyborg parts for a c-store species options.

And on the nerdy side, I love the "Holy Trifecta" of starships - seeing it in the show, having a physical model (Thanks, Eaglemoss!) and playing it in a video game. It makes my heart soar.
I know that we can't have Sylvia Tilly as our starter Purple BOff (considering she's going on to the Discovery), but could Mary Wiseman voice a new character that's the starter BOff?
It's best for an actor to be able to show that they can perform in a variety of roles, Ms. Wiseman can use the role for a part of her resume Voice work for movies and TV isn't something to sneeze at
'Captains' are too expensive to bring in as voice actors. So no Kirk (TOS/JJverse), Picard (TNG), Sisko, Janeway, Archer. Discovery is a different matter. The main character is not a captain. Does this mean that Cmdr. Burnham (hmm, name sounds like something from James Bond) is available to voice act in STO?
Michelle Yeoh (watched her in Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, she, Sylvester Stallone, and company should get a spin-off series ) wouldn't be able to play Captain Philippa Georgiou, but would she be able to voice the Empress of ST:D era content?
Do we know if there is going to be a recruitment event for this. I'm holding off on my Cardassian captain on the chance there will be a recruitment event so it would be nice to know if there is one planned.
You may not be able to make a Cardassian Recruit. It will be limited to a certain number of Federation races applicable to the time period.

No confirmation yet, though if there is a recruitment event it's likely to focus on the DSC faction which will likely won't have access to the full standard-FED lineup. If you make a Cardassian character now it shouldn't have much overlap with whatever's going on with DSC, apart from being another FED character (presumably, could go KDF with the CARD for a little separation. )

I'd rather have a more slightly full faction like with the Romulan's not yet another mini faction, there's already AoY and that's more than enough I didn't even care for it either. I wish they gave the Cardassian's their due but now that they've made them available as a species across both Fed and KDF, so that's never likely to happen now.

I'm not sure this will even go as far as being a microfaction. It used the phrase "alternate starting experience" in the blog.
My 11 year old daughter watched every episode of Discovery with me.
That's interesting. Where I'm sitting, netflix's age rating for Discovery was 16...
I'll gladly play the Discovery content when it comes out, and I'll continue to watch the show, even if I, too, think that the writing is bad, and that yet another prequel wasn't the wisest of ideas.
I finally hope we'll get another character slot for AoD, too, so everyone can enjoy the new content with the appropriate character. Another recruitment event on top of that would be nice, but may be demanding too much.

That's what we get out of the TOS FED, just with more exclusive missions. For me what'll set it apart is species choice. If there's something new there then I think microfaction would be appropriate (a la Jem'Hadar by way of AOY.) If it's just Human or the other Founders of the federation (ie. the species twiced used as the nucleus of FED factions) then it's just an alternate starting experience to extant character choices (and those wanting to RP Discovery options may be better served head-canoning their existing characters with Crossfields and Walkers, there isn't much to gain besides a [presumably] non-replayable tutorial and a different starter ship for having that "DSC character.")

I have been wondering about how this will fit into STO as I cant see how you could create a new STO character in the Discovery era and then bring them from the past Klingon war into the future Klingon war.
I wonder if they might have a separate discovery era map like they did with AoY but you either don't leave it, or leave it much later.
That would certainly keep the anti discovery people satisfied.
As an aside I still cannot see why these reasons for hating it are still used
1) It doesn't look like TOS
So you wanted them to make it look like a 1960's show with ropey effects? I can see what people are saying that its "too dark" remember that this follows on from Enterprise where Starfleet was more military because 7 million people got killed by the xindi not to mention the romulan wars. I think discovery will be the journey from that to what we see in TOS and the movies.
2) Burnham is a Mary Sue
I think someone already did a detailed video on this and she isn't. She has flaws, she isn't perfect despite being very clever. She is simply one of the most human star trek characters we have seen. If you'd seen you captain/mentor/friend killed in front of you, would you not want to save her mirror version?. She was a human effectively trying to be a Vulcan to hide the pains of the past
3)Its not Star Trek
The first 2 episodes it was as there is exploration and curiosity and Starfleet did not insta war with the Klingons. It certainly got darker after that but that's mostly because
Lorca was evil mirror lorca
. Once that was out of the way the crew certainly behaved more Starfleet. Yes Starfleet Commands actions at the end were more than questionable but they have done this before (Genesis Device, Invasive program to kill the Borg, Phase Cloaking and the Dominion War)
Hold it...it always drives me BONKERS when someone says "you want cardboard sets, etc" anytime tos is brought up.
Phase 2, ST Continues, Axxanar, as well as In A Mirror Darkly, showed very nicely TOS looking good in modern times.
As for 2, IF I lost a loved one or friend, and saw they had a counterpart in another dimension....YET are barbaric and evil, no I would not bring a space hitler, which Georgio was.
YES! Thank You!! "TOS Style" is not 'crappy sets'. 'Crappy sets' was a casualty of limited budgets and also vfx was in its infancy, with at least 90% of the effects used in the show were innovative, never done before. "TOS Style" created bold, new styles for multiple species & factions, many of which became Iconic.
Armchair authoritarians frequently show their lack of knowledge by promulgating (& regurgitating) weak arguments without any evidence to support their claim. The worst of which is they just hurl insults for their own amusement/ego/whatever.
Getting BACK TO THE TOPIC OF THIS THREAD:
Why am I not seeing any dates for the new content launching, in any of the news posts?
When/Will there be a Recruitment event? This is something of a 'must' for most players as we have maxed out making characters for the various factions.
Which races/species have been confirmed for Player Characters?

PS - I fully support a T6 Nova, fixing the Nova skins. I am also rooting for a T6 Science Cruiser, that can use Nova/Rhode Island skins.
T6 Nova/Rhode Island, T6 Oberth & T6 Constellation are needed. Also needed a T6 Science Cruiser, that can wear any Science or Cruiser skin.
l don't know.
l really don't know what l'm about to say, except l have a feeling about it.
That l must repeat the words that come without my knowledge.'

YES!
