First, you are wrong, my brother played WoW for years, 10 hours of downtime in a week was not even uncommon. Second, due to requirements Cryptic has to operate under with both Microsoft & Sony, the console versions of STO often can't be patched on Thursday when PC id patched.
I played wow for over a decade, I was there when it was called Warcraft. By the time they reached BC, 10 hours of down time would result in a free day of game time. Also, we got little things like new places to explore, a true open world game and loads of updates. Seldom did a real patch only address a few items.
Kind of hoping the extended breach event isn't deemed as compensation or some such, it assumes everyone that is waiting to get into game with the delays is only interested in that one piece of content. Cause it seems a little poor that throwing an extra day of an event and its all good.
funny thing is this isnt the worst ive seen, Rift was horrible , was down 2 straight days once. They did reimburse everyone with cash shop currency and a title which was kinda cool of them.

We generally get extensions to events if things like this happen.
Will they do anything else on top of that? That's their choice. But at least we GET that extension. They could give us nothing at all if they were so inclined. Which I could see if EA had been in charge.

Consider how much of a budget WoW has over this game. As much as I hate defending these people, they have a small(ish) budget, greedy Chinese overlords, and a bunch of forum whiners who want to stay at home in mommy's basement and play games all day... to deal with.

I would suggest not spending ANY money on this game. if everyone stopped spending money on it then maybe they would give a ****. (but don't count on it)
If everybody would do this, the only result would be that this game will be offline forever sooner than later... it's old enough to shut it down if it doesn't bring in the revenue anymore.
I'm not advocating anyone paying for something if they don't want to, but as someone aware of all the flaws and still loving to play, I felt the need to say this.
... and of course, I'd love to have a T5/6 Kamarag, like there is a T5/6 Ambassador.

Cryptic rarely, if ever gives out 'compensation' as you already get a shed ton of stuff FREE in a FREE game.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
That was nice of Cryptic even though the 14 needed out of 21 days available isn't really a crammed schedule. I'm happily surprised Cryptic did this, nicely done.
Actually, when you factor in 4 days of extremlely extended downtime, it actually does drastically shorten the 21 day time frame when taking real life obligations into consideration as well.

Indeed. Especially when pre-created pixels are absolutely free to them, but reap MASSIVE dividends in community
goodwill.
A bunch of forum whiners who want to stay in a basement and play games all day? isn't that every online game ever more or less? (not that everyone who plays is of course)
"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."
I'm getting flashbacks to the game's launch 8 years ago. The forums were almost as much fun as actually playing the game because servers were down half the time and all we could do was complain about the downtime.
Well it was fun while it lasted. Thanks for the forum updates.

To be honest. I wouldn't shed many tears. It's be sad sure, but I wanted the original concept of the game. That of a mix of an RPG (Like Star Trek Adventures) and Bridge Commander. Wanted to be working in a ship with others. Not being the actual ship and doing everything myself.
When someone starts developing that game, then this one can finally die and die well.

For the sake of full disclosure, I am in MY own basement.

No problem with maintenance. Always know that STO maintenances are always excessive and long and there is nothing we can do about it. If it wasn't for my understanding of game development, I would surely thought them guys are a bunch of amateurs , because they keep messing up things and not able to be ready within ETA. ( 90 percent of the time. )
Yet, the only thing that still bothers me, is that PW is keeping their users at bay by promising all kinds of false stuff. When they say it takes 4 hours, you know they lie. But after 2 times delaying it, they place tweets saying things like: "High possibility that it will be online sooner than the given ETA" and STILL manages to even delay THAT one... Promising a lot of stuff, while not able to deliver, is even worse than having maintenances lasting an entire day, IMHO. This isn't really a promise, but it is a positive manipulation to ease the crowd. Which is not necessary! I could relate with long downtimes. I could not relate with false promises or leeching.
If PWE says something positive, then it's almost guaranteed to either be a blatant lie or a fact so polished it may as well be a lie. It's why I stopped following their twitter. It's nothing but self-gratification and lies, and an obvious corporate intent at ignoring every valid criticism at their lack of proper business practices.

It was 21:55 UTC when you posted that.

you may be grateful on my behalf as well, if that makes you feel better.

Yep, no need to get weird with silly demands (like 100k Dilithium, LOL). Let's keep some perspective.

Has 4:20 p.m. (PST) been taken yet? It'd be just my luck with these guys to be busy with something else the moment they go up. LOL

Could be worse.
We could have EA to deal with like TOR does.
