It'll be nice to have the Admiralty cards for the allied ships, but fly them? My Romulans are proud to BE Romulan, and wouldn't be caught dead in an allied ship (except possibly a D-7, because that's canon. Oh, wait, that one isn't allowed. At least the T5-U version is, so that's something).
More homogenization is bad! Diversity is good! Remember IDIC, Devs? Make the factions different, not similar.
Yeah, very nice for admiralty, but I created a Romulan (several in fact) because I wanted to explore a different kind of gameplay, not to end up having yet another defacto Federation/Klingon toon who captains Starfleet/KDF ships...
Now if only we hadn't been stuck with the Toven Boff taking up valuable space.
And on that note, will Romulans ever be able to use additional faction Bridge Officers, like the TOS Holographic crew and Android 0718?
I'm glad this doesn't mean Cryptic will completely abandon adding ships specific for the Romulan/Reman mini-faction, but I can foresee they'll probably only be in Cross Faction 3 or 9 packs.
I do like that Cryptic is allowing the use of the other factions' ships & even impressed with some of the selections. I'm sure some may not think of it as canon, but for the sake of STO game-play I think it adds value since Romulans/Remans were more limited.
This will definitely benefit the Admiralty system for Romulans/Remans, & if a proud Romulan/Reman won't be caught vaporized in another factions' ship one can always choose to pilot Romulan/Reman quality starships.
This was unexpected, to me, & offers the Romulan/Reman mini-faction an expanse of game-play. Well done, Cryptic.
So much negativity here... either it's too few or too much.
I'm always happy for MORE options: the point is, if you don't like 'em, you just don't use them without taking them from others.
If you wish to stick to specific ships you can since they clearly stated they still will do more - otherwise I too would have been rather pissed off.
The whole Alliance thing only makes sense now that everyone can use almost every ship since we're all aboard on the same boat -literally now.
Better if every ship tomorrow but I guess no because CBS vetoes.
More on it, it would have been better if the whole romulan alliance choice system would have been designed differently so that rather than choose the allegiance for ships you would have done that just for the story and leave ship choice open.
After all the whole Fed-KDF thing never worked and was doomed to end anyway.
But I imagine that would have been a pain in the *head* to code.
still... GOOD NEWS! THANKS!
I still dream from time to time about using the Gateway to doff off-game in spare minutes as we were told
"Rise like Lions after slumber, In unvanquishable number, Shake your chains to earth like dew, Which in sleep had fallen on you-Ye are many they are few"
Well, I can say I didn't see this coming. A great boon to Admiralty for Romulans.
Now that it has, when can Fed and KDF Captains fly Romulan ships? And for that matter, when will Feds be able to fly KDF ships and vice versa? You have to realize that now that you've opened the floodgates, there will be cries of "My Fed wants to fly X Romulan ship and Y Klingon ship, NAO!" It'll be interesting to see what happens here on the forums.
Honestly though, I think this is an overall bad idea. And this is coming from someone who loves the Romulan storyline and the look of the Romulans ships (mostly) but absolutely detests the singularity mechanic. I fly cross faction ships on my Roms as it is, or the newer ships that have a warp core.
From now on it would seem that I won't need to buy Rom ships unless I really want them. Of course, when there is a 3 pack or super-sized 9 pack, I always viewed getting the Fed/KDF ships as the selling point and the Rom ones were free. So I suppose that I'll still get Rom ships when they are part of one of these packs. I just doubt I'll ever buy a Rom ship singly again, unless it has a warp core.
Hello. My name is iamynaught and I am an altaholic.
I would like to see a Romulan skin for these ships. makes sense that the romulans using these vessels would paint them in there own colours like when Britain or USA or whatever gives ships/tanks/planes to other nations they are repainted in that nations colours
Those exclusions seem reasonable. Thanks to the powers that made this decision. I personally prefer my Roms to use Warbirds/Singularity cores (to maintain their exclusivity) but this is still a very nice thing to do.
Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

If you don't want to fly an allied ship as a romulan, then don't. No one is forcing you to. This just gives those of us that want the option that ability to do so if we choose. It also gives us more admiralty cards.
I mainly bought the Command Assault cruiser for its trait for my Romulan - that purchase will still be useful since the Presidio is excluded from the upcoming change. Besides that ship and the T6 Valdore, I've only bought the Faeht which is my main Romulan ship.
So none of my ship purchases will have been for nothing, while my Romulan will finally get access to many more Admiralty cards. And more ship choices of course.
I also hope this will eventually lead to removal of all (or at least most) restrictions between factions. I would be more interested in making a Klingon character if something similar would be done for that faction. Right now such a character would simply have too few options and limited resources for things like Admiralty.
This would have been great a while ago when i was still actually playing the game. Now i rather spend time on exchange that playing the game lol. I find exchange a more relaxing experience then most of the stf-s devs add. Too much waiting time, too many time gates, too little rewards on most of 'em. Add all three together (and more depending on variations) and one can easily see why this game declined. There are ALOT more fun games out with if one is not fixed on ST franchise.
And i am not saying this with hate but with much sadness as this was one of my favorites games until the said above hit critical mass ( and others) and made it too boring and grindy for any taste at least.
But i do hope that the new season will come with some fun stuff.
A Great Era comes to an end Romulan Republic you will be always in my heart.
A move like that does not come as benefit to the players there are buiseness decisions involved.
Hardliners like me did only buy Romulan Ships and skipped anything FrED related Cryptic certainly is not happy about that spending resources and money into one crappy FrED cruiser after another and not getting them sold is bad RoI and in addition for all the 9 packs cutting those down to 6 Packs what now would be possible with upcoming ships packs reduces production cost.
So no not that stocked about this change i don't see that many Romulan ships been released in the future and to dangle warpcore ships in front of Romulans only adds one more item players have to upgrade with dilithium.
Besides it's not that existing Romulan ships did get a fair treatment of art fixes compared to FrED Ships still waiting on the ROM Multi Mission Ship fix for the messed up Deflector FX.
So in the End great for Admirality if you bought all those FrED Ships in the Past but if not goodbye to any mayor new Romulan Ship releases past Lockbox and promo.
Hmm... interesting - i think it includes all Zen store ships (from allied faction of course) - i don't actually like lobi store or lockbox ships - so I'm not talking about them.
Of course the blog contains error - the Romulans could fly allied ships of tier 1-4 before.
Now a questions:
Can I put T5 Vesta console set on Romulan T6 Multi-mission Explorer?
Or Andorian Wing Cannons (or even Wing Cannon Platforms) on a Dewan Pilot Escort?

I like this idea, but it would be great if we could get bridges/interiors for these ships that have a Romulan feel to them. Just different color tones and palettes, and have the LCARS displays switched to Roumlan Green or even the Romulan language. It would also be nice to get more uniforms for Romulans or an expanded color palette. Maybe even giving them limited variants of Fed and KDF uniforms with the Romulan color Palette.
I am in shock. THANK YOU!!!!! This is amazing news. This makes total sense for STO canon. I might even get some more ship slots. Oh, the options. Now, I'm not complaining, not in the slightest, but shouldn't the Romulans get the D7, or some variation of it? I am so getting the fleet ambassador for my Fed-Roms. I am also looking forward to the new additions to my admiralty fleets. Looking into the future, I hope this means we will see Romulan warbirds that are heavily influenced by Fed/KDF designs, and most importantly...with a warp core! One of my favorite looking designs in the game is the Dehlan. I so wish that was a T6 cruiser with a warp core. I am looking forward to what you make for us in the future. Again, thank you for this! Oh, and I agree that Fed/KDF ships should have Romulan paint jobs.

Edit, Had to re-read it, some reason I thought the Fed's and KDF were getting access to the rom ships as well.
