There has been a lot new content in Star Trek (regarding both lore and ships) thanks to the Kelvin and Discovery timeline productions. Regardless of you like them or not (I personally loath TRIBBLE), hopefully it is a great opportunity to bring new fans into Star Trek and STO too. For this reason I was thinking about the possibility of an AoY type expansion, say Agents of Timelines or something. It would work mostly like AoY, except that it would include the Klingons too, since they have been represented thoroughly both in ID and TRIBBLE.
We already got some of the related assets (ships, weapons, costumes) in game in various ways, but I don’t think it’s a problem, since there are still plenty of assets in those IPs and Cryptic can also make them available again, if they want.
I think the AoY episodes and the one episode we got in the Kelvin Timeline were great, so an expansion of this kind would be also good to play, and it also could bring new player into the game, who are only familiar, or only like these new additions to the Star Trek universe.

Yes, the very next ex. will be 'Victory is Life' this summer.
I obviously don't know if they've already planned the next one after that or not, I'm just saying it would be cool if we got more Kelvin Timeline and TRIBBLE stuff in it like in Aoy. And I'm curious what the cummunity thinks about that idea.

We're not getting another faction like the Romulans. Not only that, most of the Dominion ships are lockbox. Hell... the Bugship is an R&D Promo. Not only that, the only non playable Cardi ship currently out there is the Hideki. The Galor and Keldon are Lockbox.
We also have a bit of a pattern forming in Expansions.
LoR - New Faction - Romulan
DR - No faction
AoY - New Subfaction - TOS Fed
ViL - No faction (if pattern holds)
If we ever do get new factions, it will most likely be subfactions like the TOS Feds. They literally cannot do a full faction like the Romulans due to the sheer number of ships they'd have to design. We're talking levelup, Intel, Miracle Worker, Pilot, Command, Temporal...
This late in... we're not getting a full on faction. And most certainly not anything Dominion due to the above stated fact of SHIPS IN LOCKBOX.

i like spoilers and i researched somethings so it will definitely be !!!
D.R. yes no new faction per say. but a recr. event .. my guess is some of us will after levl 50 or 60 dominion citizens ^^ or allied with them..
and cardis are no longer dom. yet dom. for blue faction and true way for red would be nice. and an incentive for people, to play the red faction ..
They could still do a full on Dominion faction if they wanted to do so, whether or not they will is another debate entirely. There's some easy ways the issues you mention can be explained away that they already set the ground work for. If you've ever read the flavor text on the Galor, Keldon, and Jem'hadar ships now you'll see an example of what I mean. The Cardassians themselves left the Dominion at the end of the war and changed sides. With that bit in mind, unless you count a splinter faction like the True-Way they wouldn't need to utilize the Cardassian ships as part of our hypothetical Dominion faction. In fact not utilizing them would give them alot more freedom to design brand new ships. If we want to assume for our hypothetical faction that they do choose to utilize the Cardassian ships there is an easy way around this. The Galors we have now were said in the flavor text to be left over Galors that Legate Damar intended to release to the Alliance forces during the Dominion war. So they're essentially older Galors we've since taken and updated. The Keldons we have now are simply said to be built for the Obsidian Order. Since they for the most part were wiped out we can say that the Keldons we have were surviving ships or that they were gifted to the alliance. As for the Bug ships, Jem'Hadar Heavy Escort Carrier, and the Jem Dreads, the bug ships were explained as some of them being found adrift in space after the end of the Dominion War, and that the Dominion didn't want them back or simply didn't care. The other ships can be explained in a similar fashion. As such the Alpha Quadrant powers were able to update the ships using Federation, Klingon, and Romulan technology. Thus you could say in a way they're Alpha Quadrant knockoffs of Dominion ships.
For leveling ships this is what they could do. Tier 1, a single ship such as an old t1 bug ship. Tier 2-4 would each have 3 ships, a sci ship, escort, and cruiser like we do now with the current factions. At t5 you have again 3 ships to pick from. These ships would be the equivalent of the free sovereign class we get while leveling on the fed side. Each of the lower tier ships and these t5 ships could then be re-used and made into end game t6 ships. Thus 1 model but 2 ships out of said model if that makes sense.
If they were to make a full Dominion faction or even sub-faction, that's one way they could do it. Whether or not they actually will/have remains to be seen and is another debate outright.

Just like there's already been a DS9 expansion. ViL is yet another DS9 related expansion and they might do one for Delta again.
My point should've been that I think Delta might get some more content since DS9 which already had a mission arc is now getting more content in the form of an expansion. I just think they might revisit Delta again after the DS9 expansion is complete.
Um, they already did a ST:Voy 'Delta Quadrant' expansion. It was called Delta Rising.
I would expect the next Expansion to cover more of Sytar Trek: Discovery (what with the recent lockbox); or possibly be more "Enterprise" themed.

These are the only two shows not yet touched all that much in STO. As for 'skipping TNG' - please; the ENTIRE run up to the STO launch was TNG related in that is was all the events (post ST:Nemesis) that led up to the 'start' of the STO 'era'. They also have Denise Crosby, Michael Dorn, and Levar Burton and reprising their TNG character roles for the game so far. I doubt they could afford either Brent Spiner (who has had a career in VO over the years) or Patrick Stewart.
(They haven't been able to get any of the original 'Captains' to reprise their roles in any way yet. Again, probably too expensive.)
PWE ARC Drone says: "Your STO forum community as you have known it is ended...Display names are irrelevant...Any further sense of community is irrelevant...Resistance is futile...You will be assimilated..."
There is talk of a possible merger that will reunite the Star Trek IP under one umbrella though.

Yeah... that was sarcasm.
Why can't it be realistic and why should these canon designs be needed? those galors are ancient, they were already and haplessly outmatched by a galaxy class ship during the 2360's and only a handful of Keldons were ever in service around 2370 and after that they were never seen again. let the alliance take these third hand hand-me-downs like they are gold.
Besides the best way to remove the elements of an old rotten order is to tear it down and start over, build new warships, far more modern Cardassian design that outmark the old galor class and fill in the gaps between cruisers and shuttles with more original class ships to be a more versatile fighting force.
who says you need anything to make a new faction and it "CANNOT" be done?
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Don't see a lot of Discovery-related content (besides ships, costumes, etc.) happening anytime soon, since that's likely still ongoing and can't be messed with too much. Maybe some stuff that probably won't show up on the show again (Tardigrades?), but that's it. And most of the Enterprise stuff (that's not related to the Temporal Cold War) really only works in that specific time period; Earth-Romulan War, the founding of the Federation, etc. Not sure about the Kelvin/JJTrek stuff, that all seems like it's in limbo at the moment.
Meanwhile, 2020 (probable date for X5's release) would be Voyager's 25th Anniversary, with 2021 being the 25th for First Contact; great Trek moments to celebrate with a DQ/Borg-themed expansion.
Expansion 5 - Star Trek Online: Liberation
That is why I think an AoY type Kelvin/Discovery faction would work. First of all we already have ships for them, STO just need to adapt existing 3D modells. And those ships would be avaiable in the store for every other player too.
Secondly, after they reach leavel 40 or 50 they would just merge into their representative factions and would use the existing ships.
That's not a big problem IMO, since we already have lots of Kelvin stuff in game.

Well now, once that happens, then maybe we'll get more, Miss Xiao Long.

We have approximately 2.75 ships, five weapons, and outfit pieces. Not exactly a lot
If that's not it, then it will probably be related to either the Andromeda galaxy, or the Galactic Union. Maybe both.
We've run out of things that warrant an expansion. First was an entirely new faction, then the Delta Quadrant, TOS era and the next one will likely add the Gamma Quadrant. Which means that, unless they want to add more factions (which is unlikely) or do an Enterprise / pre-TOS era expansion (so more time travel to the past), they will have to take us to places outside the Milky Way or move us to the future.
I would like to see Iconia being rebuilt and relations being re-established, for example. Or renewed contact with the Undine or the Voth or factions within those powers. That could lead to an expansion that takes us to the time of the Galactic Union.
True, the Cardassians CAN be made a faction (or sub-faction like the Roms) just make the Galor / Keldon Mk.2 with a different seating and very minor visual differences. The Galor is a very old lockbox so its not like its one of the super sought after ones. Plus, the lockbox can still keep it's 'specialness' with the Spiral Wave weapons. The faction would just have plain old phasers.
As someone that has a Galor, I'd not throw a fit if a Cardy faction was made that had one. Especially if you have to roll a Cardy toon to get one (aka like Roms and Warbirds)
1) We have not had our DS9 expansion yet, which technically will be VIL.
2) We technically have had Enterprise lumped in with TOS since the Temporal stuff was from Enterprise.
3) Discovery hasn't taken us anywhere exciting because we've only had one season thus far. And in my opinion, diving into the mirror universe and seeing an alternate take of how the mirror versions of the Discovery cast went though life was honestly exciting.
I think in order to incorporate that into the game, Cryptic and CBS would have to negotiate with Paramount for the rights to use the other stuff.
I honestly don't think this is going to happen.
