Anyone have any news on a likely calendar date for the actual punch line to this joke?

It's apparently gong to be well after the new year before an actual court decision is announced about all the DISCOVERY phase interactions.

My guess would be that both CBS & Paramount would prefer that the WRATH of PETERS be over with by mid-May 2017.

But this thing could drag on well into 2017 or even BEYOND.

    Clever daveyny. Very clever.

I just have a feeling Peters is going to drag this out as long as possible.

That could backfire extensively in his face if the judge finds in CBS/Paramounts' favor.
He may end up going bankrupt with having to pay off all the court expenses for both sides.
Good thing he's got a completely furbished Studio to sell.

The trial, per Axamonitor, is supposed to begin January 31, 2017. This assumes that there is no more delay with the discovery or pretrial process obviously.

Also, my screenshot upthread was to point out that Alec's lawyers had recieved the documents relating to the copyright chain that they wanted, and therefore they dismissed that request.

    Heh...
Seems the CBS/Paramount Lawyers were ready for that particular stunt well ahead of time.

The Discovery complaint stated that Alec's legal team didn't recieve a full copyright trace from CBS/P. So while CBS/P may have been ready for that, they just didn't hand over all the documents.

In general, Loeb & Loeb seem to be doing a pretty good job with this case. They were fairly quick about getting Terry Macintosh a 4 TB external storage device for his deposition. Plus the documents filed by Loeb and Loeb seem to be pretty easy reads, and that is a nice thing, coming from a non-lawyer.

One could assume that the CBS/Paramount lawyers are not going to make it easy for Peters to prove his case and will only hand over just enough documents as could be required, unless the Judge orders otherwise...

WOW, I just came across this really interesting thread from the TREK BBS.
It's originally from 2012 and has several posts by Mr. Peter's himself in it.

    http://www.trekbbs.com/threads/cbss-rules-of-engagement-for-star-trek-fan-films.187825/page-2

It has some basic guidelines for Trek Fan Productions from CBS that were conveyed by other folks who were actually making fan films at that time.

Funny how Mr. Peter's seems to have completely ignored a basic set of rules that he himself asked for (and got) in that thread.
(his TrekBBS names are "LINNEAR" and "LOKEN", he signs his posts with the name Alec)

Conniving is a word that will now come to mind whenever I read anything about that man.
    smh

Also, the over all discussion over the four year period of the thread, is quit informative.

Oh you should pop by the cbs paramount vs axanar group on Facebook if you want real funny info on Peters

Today I saw a few what the . . . . Screen caps of what Peters says about other people etc

Certainly makes you think how does this man have any friends.

Not to mention it has lot of us to date info that axamonitor doesn't cover.

While there is evidence of extreme carelessness and gross negligence in the handling of the Star Trek IP, there is no evidence of criminal intent so no reasonable Prosecutor would recommend filing charges.

Wait a minute, didn't I hear that one before? ;)

Knowingly using someone else's IP without explicit permission, is intent. That he used said IP elements in his attempt to raise funds, again, is not just intent, but willful violation of IP which not only was not his, but that he knew was not his, and has known for some time was not his... It's legally indefensible... Sure, he might have the legal right to make counterclaims etc, but there's no validity to the foundation of his defence. It's nothing more than building a health code-compliant hotel on top of quicksand. It may look great from whatever angle it's viewed from, and people might love staying in it and have a great time staying in it, but eventually, it's going to sink...

Erin Ranahan, the attorney representing Axanar in the copyright infringement suit, told Jason they would turn over additional documents and allow CBS and Paramount a second chance to interview Peters on a limited basis. Jason wants the judge in the case to order Peters to meet with the Star Trek attorneys again to talk about his communication with Gossett and with CBS.
A request for comment from Axanar late Thursday was pending return.
Jason also wants the court to “declassify” Axanar’s financial report. Axanar’s attorneys shared that report with CBS and Paramount, but labeled it “highly confidential” because, according to the court filing, “Mr. Peters does not want to reveal the amounts that he paid to himself and his colleagues, or the amounts he spent on personal expenses.”
    Bwahahahahahahahahahaha :D:D:D

There has been no ruling on the rest yet.

So Peters may still have to be deposed and all his hidden gems turned over to L&L.

The "hidden gems" are probably already in the massive amount of paperwork that came up when the CBS lawyer deposed Christian Gossett, the director of Prelude to Axanar, last weekend.
Seems Gossett kept a very detailed accounting of his work on that production (and retianed everything)

That would be the only way they would know that there are emails out there.

The lawyer is just fishing to see if Mr. Peter's IS hiding anything.
If he didn't turn over everything he had, he could be held in contempt of court.

It could be that Peters deleted his copies of the emails, meaning he wouldn't have access to them to turn them over... Equally, he's definitely arrogant enough to try and say he doesn't have them, even if he does. He's already in contempt of court for his "That's Chinese writing..." trick, someone like that doesn't stop while they're ahead, but just keeps on digging themself deeper ;)

How is this in the "wrong forum"? Ten-Forward is for anything not related to STO. Basically this is the Spam section some forums have. And technically talk about Axanar is Star Trek related as we're being kept informed of an ongoing legal battle between the owners of Star Trek and the guy behind Star Trek: Axanar, which is not a licensed product.
