I don't know about the rest of you but I haven't been around for half a century or longer yet and still have quite a bit of time to get to that point first. :P However, I originally got into Star Trek by watching TOS reruns when I was a kid. Not too long after that, the TNG series started airing and I was hooked! Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home was the first Star Trek movie I ever saw, which made me go back and watch the others.
Whether or not PWE surprises or disappoints us on the 50th anniversary doesn't take away from what we all have enjoyed over the many years of what Gene Roddenberry created more than 50 years ago!
Things like that are usually announced roughly an hour after maintenance so patience is a virtue.
Even if there is nothing, there is nothing lost except an opportunity.
Best take here. Cryptic is hard at work making sure you have a game to play at all. I'm sure they are doing the best they can with the resources available.
Well, Syfy channel is celebrating with a Trek movie marathon!
They say time is the fire in which we burn. Right now, Captain, my time is running out. We leave so many things unfinished in our lives... I know you understand.
What is sad is months ago they had said they had been working with CBS for the 50th anniversary promotion for the last 1-2 years.
I expected something like the yearly STO anniversary celebrations with Q and big banners saying happy 50th Anniversary lasting a week or so but nada. Ever since they promoted someone off overwatch of the blog posts they seem to have gone into the dumper as far as blog posts keeping us updated. Even the Scify channel in my area is doing a day long celebration to Star Trek that they have been advertising all week prior to today. Well at least i managed to pull a T6 Connie from my 4th R&D box.
Happy 50th anniversary to the rest of you guess we get to celebrate in our own way.
Give it time as I'm sure something will happen. It may not actually be today that it happens but I can't see them letting the 50th go by without some type of something.

I'm gonna give it until Noon pacific myself.
Also... I agree with leemwatson, they may have some big surprise planned and they don't want to spoil said surprise.
For everyone else...

Just loaded into game after patch, nothing on launcher, at ESD, or even a Happy 50th intro loading screen that is really just dropping the ball. But as long as the R&D promo boxes are selling I guess thats the celebration.
If only there were some kind of expansion with an announcement by some trendy person...
You know, an expansion where you get to become some kind of agent and get a bunch of rewards for finding TRIBBLE in missions you've already done 10 times?

They probably completely forget about it, and instead were busy this year making Agents of Yesterday, getting a Kelvin Connie and the TOS Connie as endgame ship into the game, and making Star Trek Online available on the TV screen as if Star Trek was some kind of goddamn TV show.
Not a single nod to the 50th Anniversary of Star Trek.
That because most likely they are under a lockdown socially and not allowed to say anything until the time is right....such as in 20 minutes from the time of this post
And I repeat the above since people aren't paying attention.....THEY ARE PROBABLY ON LOCKDOWN! IE...not allowed to say ANYTHING till a specified time, which might be the ACTUAL broadcast time of the original episode!
You know, I'm in no way an optimist but this actually makes sense.
No, more like... on the Actual Day, They at least acknowledge the biggest event in the history of the IP...
You know, not in the middle of the work day on the West Coast, but perhaps at least at the start of the day for the rest of the country.
Would it had been so difficult to post an Official HAPPY 50TH ANNIVERSARY STAR TREK thread early this morning or even last night before going home for the day...

Technically it's not the 50th yet as it's not past the original broadcast time of the very first episode....they could be just waiting for that. Not really dropped the ball as they've had AoY event and released a T6 Connie in celebration already. People really shouldn't set their expectations so high all the time. Keep them low so anything more is a blessing!

Just as a side note....anyone who also plays Star Trek Alien Domain will tell you that their celebration is a blatant cash-grab. I recommend people play that game before even trying to complain about this game's faults.....Pay2Win Extremely Limited Sprites is the only classification I can apply to it. STO IS the best F2P out there. Happy 50th Star Trek. LLaP!

Alien Domain is basically just a Facebook game. Of course it will be weak.

Yeah...kind of like how Delta worked, but more timey-wimey and with a few more bells and whistles.

For those of us keeping score (and I know no one here would EVER do that, hahahahah) ...
NASA > Cryptic in terms of recognizing and celebrating the 50th anniversary today. My Facebook is blowing up with awesome shares from NASA regarding Trek and this special day!
I mean, just on the whole let's be positive vibe ... I am always inspired when I find RL scientists getting their Trek on. And NASA is almost always dropping a Trek reference here or there when I least expect it.

Kinda splitting hairs here about the whole broadcast time thing in my opinion, the official Star Trek website hasn't waited for any official broadcast time, nor has the growing number of tributes from others like NASA, or the SyFy channel, so that doesn't make a whole lotta sense to me.
I can agree that perhaps the perception is that we've already celebrated with the launch of AOY and the loto promotions, but a little fanfare on the actual milestone would have been appropriate too I think. It's not like a 50th anniversary comes along everyday.
In so far as keeping expectations low, Perhaps with other mundane events yeah, maybe.
But the 50th anniversary of the franchise ? One in which most of the developers profess to be big fans of? Sorry, I can't go with that much.
To treat the actual day as though it were just any other day, in the most successful game of the franchise, WHILE others are making such a big deal of the event, falls real short in my opinion.
This was/IS an opportunity to draw some needed attention to the game, maybe even draw some new players to the game, especially when the whole world's attention is focused on Star Trek today.
Course MAYBE, PWE didn't want any time devoted to the anniversary, beyond something that doesn't sell a lotobox, I dunno.
Well it looks like @trekonlinegame had a Tweet about a half hour ago 'Happy Anniversary @startrek Here's to 50 amazing years and many more to come...'. Yep, I feel good now.

Yeah I noticed the same thing. I usually don't even know about whatever they're celebrating, so to have them overlook this is disappointing.
Happy 50th to all involved in Star Trek, fellow fans of Star Trek, and may we reach the full potential that Gene Roddenberry originally envisioned.
