A free T6 connie to everyone who logs in during the anniversary would have been something to praise Cryptic for, since that is now off the table thanks to their greed (not to mention something that taints this anniversary) I wouldn't be surprised if they just end up giving everyone a Star Trek 50th anniversary tribble, and if that is the case I'll end up laughing myself to death.

Cryptic likely had to pay a lot of money to obtain the rights to use that specific IP in the game. Therefore, from a business point of view it would have been a very bad business decision to spending a lot of money for something and turn around and give it away fro free.
Sure players would love to get a free T6 Connie and it would make a lot of people extremely happy. But is that worth for a potential quarterly loss for Cryptic / PWE? That also sets up a bad precedent where players start to feel entitled (as if it has not already happened.... umm... the post I am quoting) to get awesome and expensive stuff for free for playing a free to play game.
Yeah, PWE / Cryptic / CBS / Paramount are not charitable non-profit organizations. But even those type of organizations have bills to pay.
Doubt you will get anything above a free t1 connie, but then I personally would be disappointed if they did give away t5/6 connie as its a ship that I still dont think should have ever been added to the game at that level.

Ahh... Gene Wilder... died at the age of 83 (June 11, 1933 to August 29, 2016) from complications with Alzheimer's disease. I didn't know he had Alzheimer's, then again that was a family secret.
Maybe a Lucille Ball photonic bridge officer.
Since one might argue if it weren't for her talking them into accepting a second pilot there might have never been a Star Trek to begin with.
Oh give me a break, prove that is the case I dare thee!
Prove what?
Everything I stated?
Yes, prove to us all that Cryptic had to pay a vast sum of money for a ship model (IP) they ALREADY had in their product and quote them on that being the excuse for the gamble lottery!
If Cryptic didn't already have the rights to the original series and refit connie then they either would never have had the ship in the game from day one, or they would have had to remove it at some point in the game's existence because they lost the rights to it, the fact that this is for a T6 version is purely incidental.
The excuse as to why a T5/T6 connie wasn't activated in the game up until now was because the "higher-ups" didn't like the idea, not because Cryptic lacked the rights.
If your statement was directed towards the Kelvin constitution then I'd see your point, otherwise nope.
Final summation is Cryptic had the rights to the original series and refit connie since day one, and this whole gamble for a T6 version is motivated by greed, plain and simple!
25th century Constitution class in C-store that can use TOS and/or TMP skin. It wont be as good as the lockbox ship, but will make Cryptic a buttload of money because, well, many of us don't go the lockbox route and would much rather just buy the darn thing outright. /dreaming
In reality, perhaps a mission with some voiceovers and a TOS Enterprise Admiralty card as reward /lame.
*************************** Fleet Admiral In charge of Bacon Fighting 5th Attack Squadron The Devils Henchman
A new 50 episode AOY/Temporal story line as you chase Sela, voiced by Denise Crosby (one of the most influential Star Trek Online voice actors) across the 23rd, 25th, 29th and 31st centuries.
Along the way interacting with Daniels, Chekov, Scotty, Archer, Kirk, Picard, Q, everyone from Voyager except Janeway, Sisko, Gul Dukat, Elim Garak, and Noye.
Eventually culminating with the defeat and capture of Sela at Procyon V, awarding a unique Admiralty Card.
P.S. in a blog story posted weeks later... Sela escapes...
While Cryptic had right to use the TOS Constitution as a T1 starship, that does not automatically mean that they had the right to use for a T6 starship because that is considered a separate product and would generally mean it would be necessary to secure the IP right again to produce the second product. However, the devil is in the detail and that is in whatever confidential contract Cryptic and CBS had originally signed. Business generally do not give carde blanche for the use of an IP. That would me very little sense from business point of view (and can also lead to the possibility of damaging the value of the IP itself). Therefore, it is not unreasonable to say that Cryptic had to pay CBS for the right to use IP for a second product.
I suppose the correct legal term for the T6 Connie is that it is a derivative product since it is based off of the original product.
May 2011: Q: dorko1 I know that the refit is still a touchy subject, but could you guys shed any light on what might happen? I understand that there should be obvious misgivings about the idea of the Constitution class outmatching a vessel 200 yrs new and twice its size, but a replica that's really more of an Excalibur class vessel might be able to add something to the mix.
A: You are correct that it is a touchy subject amongst the community and based on the discussions we've had with CBS about ships, I don't think we're going to put a high-end Constitution Class refit into the game. You can still have a lower tier TOS Connie use the Squad Leader feature to bring their stats up to a higher level, but the odds of an end game Connie refit is a long shot.
November 2012: Q: (thmichael) Are you going to implement the Ambassador Class at some point? And would it be possible to implement the Old Constitution Class for higher ranks?
A: Yes. The Ambassador class is coming in 2013. CBS is still pretty adamant about the Old Connie not being an end game ship, but you never know what can happen as time rolls by.
no company will ever give the monetary breakdown for their decisions outside of an annual report to stockholders. but you have now seen the quotes from cryptic saying they could not do an end game connie because of cbs.

I wouldn't mind Q making us jump through flaming hoops for the T6 Temporal version of the TOS constitution, Maybe a scaled down version of the Enterprise J, (the Olympic class is it?).
I'm developing a theory tho, if true, it might not even be a ship. I hope I'm wrong. I kinda like ships.
Anyway, whatever the 50th event reward IS, I hope it ISN'T another admiralty card. That's kinda like getting socks for Christmas.
^ I remember reading somewhere that the Enterprise-J was a "Universe-class" exploration vessel designed to travel intergalactic distances by a "space fold" system that was described as "beyond transwarp," tho I have no idea whether any of that's canon or not.

Exactly, like I stated the "higher-ups" didn't like the idea of a T5/T6 connie, and it had nothing to do with IP rights, the end.

That is the Enterprise-J's designer's headcanon about the ship. Just like the Akira's Designer's headcanon had it as a carrier and we got the Heavy Escort Carrier as a result.
At best a free tribble or maybe a freebie tier 3 ship. At worst "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!" and nothing.

The Tier 6 TOS Light Cruiser is available for free on September 8 for anyone that logs in. It has the same Bridge Officer and console layout and stats as the Temporal Light Cruiser, but no Molecular Reconstruction and a different console and ship mastery ability.

AOY happened and introduced T6 TOS ships so its probably time for some people make peace with losing this argument.
If they do do something I doubt it will be something not TOS related.
