Yes it is, with today's patch! I'm glad I'm not the only one. Makes it a bit more difficult to complete.

It took me a minute to get used to it. I found going top down full zoom before I scan helps.

Not more difficult, just more annoying. Being forced to move a bit and scan again if you miss the flash. Not a challenge, a waste of time.

Shame. Flying around exploring the island looking for artifacts would be fun if I didn't have to stare at the ground under my feet all the time.

Yeah this mission seems ridiculous now as the lines vanish even before the progress bar for the scan is completed. Literally a second if that, makes doing it without spending all day looking at the floor a nightmare.

    I found the junk today.

So, is it, like many of the others, a reference to Bill & Ted, BttF, or some other time travel franchise and I'm just missing it?

Also, I stopped following the red lines about the 3rd time I ran the mission, now they're just annoying for a shorter time.

I think it's a more subtle gag. Namely that being temporally displaced doesn't make it useful.

I found my Junk a long (long) time ago, but only found the in-game artifact of that name yesterday.

I need three more to finish the accolade.
(Tox Uthat (Replica), Orb of Time (Replica), & Dixon Hill and the Black Orchid)

Ignore the lines. I've been watching them on the first scan that gives them, and they're at best imprecise, at worst directly misleading. Comparing that initial arc with where I actually find the Dig Site, I find that a decent amount of times, the site isn't even within the arc at all. That's not very helpful, if you ask me. Follow a cardinal direction and use the Closer/Further prompts to eliminate the potential sites, there are 15 of them in total, until you have it narrowed down to a few possibilities, or one. It's like a big game of Marco Polo. The pool's very large, but you have excellent ears, can swim very fast, and the target isn't allowed to move.

I'm averaging a little over 2 minutes per hunt this way.

Nah, it's always between the lines.

see the second arrow? it's not in the center of the V, but just inside it. It works better that way.

I'm telling you that I've had first scans, the one after intializing, that give an arc centered on the East when I'm facing South and have had the final location be to the South of the Island, not even on the Eastern side. There was no permutation or extension of that initial arc that contained the final point of the site from where I was standing when I scanned. This kind of thing happens between 20 and 30% of the time, even.

Also I'm fairly sure there's at least 16 sites, that's based on locations reported from several sources.

Taking two bearing and drawing a line that is equally between the two works every time for narrowing things down right off the bat. Going round all the sites "guessing" based on the hot/cold hints would be highly inefficient.

I got it on the first time of the event for the 50 marks. However the 2nd I never found it before the time ran out. And it had me walking all over the place.

I don't think its worth my time. So I will start to skip it.

Start the mission outside of the special reward period, then turn it one when the event is up. That way you have an hour to scan if needed and don't have to race the timer if you get a difficult one.

I don't care one way or the other for the bonus during the special reward period, it I get it I get it, if not its no biggie.
the thing that interests me the most is getting the accolade on my 3 main characters.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

I will often get a heading or two (such as the tent, then the promenade) then just go to known locations in that general area indicated by the heading/s. I can usually narrow it down to 3 or less locations with 2 headings.

I really hope they refine it, like giving an apx distance to the artifact or narrowing the 'V' of the guide bars as you get closer. Right now this is more annoying than fun.

Yes! Having the V start to narrow as you get closer to the artifact would be a huge improvement to this event

Good idea that SWTOR's been doing for a few years now. Somebody on the dev staff please borrow a friend's SWTOR account or watch them do it and see how it works, then make it happen here for next year. :) (I know it's not gonna happen this year.)

That's how the regular scan thing in sTO works.. sort of... the regular scan actually gets wider as you get closer.

I think the point here is that Qwen gave you a crappy scanner because normal scanners don't work at all.
