Gee, I was always happy with 2 Horg'ahn Hunts, and gleeful with the occasional 3rd. Last year, of course, doing two is tight this year. :/

I usually only do three anyway, but this year it gets cut close with the long loading times when swapping toons. I hope this Thursday's patch fixes it.

Thanks, BTW, to @lordsteve1 for compiling the map. Very nice tool.

You're welcome. I'll be keeping an eye on things this week to add any extra points but things have dried up for me for the moment with only 16 locations.
I'm convinced there's more, 20 points to match the 20 accolades makes sense.

Hope the devs have a fix for the slow load times in Risa and maybe improve the dumb scanner this Thursday.

Yeah, I THINK one of the ones I did early in the event was a location not marked on the map, but I've not gotten that one again.

The lines aren't consistent with being "fixed" in place because every time you scan you are at the vertex of the angle, no matter where you are at. I've also seen the rays run up trees, which you wouldn't think would happen if they were just a hidden layer of the map. There's something going on under the hood here, but I'll be darned if I could guess what that is.

I tend to agree with someone who said they're likely 'leftover' from other scans people are doing during the scavenger hunt. Perhaps the devs need to program in a code making it delete those lines after a certain period of time.

pity we cant pick what artefact to hunt for rather then have them allocated randomly or at least exclude items found from the ones that are allocated until you have the accolade, the way it is I wonder if I will ever get the accolade this year.
I have done a considerable amount of searches and only have 4 of the artefact's so far.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

    Markhawkman and lordsteve1,

    Thank you for the maps!!

    Everyone else,

Are there strategies that work the best for knowing which artifact you are being sent to find?

    Thanks again all!!

There is no way to know what artifact spawned as far as I know. You have to retrieve it to see what it is.

I didn't mean to ask which artifact will be at the site, but can one tell after the initial scan which of the sites has the artifact...

Like, I pick up the mission, do my initial scan, and jam on over to the site (using your maps) nearest to where the vector was pointing? My question is, "how accurate is this method?"

    Thanks!
    CM

p.s. after I read my last post, I didn't make it very clear, did I :)

Well, it's actually pretty fast to get an approximate heading then just hit the sites marked on the map in that general direction. Also, that trick for refining your heading works pretty well. If it's a particularly ambiguous heading, transporting to the resort or promenade might give you a better idea where to look.

If you don't mind clarifying, how does transporting to the promenade or the resort help?

    Thanks!

Well, If you take a heading near Qwen's tent it might show the target as being general SW of there. taking another heading from the Resort dock will give you an idea of how far south the artifact is.

Worst is when the heading says it's SE of the tent. half the points on the map are SE of the tent, so getting an idea as to whether it's on the east beach, or island center narrows the search a lot.

I think the basic idea here is "triangulation". And the less precise your way to measure is (and eyeballing it based on lines in the sand and not drawing the results onto a map is imprecise ), the further apart your 3 measurement points are, the better. But of course, flying the whole distance (or surfing) takes time, so beaming is a neat short-cut.

    Clever players.

Honestly, I was actually expecting the system to work by creating random directions and after a certain number of scans, you find your item. That the locations are actually pre-defined is useful to know.

I wonder if they'll use this mechanic on some exploration missions.

Yeah if you take a bearing straight away (and you can be anywhere as you can start the mission away from Qwens tent during the time for extra rewards) then walk or fly 10-20m and take another bearing. That should give you a pretty decent idea of the direction you want to head.
Combined with the map I've found it quite easy to cut down the time taken to find the artefacts.
Once you get familiar with the locations it's gets much easier.

Still can't escape the randomness of the actual object found though.

Still no one found out what the store unlocks are from the Artifact Hunt?
Checked both Zen-Store, Dil-Store, Lobi-Store, Event-Stores... And all of them bring up nothing.
Still need to get the ship and check if its bridge got a unique store on it with things unlocked on it.

I don't know if its significant in any way but you only get the store unlock message when you have found an item from the list in the accolade for the first time on subsequent times of finding the same item you only get the "sun, sand and scavenging complete" message.
this leads me to believe its just something to do with collecting the items for the accolade nothing more.
I may be wrong and hope I am, it would be cool to get a little extra from this event.

the only thing I cant help thinking is if its going to be a accolade you could pick up in years to come as a new player for example it seems strange to link it to the vorgon ship that will only be available this year unless its as previously said that you need the accolade and the ship to unlock whatever it is.

Well the unlock message has been cleared up.

However the "For this event" has me intrigued.

I'm not reading anything into that. I can stop hunting now at 17/20. It was getting very difficult to get new assignments and the last 1 could have been quite frustrating.

I suspect it may have been something that was intended to be included but decided against though I doubt it was anything as grand as a ship, most likely a console or weapon or somesuch item.
it was definitely something for this year IMO being linked to the accolade and SS&S mission.

Probably some bits n pieces from the event store like weapons for the ship?
It's not the first time they've dumped stuff already put into the event, Qwen's tents were there last year already but never used.

half way to the accolade with my main fed having 10/20, only problem is the more you get the less chance there is of getting one you haven't got. :/
