The red lines present a 'cone' to proceed, sort of like a firing arc. I just wish our sensor scans really scanned for stuff we are looking for. Though in the past at one point in the Hunt, proceeding towards the Promenade it can get confused as it may point to a Sand Castle location rather than the next Horga'hn.
Ran it twice yesterday, got the 50 on each. Dance Party is 50 if you complete, otherwise 10, 15, or 25, depending on how many phases you made it through. Horga'hn Hunt is 75 plus the 2-5 you pick up finding each of the 10; so 95-125. Strange that no Bird Eggs did drop during my both runs of the Hunt. Usually, in the first week or so they drop like crazy.
I got an egg in my first set so they're not too hard to get.
But yeah, I've started making a database of possible locations. I don't think they're random.
Would you like us to start posting caps of where, on the map, we find these little hills of dirt to dig for Artifacts? I know how you love making useful maps of locations of useful things on those maps.
Edit - Well, this, at least, should help in the search.
I really hope they refine it, like giving an apx distance to the artifact or narrowing the 'V' of the guide bars as you get closer. Right now this is more annoying than fun.
Yes! Having the V start to narrow as you get closer to the artifact would be a huge improvement to this event

I found that you get a directional tip on the red lines by which side of the line looks "fuzzy"; the sharp edge is the opposite direction from the item you're searching. The cone does narrow as you get closer, but using the line display itself, you get an indication of direction even when it appears they are 180 degrees apart. Follow the "fuzz" toward your artifact!

Ill look for the fuzz but I never saw that cone narrow at all it stayed about 180degrees no matter how close/far I was
I posted this in another thread, but I don't even use the guide arc. I just do it methodically using the Closer/Farther messages.
After you initialize the scanner, move South and scan. If closer, keep going South, if father, go North. If North also comes up farther, it's basically parallel to Qwen's camp. so try going West, then East if that also comes up farther. Keep going in the closer direction, scanning as often as you can until it changes to farther. When it changes to farther, backtrack a bit and turn 90 degrees, try that way, if closer proceed, if farther turn completely around.
Using these as my basic steps and flying with my floater. I'm averaging 4 minutes per hunt, including the time it takes to switch characters. Perhaps I'm just naturally adept at echolocation, though.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.
yeah, the guide are only really gives you a VERY vague direction.
Yup. I'm starting to get good at this. I do three scans right away while still near camp. Each is wide, but if you pay close attention to the red line from each scan, you can get, by the process of elimination, a fairly narrow idea of the direction you most need to go. I fly to the beach nearest where I think I need to go and on my last attempt, I found the artifact in under 12 scan.
One thing I've been trying is wide arc triangulation. it uses the beam to location box to rapidly move you to the other side of the island. Example: start at Qwen's, get a heading, beam to resort, get another heading then look to see where they meet. It won't give the exact position, but it might give a good enough idea to know which specific beach to look on.
Ill look for the fuzz but I never saw that cone narrow at all it stayed about 180degrees no matter how close/far I was
I might have to hike my graphics because at full low it all looks the same to me. Frankly, the cone is annoying as hell and in thick vegetation you can't even see it. Hands down the most annoying game they've come up with, but I have to push on because they attached a 20 step accolade to it.
Note: Have floater handy. You will have to scale walls and cliffs while "following the cone", especially without knowing what is on the other side of vegetation in the jungle areas. LOL! Too funny.
Oh, and when the dialog says "Closer"...it is only a suggestion of the direction you need to go....you may still be acres away from the location.

yeah Im not seeing any 'fuzz' on the bars and they never get closer together
I've gotten two, both Vorgon things (weapons and power) and IIRC they were in the EXACT same location both times...

Tried experiment, it's not one where you can go to a spot and scan to find whatever artifact is there. It's "okay, we picked which one you're gonna see, and that's the only one you'll spawn on this trip..."

It's kind of a "meh" new activity on Risa. Not incredibly different from hunting Horga'hns. Don't get me wrong. I don't miss the boring sandcastle building, however I, like many others, would have preferred a water gun battle or something similar.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.
Bu i do wonder, once we have a map of every location will it be quicker just to zoom round all 20 locations in a superior floater than waste time scanning? Or at least search all locations in the direction your first scan gives?

Yeah, I thought it might be more than one but it's just the fact that Qwen's scanner is broken. The wide angle triangulation technique I use exploits this actually. It's pretty simple take a reading at Qwen's tent to get a heading, then beam to the Resort and take another reading. It doesn't give and exact position, but it will give you an idea s to which beach to look at. If you just follow the scanner you might end up walking all the way across the island.
Here's map i've made based on some locations i've found plus a few others have posted. Thinks there's 14 on here which means 6 are missing?
The stars show the rough location of the artifact, as close as I could get on this image.

Might just be dumb luck. I'll try it again.
