As other users have pointed out, you honestly have no idea what you're talking about. I will take Mac hardware over the alternative ANY day. The OS is so much more stable and I have had one Mac Pro desktop with all original drives, ram, etc for 8 years, in that time I've thrown away 3 windows based computers because they died for one reason or another. Not to mention I run Windows via boot camp and it runs smoother and more glitch free than it ever did on the hardware it was designed to work on, go figure. I use both platforms and like both, but the ignorance and unfounded hate on Apple never ceases to amaze me.
Just popping in to see if we've had any more official responses, yet all I've seen is one comment being moderated. Ah well.
I moved from PC to Mac at home over a decade ago, and have not regretted it. I still don't regret it even with this happening, and I won't be buying (or otherwise obtaining) a copy of Windows to install (even though I know how) because there is nothing realistically possible for anyone to offer me that makes the idea even the least bit attractive. Besides, who's to say if the next thing they stop supporting is whichever version I install, or maybe Intel graphics chips, or on-board sound...
Has anybody seen their Zen refunds yet? I know they've got me listed as a verified Mac user -- I got the Mac giveaway stuff when they got the client working again after New Dawn launch -- but so far, no account balance is displaying on the Arc site (I should have something coming from a purchase I made on 12/26).

Same here. I have almost $400 in Zen purchased since October (well, started in November for the purchases anyway), so I'm waiting to see if I get the whole amount or are they going to make it just one of the purchases.
BTW, Anyone know when those refunds are happening?
I will believe refunds are coming when I see mine credited, and not a moment sooner. Given the way that this business decision was announced (stretching the definition of the word), I suspect we will have to do a complex scavenger hunt using clues hidden inside of crisp packets in order to get our subscription/ZEN refunds. Don't hold your breath.
My subscription refund was processed a couple hours after I posted this message, in an instance of eyebrow-raising swiftness.
I'm not entitled to a LTS refund (Not interested in one as i've had more than enough use out of it), purchased before oct 2015. But was told by support it would be removed unless i opt out which i have. I'm wondering if opting out also opts you out of a Zen refund, would come in real handy to put towards those flagships.
But i seriously doubt any refund is going to be forth coming whilst those new ships are still new. Probably be a month or so before any refunds start to take place.

I did put a ticket in and the response said "Reimbursements will be handled within the coming days and you should see the credits posted to your account balance and credit card for respective purchases. Thank you for your patience."
Now I am going to consider days to mean just that anything over 7 would be considered weeks but thats just me being an TRIBBLE...
Overall I enjoy the game and I am trying to decide how to move forward.... I am truly considering setting up Bootcamp but first I want to see how honest the response I received on my ticket is...
My question is where would I see the balance in my account as Mac users we need to log in via the ARC website not the app
Perhaps, but the security aspect is correct. OS X has little to no advantage over Windows if you do run into a virus - it's just that you're less likely to do so.
Security is usually better on Macs. There is a lot more out there than they used to be. They really gained market share in the past 10 years. Its not only due to low numbers, but their OS is a lot harder to create a virus to infect.
Before and during my cousins time going to college for IT trade. He had a Windows and Mac. He would infect his windows on purpose with all kinds of stuff. So he could debug them and learn how to deal with it. The Mac he couldn't get a single thing on it. Not to mention would do stuff way beyond what I would do. Cause he knew that would be part of his job. Mac's just been harder to "break". And yes they do have antivirus programs for Mac if you want them.
Now on my Windows side, yes I do have antivirus and other measures to protect. Cause that side can be more easily infected, since it is running Windows.
Mac has many advantage over windows, and been the first of many features. Ask any Mac user over the past decade and older, they will tell you. We been using many features that took Windows years to add.

It was over a decade ago. My first computer was a Gateway with XP. It was a good computer for what I was doing with. Then one day it hit. A worm or virus got it. And it basically forced me to reinstall my XP. And I found out it took hours just to do! Then a few months later another reinstall. Cause my computer locked up during defragment for some stupid reason. And I did this often so it was nothing new for me. After that hours was spent again. So I got tired spending my afternoons redoing my computer.
I got a Mac Mini, best thing ever. No more defragment, no more crashes with blue screen of death, no more drivers installation discs just cause I bought a new device to hook up, can upgrade OS with out having to reinstall, and the list goes on. Hands down you can't beat a Mac when it comes to user friendly. Since then I bought a IMac, and 10 years later still going strong enough to play STO and WoW. I have yet to have it in the shop, no crashes or anything major. Apple won me as a customer.
My wife wanted a new laptop, I told her to get a Mac. She wouldn't listen. Now all she does is complain how crappy it is, and been in the shop 3 times over Windows issues and its only like 2-3 years old.

Isn't this forum Arc and logging in at the top right corner was logging into ARC to view the account. I know on Windows, Arc works like Steam but i'm sure you can get all the same info here about you're account. Certainly purchase and billing info ect

You're aware Steve Jobs has been dead for 5 years and therefore isn't really able to influence anything on the physical plane anymore, hmmmmm ... ?
I don't migrate to PC, I use bootcamp. Its no more than just restarting your computer. And give it a few mins. And I'm playing.
Oh yeah, I forgot about Wine. Laughingtrendy even mentioned it, duh . I have no experience with it myself, but if that provides a free transition, great! I'm just curious how complicated/problematic it is, for the non-computer-geeks among us.
Just one note: The current client was using "Cider", which AIUI was basically a pre-packaged version of WINE, so don't expect it to run much better than the existing Mac client or drop off the face of the earth less often.
If a payment was made other than a credit card or Paypal, the value of the subscription will be reimbursed to your Arc Account Balance.
We will be reimbursing any Zen that was purchased through Arc or Steam between October 1, 2015 and today to your Arc Account Balance.
We will be reimbursing the value of any Packs purchased through Arc or Steam between October 1, 2015 and today to your Arc Account Balance.
Ummm ... is anyone at Cryptic aware that you have *no* Mac products in your portfolio anymore? (at least I only see games with a single "Windows" icon on arcgames.com) What would someone spend that refunded Arc balance on if you have no products for Mac users left?
what if you don't want or know how to use wine? what if you don't want to buy a PC? What if you only used a temp CC to pay for things AKA a Christmas gift Card? HMM are they prepared to make those distinctions? PWE is being a little silly when the decided this and sorta kinda hid it then BOOM outta nowhere make an announcement and then Bang its all over to bad so sad thanks for all your Money! its a bit unprofessional and very discourteous to those whom have been loyal to them! and as upsetting as it is we will all move on and hopefully in the future a MAC based MMO for Star Trek will Come around and then PWE will rue the day!
as for me I'm upset as most of us are PWE are AHoles and will likely find them selves with a few clients wanting to sue their asses off then they will really know what it means to LOSE Money

Oh look. The classic "why I switched to Mac" story.
I'll chime in and tell you a severely abridged version of my story. Having owned, used, and built PC's, I can easily say that Macs were never a consideration. In 20 years, I've been wiped out by a virus requiring a complete reinstall once. My most recent build is a $1,500 desktop that outclasses every Mac in existence. Some people like portability and purchase laptops but I prefer the reliability and modularity of desktops
I've heard it all from cousins, aunts, and uncles about how PC's are terrible and Macs are the greatest thing. Yet who do they call to fix the problems that occur on their Macs? Me. And when I fix their problems (usually some trivial issue), all of a sudden I should be "working for NASA." This shows their general lack of understanding about how computers work. This is typical of nearly all Mac users that I personally know. They had problems with their crummy $300 laptops and were surprised to have these same recurring issues on their $1,300 - $2,000 Macs. Little did they know that switching to Mac didn't fix typical problems that clueless users face like "filling up your hard drive and now your computer is slow."
If there are people out there that feel like paying $1,500 for email machines, they should be free to do so. But don't be surprised when you try to pull the Mac superiority card on someone who builds PC's for a living. Your anecdotes about switching to Mac may interest the typical clueless $300 PC Laptop user. But to those of us that know how to properly use and maintain computers, your anecdotes are about as valid and interesting as infomercials for Shamwow.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.
Can any MAC users get on to the C-store? It is disabled for me. This is not good Perfect World. Was considereng buying the FED flagship bundle.
As you can see in the announcement, no Mac user is able to access the C-store. It's gone as they don't want Mac users to spend zen/money only to find out that the client isn't supported any longer. You either have to play through the windows client or you should ask support for a refund as STO on Macs is gone now.

This is good news. There's no need to support an over priced and inferior platform that virtually no one uses.
If you're going to troll, do a better job of it. Apple overtook Microsoft in 2010. Apple's hardware share increased by over 16% in the 2014/2015 fiscal year. OS X is also built on Linux/Unix, which is a staple server OS in many companies.
As for pricing... what you're paying for is corporate quality, and you'd ultimately pay the same price if you bought business level systems from the PC market. There's a reason why your HP laptop cost you $400 at Best Buy.
Virtually no one uses Macs for games is what salazarraze meant, no doubt. Which is true, and as a business decision it makes sense, because now more resources can be devoted elsewhere to money-making activities. To complain about that would be to complain about capitalism in general---which I do, but I'm just sayin' .
If it wasn't for the "inferior" remark, I may be inclined to agree with you, but it was a poor trolling jab at Apple products. No one uses them for games b/c there aren't a lot of games made for the OS X platform. Install Windows on it and the hardware will perform just as well as any custom built PC. It's the same thing for Linux based systems, not a lot of games, but both non-Windows OS platforms are hardly inferior and in some cases superior. The Chrome OS however, that could be considered inferior.
an experience on Mac that meets our expectations of quality
A bar set so low that only Hermes Conrad can limbo underneath it.
In other words, it's too hard and expensive so let's give up.
Just as unhelpful as the anti-Mac bigots posting.
"It's too expensive" IS a good reason for a BUSINESS to stop offering a service. Losing money is BAD for a business. The eventual result of losing money is the business shutting down.
You might want STO to shut down, but if so why are you still here?
You assume it's "too expensive" but working in a software company myself that builds its software for Windows, OS X and Linux, it's not as expensive as you think it is, especially considering that we're connecting to servers to play the game, which means if people know what they're doing, the guest OS connecting to the host system is virtually insignificant.

Sure, it's not that much harder if you're doing it from scratch.
But what if you're not? Do you seriously expect them to rewrite the entire client for a minority population when they're unwilling to even maintain what's apparently a prepackaged Wine port?
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
That's a valid point of view to take, as long as you accept that it's a request for PWE/Cryptic to keep losing money, possibly forever.
Apple has moved away from gaming support not towards it, with newer hardware switching from dedicated graphics to intel integrated in order to offer thinner, lighter laptops. They only seem to care about offering enough graphics power for business type applications and media playback, not for gaming. So I'm not sure the number of Mac gamers would increase much long-term even with an improved Mac client.
I'm not sure what points you're trying to make but your argument is flawed. STO's minimum standards are still sitting at the Windows XP level. The GPU that Apple uses in their laptop line is exactly the same that's used in any of the slim-line PC based laptops. Not to mention that Apple laptops, which were always built to perform video tasks, such as rendering, would also discredit your reasoning. It's as though you've never taken the time to compare an Apple product with any Windows based PC.
Apple uses Intel HD Graphics 5300, Intel HD Graphics 6000, Intel Iris Graphics 6100, Intel Iris Pro Graphics and their 15" MacBook Pro has dual Intel Iris Pro Graphics as well as AMD Radeon R9 M370X with 2GB GDDR5 and automatic graphics switching.
That's just their laptop line, I didn't even touch their All-In-Ones, mini or Pro desktop lines and the Pro line has an optional Dual AMD FirePro D500 GPU with 3GB GDDR5 VRAM each.
Considering the intent of the systems, I'd say that they are more than up to the challenge of mediocre graphics on a host server that caters to Windows XP.
First off, STO is licensed from CBS not Paramount, if it was a Paramount license we could have JJ-verse stuff in game. Secondly, any zen you bought will still be on your account when/if you log in through a PC or windows emulator program on your Mac. Your anger is unneeded.
If you want to get technical about it:
In 2005, Viacom divided into CBS Corporation, whose CBS Television Studios subsidiary retained the Star Trek brand, and Viacom, whose Paramount Pictures subsidiary retained the Star Trek film library and rights to make additional films, along with video distribution rights to the TV series on behalf of CBS.
Anyone experiencing problems with Wine? I have installed it and Arc crashes after I sign in to my account. Is there another program to use which someone can recommend? What about Playonmac?
where can I download the pc client from? so that I can use it on wine.
Just search for Startrekonline.exe launcher. You should get a link. Or go through Arc for the easier way. The .exe is less memory intensive than running Arc.

Well the Windows version is performing about as well as I expected. It gets stuck right at the STO loading screen (just after the Cryptic loading screen) then just sits there like a stoner who's too high to reach for the cupcake on the table. Craptastic.
Anyone experiencing problems with Wine? I have installed it and Arc crashes after I sign in to my account. Is there another program to use which someone can recommend? What about Playonmac?
Someone was able to get it running on PlayonMac, but I haven't had much luck with it. I've loaded it through Parallels, but it's basically diddling itself and not loading properly.
