Not sure if I'd buy it - Grandpa Spyral needs more than five engineering powers, I've discovered - but that looks like a fun ship to build and fly, regardless. I wonder how small its going to make my Excelsior look.
("Remember when the Excelsior was a big ship? Pepperidge Farm remembers.")
nstead dreadnoughts were made obsolete by battlecruisers. Carriers were a surprise in World War II and went on to become the premiere vessel.
The single battle where the Battlecruiser proved its worth was the Falklands, where Fisher's new ships chased down German cruisers. Outside of that, they proved disastrous. See Jutland, Denmark Strait, North Cape.
I'm working on trying to make that a reality. You can stop posting about that.
The thing is the KDF player base have been told that almost exact same thing many times in the past, each and everytime nothing ever came from it.
As you have not been with STO from the start maybe you are unaware of the history of statements like that, but KDF players have come to treat such statements with a hefty pinch of salt, i'm not saying you are not trying your hardest and i really hope you are but untill i see somthing official i will put as much stock in it as i have in previous statements...i know its being pesimistic but with the history the KDF has with Cryptic can you really blame any of us for being that way?
Yes.
I am an official employee who was the major stakeholder in making this campaign a reality, I literally just posted saying I'm trying to make this for KDF and Romulan players, we have a new Executive Producer head honcho in charge, and I just gave you a warning for spamming again about this. So the answer is yes.
Words cannot express my disappointment in this carrier. I've been flying carriers in the game for kdf (and with the feds on the ships that were available) since I was first able to, and I had really high hopes for this ship. I was ready to throw all of my money at this carrier (or pack), but after today's blog I'm not even sure I would consider it. Such a let down. Reminds me of a reskinned tier 6 (barely) atrox. All that waiting to end with a fizzle.
Match the window pattern on the Excel and Excel Refit to the movies and series model before starting work on sci ships for factions that won't bother buying them in the first place. Seriously, who in the name of Laforge is camping out at the tail end of my warp nacelles?
I am a whiny Cardassian, when do I get my hour of complaint?

Turn rate of six degrees? This is not a science ship. And don't insult the players by pretending this Cryptic dev's epic fail is 'community-designed'. This is Cryptic dev's epic fail-designed. The only involvement by the community was to vote on the skin. If this was 'community-designed', it would not have such an EPIC FAIL turn rate. Science Boff skills do not have a 250 degree firing arc, as anyone who has ever played this game knows.
My suggestion is to force Cryptic devs to actually play STO for a change.
Well if its any conciliation the Vo'quv has 5. The Atrox has 5. The Kar'Fi has 8 but its an archaic ship completely outdated.
The lockbox ships do somewhat better, but this is not a lockbox ship. Its stats and pets and seating make it the best carrier by a mile compared to anything else. Oh, and the Romulans? They don't even have a carrier. So when it comes to T6 ships, there is little or no lack of choice playing fed.
so now ive calmed down a bit, time for some constructive criticism ^_^
ok so while i feel carriers could indeed be pretty dam good ships and dish out the pain it is currently ALWAYS going to stumble into one major problem, and thats to do with its primary method of damage application, its fighters,
Currently while they do a decent amount of DPS by themselves the main problem is the surviveability of said fighters with the over saturation of AOE damage ability's like Beam fire at will and of course the bane of ALL fighters regardless if someone is attempting to shoot the fighters down, warpcore breaches that fighters just LOVE to go and take a closer look at. until AI for fighters is improves i can not say i really recommend ANY carriers at all and the turn rate is just way to slow to rely on a lot of sci Boff powers.
aside from the kamakazi fighter problem, as with ALOT of other folks i am totally stumped at the decision to make the ship an Intel spec rather than a command spec, which this ship and its console ability seem to just scream at me although i have a feeling that the T6 oddy will be taking that role in the next load of ships to be released.
PS: why is it whenever we get the reasoning behind why there are so few ships released for KDF and Romulans released THIS sketch always comes to mind.
The single battle where the Battlecruiser proved its worth was the Falklands, where Fisher's new ships chased down German cruisers. Outside of that, they proved disastrous. See Jutland, Denmark Strait, North Cape.
See, I knew I should've named a ship the Goeben. The poor girl gets forgotten so often.
And let's not talk smack on the Hood when there were a few dreadnoughts that took the golden BB as well.
I was thinking that my next two purchases would be the pathfinder and the t6 Sov (whenever it comes out) but now I may have to pick this over the pathfinder. Such a nice looking ship!

Apology in advance for drifting off topic, but respectfully, I don't see their post as "spamming," much less deserving of a warning, in which case all of us who have anything (respectful and following the T&C, unlike a few posts so far excluding the one in question) to say regarding Rom & KDF factions as it relates to the topic (a pretty nice Fed Carrier out of a great event you've made possible) will simply be forced into silence.

I like it, especially the new class of hangar pets, the Callisto light escorts. One question remains though. Why would this craft have warp engines if they are supposed to be launched from a carrier?
Carrier-based fighters and escorts and sometimes Bombers launched from Carriers and often did long distance strikes during World War II, so it's reasonable for the Callisto to be equipped with Warp Engines for long range tactical strikes.
Almost all of the carrier pets have warp engines, just like shuttles and runabouts likely for the same reasons.
The Callistos aren't defiants, but they seem really cool.
I hope the new Jupiter class is the new ship for the TV show.
I have no doubt that a T6 Voq'ue is coming and probably a Romulan verison as well, it just wouldn't make sense otherwise.
Just a thought, but perhaps they haven't announced it yet, because they have a simular pipeline process planned for Voq'ue and Romulan equivilant.
I do hope they have a Klingon verison as I want that trait for my Elite Orion Slavers.
The Jupiter class ship has finally given me a ship worth leveling a fed toon for. It will be my primary fed ship.
It will take me awhile to get it, but it will be worth it.
I think I agree with the folks who say that Command seating would be more appropriate for a carrier than Intel, especially if the area buffs from boff Command skills apply to pets. Along the same lines, I think Insult to Injury granting Suppression Barrage to your pets instead of Transport Warhead would make more sense. I'd rather have a second Lt. Commander (Science?) and spare Ensign universal than all the lieutenant seats, but it looks workable.
I've enjoyed my T6 Escort Carrier 3-pack (so one more sorta-carrier for KDF), and I have to agree that Scratch the Paint should be standard for all pets (of course, the 30 or 60 second cooldown means they'll still be dying a lot on crowded maps). Coordinated Assault with all-cannon light escorts and a slow-turning carrier will be problematic, but that is small matters.
The ship itself looks pretty good, but I'll be holding off until word comes down on carriers for the other factions.
I believe the ship looks beautiful and I'm definitely in the "Take my money" camp. (I would have preferred the close-in nacelles from "Sigma" for a less fragile look.)
I was looking for a Fed T6 replacement for my JHDC. Having frigate pets is great.
What constructive criticism I will add is that I would have preferred a more engineering focused carrier with at least 4 fore 3 aft weapons and more Command than Intel boff setup.
I like Galactica-type heavy capital vessels which broadside heavy beams. (Watched too much Macross anime I guess.)
Also why it turns so slow: it's gigantic. It's the largest Starfleet ship in the game. Carriers in the real world are not known for their agility.
LOL the funny thing in all of this is that in space there is no friction, with the slightest impulse even the biggest ship can turn in a dime.
The key hindrance for any movement and direction change in space is inertia - Friction, Gravity, it's all irrelevant, inertia is where it's at. And inertia comes from mass. Unless the density of your ship is significantly different, bigger also means more mass.
Sure, you could argue the hangar bays also mean a lower density at least when the fighter pets are out, but it stands to reason there is still plenty of "space" left over to make the ship more massive than most.
Of course, you can always put in more powerful engines to make the ship become more agile - but why would you do that on a Carrier? It seems they focused the more powerful engine in the area it matters - the warp engines. I figure Quad nacelles also mean more warp speed. But impulse wise - who cares? The pets can take care of things.
Of course, any Science Vessel pilot will say turn rate is important for an SV, which is why Carriers are their own, seperate thing, even if they have a clear Science focus usually.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
I think I agree with the folks who say that Command seating would be more appropriate for a carrier than Intel, especially if the area buffs from boff Command skills apply to pets.
Now that you mention it, I can kinda scratch my head at Intel over Command. Rally Point is a godsend for pets, and the only carriers with Command are the command cruisers.

LOL the funny thing in all of this is that in space there is no friction, with the slightest impulse even the biggest ship can turn in a dime.
Actually, no. It's still several million metric tons of matter moving forward. There may be no friction, but there is inertia, and if you try to change direction too fast it will sheer itself in half.
I feel, personally, as a "community designed" ship, this should be a free ship, possibly Anniversary or Winter Event, if not an free unlock outright... Also, should have at least 4/3 if not 4/4 weapons slots. And if its meant for fleet support, shouldn't it have command boff slots, not intel?
Also, the KDF and RR need a lot more ship options. Starfleet gets all the love, and I think that is a large factor in why there seems to be fewer KDF and RR players around.
I've actually been trying to design my own "Command Carrier" on paper, for the past year. Designed to be about 1/3 bigger than the Odyssey, but nearly as agile. Its meant to act as flagship for a fleet, coordinating fleet and fighter movements, while also having its own science labs, and the facilities to manufacture large components and perform limited repairs to other vessels. Might sound kind of OP, but its not really meant for in game, just my own enjoyment.
Lt tactical boff seat? LOL. Sorry, boff layout is garbage..will not be buying this ship either. Too bad, was really looking forward to this. Even with the universal LT..still not able to use any lt cmdr tac abilities..ouch. Should have set it up like the Recluse..Commander universal so that any class can really make use of this beast. Good luck!

OR keep it on the topic of the Federation Carrier instead of bringing it off-topic about KDF and Romulan factions. Spamming constitutes off-topic comments and I'm sick of this forum topic having been dragged off into a meta-discussion about the lack of KDF and Romulan ships rather than the one at hand.
Heya Trendy. Let me be the first to say, thanks. I appreciated being able to vote on our new Carrier and happy to know my vote helped bring the Jupiter re-design to the game. I am hopeful that we continue to get more ships, or perhaps you could do this sort of thing more often. I liked it.
federation shipdesign tells any hostile alien that if they take out one of those broomsticks, they can win
now this carrier has 4 broomsticks
( except for Defiant, it is the only ship which look like made for battle and not a broomsticksrack )

Hmm, while that is a nice thought ... see, they are not *wrong* when they say there is less demand. I'm not sure that the whole design competition thing wouldn't be a bit wasteful of Cryptic's resources for a planned Rom/KDF carrier release. I'd rather them just do it than spend that kind of time on it.

Trendy, as a piece of constructive criticism, I would agree that it needs a better weapon layout at T6, and for players to be expected to purchase it. We have quite a few options available now that offer far better weapon layouts with ships, both the Jem'hadar Dreadnought, and the Narcine Carrier both are set with 4/3. The ships do not thus far offer enough damage, (even elite ones) to offset the need for another foreweapon.
Please pass along that it needs the 4/3 weapon setup or a 4/4. Thanks
Bravo on designing another butt ugly ship. No temptation here. No secondary hull, really?
I wanted a Fed carrier that had 4 nacelles, but the attack portion was a full cruiser with its own two nacelles, and it separated from the longer 3rd hull, that would be long like a navy carrier, had its own two nacelles, and acted as a slow moving beam boat pet that deployed the fighters as the player piloted the nimble light cruiser.

I appreciate that. I've got a Romulan I had leveled and prepped just for a carrier as I was thinking there would be a three pack ... Fed contest ship + a Rom + a KDF.
Guessing he'll go into suspended animation til his ride becomes a reality.
HAHAHAHAHA, the flying office building returns.... Seriously that old one would have sufficed if this is where you were steering the community all along.. "choice" or at least its illusion I guess...
The carrier has nice design (which one the players wanted) , realy nice hangar frigates. But i am surprised from boff seatings layout. Cmdr. sci and lt.cmdr. intel? This much more fits to little sneaky ship. I think a StarTrek variant of Battlestar Galactica it should be better cmdr. eng and lt.cmdr. command/tac. Never mind, this certainly find a lot of supporters.
I have to agree with other posters on this one. KDF and Romulan Republic need their own faction specific science alternatives. Otherwise I'm stuck with the Breen Sarr Theln. Not a bad ship but I've never been very good with carriers or hangar pets. As much as I like my Faeht for my Reman and the Qib with my Klingon, science alternatives would still be awesome but given how this game seems slanted toward tac officers and escorts/cruisers that's probably asking too much.
