4) Create Virtual Drive- To do this go to install a program on the main menu, then click on Install a non-listed program
5) Once Virtual Drive has been made, Press Configure on the main menu then click on the Virtual Drive you want to run STO on.
6) Click on the Miscellaneous tab, and click on run an .exe file on this virtual drive.
6) Then in the open a program window, go to desktop, and run the Star Trek Online.exe file, and the launcher should load after several seconds.
7) After loading(see notes below) you may find that it is quite choppy and laggy. To fix this, you need to go to the in game graphics settings, and turn everything to off, low, or minimum, which will make a lot of the lag go away, which makes the game playable. For me at least the picture quality was fine, not too much difference from the normal mac client on max settings.
Notes
1) After launching it will take some time (up to 15 mins) for the game to load, especially on the New Dawn loading page. be patient, it will work, just give it some time.
2) The reason for creating a shortcut to the .exe file is because otherwise when trying to run an .exe file, it is unable to open the STO application, and will not show the package contents, which the .exe file is located in.
3) If the .exe file doesn't work for you, once you have created a virtual drive, you can go to Install a non listed program again, but instead of creating a new virtual drive, click on Edit or Update and existing an existing application and then choose a virtual drive to use. Then when browsing, simply click on the existing STO application. It will have to re=install the application, but the end results for me at least was the same as the .exe file.
uxtheme is an available wine library override, but is not in the existing wine DLL library. I do not have it currently on my existing DLL list atm and it works fine. I may be wrong, anybody else got it?
With the weekend upon us, I suppose that any hopes for a fix are postponed to the next week.
I truly hope that the fix will come within next week at the latest. This is getting rather frustrating.
Every release since Delta has gotten progressively worse for mac users. Some of those Delta issues were NEVER fixed. I guess our money doesn't matter? Surely you can at least see how we have to wonder if that isn't the case sometimes. The very first time I spent money on this game was buying a ship and getting ready for the Delta release and when I got halfway through the first mission it shut down. I've never been able to get my settings back to default, let alone anything above it since. I've had to play with reduced graphics and having to turn the brightness on my screen up to full to play this game ever since. Interesting reward for making the decision to become a paying member of the game community. And its only gotten worse ever since. Is that what I have to keep expecting? Hopefully not, cuz I really like playing the game, somewhat boring grind periods n all. lol
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone
Considering we have lost out on 3 zen ships, a costume sale AND hearts and minds, we better be getting a damn good compensation package for it! Completely unfair to mac users and totally unacceptable to ship a update to the game that actually cripples it to a group of players. This should have either been tested, or have the crippling release delayed until the problem was found and addressed.
Same problem here
Tried PlayOnMac but it works awful on my Mac mini, is totally unplayable.
Im resorting to Boot Camp until they fix it. I hope we could get the ships freebies at least, I wanted the Excelsior so bad!
I got the PC version to run on my 2011 iMac in Parallels 11, but it isn't quite as fast as the Mac app version from what I see. And, I'm too late to get any freebies. Missed it all except the hoverboard is there still. :-/
Hopefully we'll get an update later today. Cryptic is California based IIRC, so it's only 6am over there at the moment.
We can only hope that the Mac Client gets fixed within the week. This is certainly getting rather frustrating...
It's moments like these where I'd appreciate some front-faced honesty to have a gamedev or admin say "Sorry guys, there appears to be a real big issue and we're having a hard time dealing with it". Learn to PR.
My goal is to build the strongest ship in the federation fleet
As you are aware, Star Trek Online: Season 11 - New Dawn launched with an issue that is currently preventing Mac users from logging into the game. We have stated on Twitter that the team is still looking into what are causing the issues. Although we haven't pinpointed any exact details on the cause, we are still very aware of the issues that players are facing and are working to get you back into the game.
We are also aware that not logging in prevented players from receiving the launch promotion. Our team is discussing what we can potentially do about that as well.
As always, we appreciate the feedback of the community and are working towards creating a positive gaming experience for you all.

At this point, I could care less about the freebies and sales we've missed out on. I just want to be able to log in
Sorry, but I still have no updated information about the ongoing Mac issue at this time. This issue is presenting itself as much more difficult to diagnose and resolve than initially anticipated. We hope to have more information for you soon, and we thank you for your patience as we continue to try to get all of our Mac users back on the bridge.
Going into a week with a broken client, I'm really going to want some more answers when this is all over:
- How did this happen? I don't need technical details on what was broken, but I'd like to know what went wrong in the QA process so that we got to S11 release with this problem apparently undetected, let alone diagnosed and fixed.
- What's being changed in the QA process to ensure that problems like this are caught before release in the future?
- Does Cryptic/PW have the expertise, in-house or contracted, to maintain and support the Mac client?
- If not, can we expect that to change?
I'm not looking to catch anybody in a "gotcha" here. I want to understand what happened and what steps are being taken to do better in the future so that I can feel confident about any future spending on zen purchases.
another promotion going up that will be missed. at this point that equates to anywhere between 3315-7315zen of freebies we have missed depending on characters. i get the problem is ongoing and we may be expected to wait for a fix, thats fine... I'm not going anywhere...but running so many rewards we can't claim? thats just such a slap in the face to mac users.
Can we get some assurance that we are going to be compensated properly here? i sink hard earned money into this game. and its completely gutting to see people like myself who pay, frozen out while everyone else reaps freebies, and no certainty that later down the line when the game is fixed its not going to be a message like 'well it was free.... so tough...u'll have to pay for them now'.
Absolutely inappropriate and a big FU to MAC users running another promotion whilst many users cannot get into the game for no fault of their own.
It really feels like being given the finger. Yeah sure i'm in using the MAC wrapper but its a lessened experience due to having to play on such low graphics and settings. Heavily populated combat maps are a no go.
Just adding my voice here...another Mac user who cannot enjoy the game I've invested in for years. STO has been the primary source of my Trek entertainment for a long time and it's really a bummer knowing we're all missing the new content, ships and yet another giveaway. I think we deserve some regular updates as part of the STO community...I hope we have not been forgotten.

This worked quite well for me, managed to do the new FE and the carotin missions. Hope it will work for all.

EMERGENCY FIX DETAILS-
Please note: TO BE APPLIED AT THE USERS OWN RISK, I am not a computer expert.
1) GO to the existing STO application, and show package contents.
2) Create a shortcut on the desktop of the Star Trek Online.exe file, which can be found by clicking on these folders in order ;
contents, resources, transgaming, c_drive, StarTrekOnline, and in the last file, the .exe program should be at the bottom of the folder.
3) Install PlayonMac- https://www.playonmac.com/en/ free program that uses Wine wrapper to run windows apps on mac
In the meantime I managed to log back on via this method: http://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1206214/s11-troubles-heres-a-band-aid#latest
It's not nearly as good as the official client, but I can at least do doffing/admiralty/exchange etc.
Being able to play properly again via the official client would be lovely...
