Went for Alpha first time and this time, though my final vote goes to Omega. I only hope this is a tac-oriented carrier so all my hype isnt for nothing haha
Tac Focused (at least LtCom Tac, with 3 Tac Consoles and maybe a fourth one on the Fleet Version) AND it has to has the ability to launch Frigattes, be it Defiant Frigattes, Saber, Aquarius or a New Type of Frigatte dont want another Carrier / Escort Carrier that only can launch squishy Fighters, If any of those are missing than i pass on it.
I'd be happy with something like 4 tac, 3 eng and 3 sci, and a boff layout similar to the JHDC (boy do I want that ship soooo much! I have 150 lobi, so I'm getting there
These are both really nice designs... It'd be easier to vote if I had some idea of what kind of boff seating the ships will have, since Alpha looks more science-oriented (even has the Nebula mission pod, like Delta, which was my first choice), while Gamma looks more tactical-oriented with those sharper edges and more claw-like nacelles. I know the Atrox has a heavy science focus already, so I imagine this new carrier will go in a bit of a different direction, though that will depend on which specialization it gets I guess.
Even though I expect Epsilon to lose to Omega, and Alpha and Omega have many similarities, making me want to vote Gamma, I'll have to just go on aesthetics and choose Alpha. It's very well-designed, looks very large regardless of what it's size will end up being, and has all the features I'd expect of traditional Federation starship design: Smooth curves, high-quality engineering, imposing but diplomatic at the same time.
Alpha is the best of the lot... while gamma is second best and deserves a ship of it's own.
If they are stuck on making this a traditional carrier (yuck) then please use gamma for the missing fed battle-carrier (see my post last week "Carrier Concepts" in general discussion for a battle-carrier design).
Hi, Jeb from Florida here. I'd like a recount. I didn't get a chance to vote...
Sorry, no recounts unless the winner's lead is within the margin of error.

Speaking of which, there's some guy named Jimmy Carter here, says he's supposed to monitor the voting?

Going out on a limb here, but I really strongly suspect that we are voting on appearance only...the stats will be the same regardless of which appearance wins this contest....but i could be wrong

I don't think it could be anything else. We haven't been told what the stats will be on the finished ship so appearance is the only thing we could be voting on.
I expect the Omega will ultimately be the final design here, it clearly seems to be the direction we are going, but I do like the idea of that pod, flying bridge or whatever it is on the Alpha and I still wish they could get rid of the different sized warp nacelles, or at least give us customization options that allow us to choose if we want different sized engines.
The next round is going to be between the Omega and the Epsilon and I just can't see a design that looks so much like a Multi Vector Assault Escort being a contender.
I haven't seen trendy chime in on the matter, though it's been brought up. The timeline for the competition says "design," "build," "model." Well after the design phase it should go straight to modeling from what I understand, unless there's going to be some phase in which the selected design is tweaked a bit or something. So that "build" phase may be where we get to vote on the "build" of the ship, i.e. the stats/boff layout.
I know some are wanting an eng heavy carrier, some want a tactical heavy carrier, but I really hope we get/get the chance to vote on a well balanced design. I don't want to end up stuck too heavily into one thing or another, and I have come to rather enjoy science lately, so I would like the traditionally sci primary carrier, just so long as it has enough tac and eng to not suffer from crippling overspecialization.
I think the perfect design would be for both the voquv and this fed carrier to end up with a lt.com in tac, eng, and sci, and then have a universal commander so we could specialize into what we want. But I'm guessing that's too good to be true and would likely kill every other carrier in the game... but I can dream...
Alternatively it could keep the traditional carrier sci commander and let that lt.com sci be universal. Could still be considered a other-carrier-killer, but I think would put it in line with the patrol escort refit. If they feel that's too much lt.com on one ship, at least make the lt. sci from the voquv build we might end up with universal, as well as the inevitable ensign that would be tacked on to get it to t6 level boff slots. Still sci dominant but reasonably flexible. And why not make this carrier as versatile as possible? Sure there are lobi carriers, but most don't/won't have those, and unless the devs start churning out carriers like they do other ships, this may be one of the very few carriers we ever get, so at least let it be flexible. You hear me devs? Let this carrier to free to choose what it wants to be when it grows up!
All of this aside, I am curious if this fed carrier might end up with a karfi type layout since the atrox is so close to the voquv, this ship could be the federation's answer to the karfi. But that all depends on if the devs plan on resurrecting the atrox at t6. They may think that a true fed carrier will kill the atrox in general and just phase it out, or they could even give this true fed carrier and the klingon carrier parity and move the atrox to be the competition with the karfi.
The Nebula-configured Odyssey needs to be a thing.
Gamma makes me think they took the saucer of the NX-01 and filled it like a balloon, but left the original nacelles on rhe bottom. Im #TeamAlpha this round...but I really like Epsilon.
The one thing I've learned from this whole contest is that my personal tastes definitely differ from the majority. Every ship I've voted for lost haha.
Sleek is not as good a functionality when talking carriers. The Gamma allows for a wider placement of weapons to defend the fighters and a wider hanger for better deployment and landing. When in an emergency (evacuation or combat) situation the wider bay allows for quicker transition, rearm, load/unload, without blocking in and outbound traffic. The wider body and nacelles allows for better placement of weapons for close cover and less engine wash for fighter/shuttle traffic at higher speeds.

I'm just guessing here but there are 3 phases here; design, build, model. We're currently in design mode, the winning ship will then go to the modelers to get modeled. While they are coming up with model options we'll be bracketing the build of the ship. To me, that means the weapons, hangers, console and BOff layouts, all of the ships stats basically. Once that's done we'll move into the model phase, which is voting on tweaks and options to the model of the ship.

Can you vote for Omega then please
Why should he break his steak? You already know Omega will win the next round and will likely beat Alpha.

How does the shape of the vessel determine the best possible placement for weapons?
In STO, firing arc is determined by the type of weapon, not the ship's class or shape.
And..Engine wash? I don't think that's really an issue...The ion trail left behind by a Federation vessel does not really affect the performance of another ship.
Gamma, we have tons of ships that look like Alpha, and Gamma actually looks beefy enough for a carrier
Sure ou picked the right ship? THe Gamma is basically a Quad Nacelle Nova with the saucer also stealing from the Akira. That's not a bad thing, but doesn't really fit your description.
The Alpha on the other hand - it has that little roll bar / sensor dome / star destroyer bridge thing on top, and I think that is pretty unusual.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
It's amazing... one set of people say a design 'looks like everything else already in the game', another set says 'it doesn't look anything like that faction's ships'... and they're talking about the same design.
I'm not sure rather to propose the final result of this experiment to be the Rashomon-class Carrier after the classic Japanese movie involving one event from multiple points-of-view or if it should be the Camel-class because of the old saying that "a camel is a horse designed by a committee"...

They do both look like Starfleet ships, though I am no fan of quad warp monohulls, my preferred choice is still the Beta.
I chose the Alpha because it looks like it could be a carrier, it has obvious bay door openings on the sides of a bulky looking saucer. This gives the visual impression that it could house a cavernous hanger deck as well as considerable internal volume for carrier related activity, the pod could function as a control tower. The Gamma however just looks like another Quad warp cruiser with two bay doors on the hood.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.
You see they should have done the same perspective for all the ships, they are using now, Alpha rules, I love the tower on the top back side, nice indeed.
