The one thing I've learned from this whole contest is that my personal tastes definitely differ from the majority. Every ship I've voted for lost haha.

I voted team alpha, but yeah, this new art really did give gamma the fighting chance for my vote that it certainly would not have had from the original concept.

I think it's interesting that gamma seems like a throwback to the nx-01 while alpha looks like it has elements of the enterprise J in it what with that deflector

At the end of the competition, ya'll should post the high res art for all of the contenders so we can really see what we missed out on, you know, a little salt in the wound... just for fun.
The concept artist actually worked on the semi-finalists progressively as they were being determined. It takes a while for them to flesh out full concept art like this, so I've only been able to get 4 of the semi-finalists instead of 8. That way we can have more fleshed out ships and they can still dedicate their concept artist to things such as working on what will be new models, environments, etc.

Wow very nice seeing them rendered with a bit more detail.

I'm going to flat out say it: I vote for #TeamAlpha. I originally liked Gamma more, but after seeing Hector Ortiz's render of the Alpha, it much more fits my vision of what I think the ship should look like.

If Gamma doesn't win, I will support Alpha in the final showdown, but for now, Gamma, baby, yeah!

To be quite honest Trendy, you should of seen if all 8 could of been done ahead of time. If you want the community involved in a promotion like this, you should make sure the community can make reasonable critiques and decisions.

While Alpha does have the better design, I still don't get why they don't just add all of them in for one ship. Even from a business stand point that makes sense: add more designs people like to a ship, the better it'll sell...maybe (depending on BOFF layout too).

Alpha again for "form follows function", but Omega ftw in the end.

Both are nice looking, ups to the designers. But for me, Alpha takes in with the con tower /mission pod and the side bays. I echo what someone said earlier about Gamma and missing the landing and hitting the bridge. Or, stalling on take off and getting run over by the carrier.

You know, after looking at that art, as much as I liked Alpha when voting started, I find myself preferring the overall shape and styling of Gamma.

I do like how Alpha has those side hangar bays on the saucer, though, really sells it on being a carrier.

    Not to mention it avoids the following scenario;

Captain: Tactical, ready High Yield Torpedo with 'Overwhelming Force' and fire!
Tactical: We can't fire! The hanger bays are still launching and if we fire, we might hit one of our own fighters!
Captain: Tell them to get out of the way!
Tactical: They're trying, sir, but the hanger pet A.I. is suicidal - just wait until an enemy has a core breach and they all go up with it.
Captain: Blast! Who came up with the idea of launching fighters right into the ship's field of fire?
Tactical: Captain... the timer for High Yield Torpedo has ended, we'll have to reactivate the ability and try again.
Science: Incoming 'One Hit Kill' attack from enemy ship, Captain!
game message: Defeated! Respawn in 10 seconds.
Player: Blast! I should have voted for Alpha design, then the fighters could have veered off to the sides as soon as they launched and left my field of fire clear...

The additional perspectives and the knowledge that the white "strips" were the launch bays really made a difference in how I felt about these ships.

I very nearly chose Gamma, but the short, stubby nacelles on the top and something about the hull configuration under the saucer left me wanting. Had the configuration been switched around a little, with the longer nacelles on top, I might well have voted that way. It had a NX kind of feel to it that I liked.

But Alpha's nacelle configuration, the mission pod on top, and the placement of the launch bays sold me on it. I look forward to seeing this pitted against Omega. May the best design win.

Side by side, the Gamma looks much more like it would be a carrier. Sorry Alphas, originally I was going to side with you, but the new art just shows Gamma in much better light.

I thought when this round started I was going to vote Gamma, no contest. But with the new art, my vote was definitely less certain. There are aspects of both ships I like and nothing in particular I dislike. I still ended up voting for Gamma, I think I liked that it was more distinctly its own design rather than being really similar to existing designs, especially with the Saucer, but honestly I like both ships.

At this point to be honest, I'm just voting for anything that doesn't resemble the Jupiter. The loss of Sigma already shattered my dreams anyways. Argh. PLEASE no Jupiter. I'd rather have a Galaxy class that flies sideways...
    Say NO to team Omega.

I have no idea how Omega wasn't on the Final Round. It was the best out of all choices in my opinion. But between Alpha and Gamma, I think Alpha is better.

OK, I'm big enough to admit when I'm wrong....

....I've been whining ever since the contest started that these designs all suck, based on the top & side profiles we were given. I'd complain every time I voted that they need to give us more options, or better designs to choose from, & my vote (like many players who also voiced similar concerns) was more about mitigating damage & choosing the least-offensive of the bad designs.

With the inclusion of these 3D profile shots, it's easier to see final product, & the designs are better than we initially thought. I apologize to the devs & to the designers for my soapbox diatribe.

Although I still think that the designs are still a little too generic & that the designers really missed a chance to get more creative & give us something really unique, I actually like the designs that are being presented more than I initially did, & I'm starting to get more excited about this carrier when it comes out.

I voted for Gamma. I don't much like Alpha's elongated, fat saucer-hull. Besides having a somewhat different Nacelle layout (I can't think of any other 4-nacelle ships in Star Trek that are arranged side-by-side like this), I think that Gamma's hull design could make for a good carrier (assuming the ship is a frikkin' giant), which has a little more flexibility in how it "feels" for being a Tactical/Engineering/Science oriented vessel.

Having said that, I kinda agree with Danpmk a bit:

These are both really nice designs... It'd be easier to vote if I had some idea of what kind of boff seating the ships will have, since Alpha looks more science-oriented (even has the Nebula mission pod, like Delta, which was my first choice), while Gamma looks more tactical-oriented with those sharper edges and more claw-like nacelles.

I think, & I hope, that the designs should give us a few more 'kitbash' options with this ship, regardless of the overall winner, & it should include options like a "mission pod" for the top hull, nacelle arrangement variations (I personally like the look of the Command Cruisers/Hestia Escort's quad-nacelles arranged on top of each other like a single pair of extra-large nacelles), maybe even hanger bay arrangement variations.

Starting to look forward to seeing the winning design now.

I'm voted Team Gamma. Looking here it appears that my taste in starship design is slightly different from the majority around here.

I like Gamma's saucer details much better. I don't actually see the launch and recovery areas on Alpha, whereas Gamma I can clearly scope out where everything is and what works. I'm not a fan of the different nacelle sizes in any of these.

I do like Alpha's mission pod/control tower that looks great. Overall putting these two together would be the best for me. Gamma's saucer and stardrive and Alpha's beautiful nacelles.

Alpha looks nice..Great form in the artwork..and different enough to be a keeper.

I love the saucer design on the Gamma, however the deflector array just seems too chunky and out of place. Looks like a glorified Nova. :# Even though I voted for Gamma last round...

    Going with Alpha.

EDIT: To be quite honest, if these high-rez displays had been shown in the first-round of voting, I think the outcome might have been slightly different. I feel that Beta could have had a decent chance of outshining Alpha with its presence.

My interpretation is that that's not a secondary deflector but the forward flight deck doors

We'd probably get more of that if they were gonna do a three-pack. Remember all of the customization that came with the command ships.

This seems to be looking at a stand alone. Though don't be surprised if they show up later as other ships.

It dawns on me that the Jupiter thing is curiously erroneous. The Jupiter class is a Dreadnought, not a carrier. Why it's suddenly being inserted as a carrier is beyond me. Not that it doesn't have the physical size to serve the role, it's just not it was originally introduced as.

Your scenario would be far more valid if the primary mode of weapons attack for ships of this size wasn't the broadside. :| It's even visible in Gamma's design, the bow is dominated by the Navigational Deflector and the Hangar bay, with the weapons literally placed off to the sides, in the style of the Intrepid.

Considering the technology of phaser banks allowing for near omni-directional fire, and the fact that one of the most popular methods of fighters to attack capitol ships is via swarm tactics sticking close in the fighters are going to be dealing with friendly fire no matter what. This is why FTL fire control is so important.

And from someone who served on a carrier, in any true carrier, the flight wing IS the primary weapon.

Hoping they add in a hull design that has the nacelles built into the hull itself, ala Defiant or the Carrier from Star Trek Invasion. So far the only good looking ones are the Alpha, Epsilon, and Sigma, but the Sigma has been voted out. I really want it to resemble a true Federation Carrier.

Too many of the other designs still resembles a Cruiser, :(
