After seeing the 3d view, all I can say is.. Meh... :/ Both are kinda uninspiring. The saucers on both seem more soft and rounded than I was expecting. I was seeing them in my mind with more of a bold look and modern ship angles.

Gonna go with #TeamGamma on this one.

(...) I am however aware that STO is a game, not the real world, so applying correct naval terms is not necessarily a high priority unto itself. Also slightly off topic.)

STO is also set in the Star Trek universe, and star Trek doesn't care about real world military but has it's own terms. In Treknobabble, a "frigate" is a ship which's primary function is escort and defense, it doesn't reflect the size. For instance, canonically the New Orleans Class is a frigate ( http://en.memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Frigate ) - it's never a good way to open a Star Trek argument with "in the navy..."
    lFC4bt2.gif
^ Memory Alpha.org is not canon. It's a open wiki with arbitrary rules. Only what can be cited from an episode is. ^
"No. Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects... and claw at you." -Worf, son of Mogh
"A filthy, mangy beast, but in its bony breast beat the heart of a warrior" - "faithful" (...) "but ever-ready to follow the call of the wild." - Martok, about a Targ
"That pig smelled horrid. A sweet-sour, extremely pungent odor. I showered and showered, and it took me a week to get rid of it!" - Robert Justman, appreciating Emmy-Lou

LOL, I always pick the loosing ship...so there is still hope we won't get that Jupiter clone...I will vote for that !

Now I've Heard that a few people have an issue with the "Jupiter" type design. What is the problem with it?

I've got no dog in the fight, just wondering where the common distaste comes from.

There is always someone that dislikes a popular idea. Don't overrate it, and in the end everyone is entitled to his own opinion.

The Jupiter Dreadnought always looked like something that could be a Carrier, but was not actually one mechanically, and it was also never playable. And it was also always ugly.
But the Omega could fix it all - make it beauitful, make it be a carrier, make it playable.

But some people might still dislike the general idea of a saucer that is very high, rather than flat, some people don't like quad-nacelle ships, some people don't like quad nacelle ships with nacelles with different sizes...

You think ALPHA looks like a vacuum? I was thinking GAMMA looks like a vacuum just the other day but chose not to belittle it. Something about that triangular shape coming down the nose plus the lights of the hangars look perfect for seeing the dirt in your path and to make sure you don't suck up a tack or something.

Tac Focused (at least LtCom Tac, with 3 Tac Consoles and maybe a fourth one on the Fleet Version) AND it has to has the ability to launch Frigattes, be it Defiant Frigattes, Saber, Aquarius or a New Type of Frigatte dont want another Carrier / Escort Carrier that only can launch squishy Fighters, If any of those are missing than i pass on it.

I like the saucer section and general design of the Alpha, but I do like the nacelles on the Gamma.

These are both really nice designs... It'd be easier to vote if I had some idea of what kind of boff seating the ships will have, since Alpha looks more science-oriented (even has the Nebula mission pod, like Delta, which was my first choice), while Gamma looks more tactical-oriented with those sharper edges and more claw-like nacelles. I know the Atrox has a heavy science focus already, so I imagine this new carrier will go in a bit of a different direction, though that will depend on which specialization it gets I guess.

Even though I expect Epsilon to lose to Omega, and Alpha and Omega have many similarities, making me want to vote Gamma, I'll have to just go on aesthetics and choose Alpha. It's very well-designed, looks very large regardless of what it's size will end up being, and has all the features I'd expect of traditional Federation starship design: Smooth curves, high-quality engineering, imposing but diplomatic at the same time.

True, most of the carriers have been science heavy and they have one tactical carrier now. I'm hoping for an engineer heavy carrier--it could offer real support for it's fighters.

I'm going to flat out say it: I vote for #TeamAlpha. I originally liked Gamma more, but after seeing Hector Ortiz's render of the Alpha, it much more fits my vision of what I think the ship should look like.

    Me too trendy. :)
I still dream from time to time about using the Gateway to doff off-game in spare minutes as we were told

no thx, we dont need any HEAVY Focused ship (Old Galaxy Dreadnought was ENG Heavy and most People inlcuding me were NOT Happy with that, New Galaxy Dreadnought (yamato) is not ENG Heavy but more balanced towards more Offensive and People -again- including me LOVE IT. It should be balanced, means should have enough "biteforce" but also able to survive some serious Punishment, so like i said before an LtCom Tac + 3 Tac Consoles and maybe be Fourth one on the Fleet Version is what it should have together with Frigatte Pets for it. Should this thing have something like Comm Eng, LtComEng AND EnsENG than, they can SO keep it, and i bet iam not the only one who thinks that way.

I like the sleek look of Alpha and the pod on top is a nice detail. Gamma looks sort of fractured, with too many cut-outs. Can't wait what the artists prepare for Epsilon vs. Jupi...Omega

#TeamGamma because of the nacelle layout. basically. The saucer is too darned big on Alpha.

If the recent Hestia adjustment is any sign, they seem to be listening to the voice of the players and moving away from Career-specific Ensign slots on higher tier ships. There's still some T6 ships with Ensign Tac or Ensign Eng, but more and more seem to be coming with Ensign Uni (and some of those with Career-specific Ensign slots have higher rank Uni slots)...

^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...

to be honest, i though that this 3 of the same Stations nonsense on a Ship was a thing of the Past and that they are "fixing" older ships that have those type of Stations with the newer T6 Versions of them, thats why i was so Confused and angry that they did that same Trash on a BRAND new T6 Ship (Hestia), but Mirracles happen and they really listened a LITTLE bit and changed its Ens Tac to a Uni...good thing yet still to many bad things on the Hestia that keep me from buying it, but still a good move. Lets hope that at least from NOW on, they will avoid that nonsense.

It shouldn't be too hard to see that we are being steered toward choosing a ship that follows a specific shape. The poor detail of early drawings as well as the pairing of a good design with an inferior one in these selections, makes it apparent what's happening. In the end, both the Alpha and the Omega have designs that are very close in general layout with minor differences in details, the alternatives either don't look very good or don't look like they would fit the role of a carrier.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.

I don't think it could be anything else. We haven't been told what the stats will be on the finished ship so appearance is the only thing we could be voting on.
I expect the Omega will ultimately be the final design here, it clearly seems to be the direction we are going, but I do like the idea of that pod, flying bridge or whatever it is on the Alpha and I still wish they could get rid of the different sized warp nacelles, or at least give us customization options that allow us to choose if we want different sized engines.
The next round is going to be between the Omega and the Epsilon and I just can't see a design that looks so much like a Multi Vector Assault Escort being a contender.
