Catstar is one of the resident known personalities here on the forums. He's having fun, and this poll was made in Ten Forward. We all know Cryptic won't actually do it, but its one of those fun things to see what people would say.
Catstar is one of the resident self-important furries here in the forum. This poll was made in a public place were it is readily ridiculed. Cryptic doesn't actually care we exist, but we wish someone did and hoped to see what people would say about us existing, except we don't like what they have to say.
Fixed that for you.

All I remember of the guy is, didn't that guy make an I Quit post a year or so ago?
He's already admitted his fanfic got rejected by CBS, so this smacks of yet another desperate cry for attention, since the CBS route failed, he's made a poll centered around his author-avatar.

Now that's twisting my words to prove your point, which is not my intention at all, which is showing a lack of respect for anyone who doesn't see things your way.
50 years ago, if you made funny faces on tv people would tune in every week....stuff like Cat Trek and Detective Comicals would have been a success during that generation. Now it seems, unless your able to add in busty bikini clad characters, doing things id rather not say, while engaging in constant fighting and anger filled personalities (wrestling/reality tv/shooter games/mature themed stuff) no ones satisfied.
I missed the generation i could relate with... =U.U=
I don't think it's that bad. There's plenty of good stuff out there, and some of it is very successful. Take, for instance, How to Train Your Dragon: it's a children's story, involves no gratuitous violence or scantily-claddedness, and is all about making peace. It is very, very popular amongst children and adults because it has a compelling, sophisticated story that resonates with us--much more than the simple, formulaic stuff of, say, old Detective Comics.
Meanwhile, media corporations, in their mad dash to compete, push out as much stuff as they can, and most of it is junk because most of everything is junk. But even they can put out some worthwhile stuff now and then.
And then there's the rise of indie artists: individuals or small studios unconstrained by corporate supervision, which harness the power of the internet to create and publish material that is sometimes much more meaningful or otherwise higher quality than what their shackled corporate counterparts release.
And believe me, old works were not immune to gratuitous sex or violence, because it's always been cheap way to attract attention. The censors just kept them on a much, much shorter leash. The old movies we remember are the ones of unusually high (or poor) quality: things like Gone with the Wind, Forbidden Planet, etc. They were the How to Train Your Dragons of their age.
If your work has not been noticed, it's not because the audience is only scintillated by crappy entertainment--it's because there's just so much stuff out there (good and bad) that the people who would appreciate your work haven't found it.
I bought all of his fan fic and enjoyed them, he has been a friend and an inspiration to my own writing so I stand with the Cat. Also people who always shout down their detractors are bullies and trolls
Okay. I'll bite. Because the only other NPC Federation Caitian I know of has almost no taste for exploration and would rather man a terminal within Earth Space Dock...
*sings* "I like Gammera! He's so neat!!! He is full of turtle meat!!!"
"Hah! You are doomed! You're only armed with that pathetic excuse for a musical instrument!!!" *the Savage Beast moments before Lonnehart the Bard used music to soothe him... then beat him to death with his Fat Lute*

Except for in the 1920s. I was actually kind of floored at what was allowed to be on screen in Metropolis, which only 10 or 20 years later, would be firmly disallowed and stay that way for a long time. It is a good movie, but I didn't really get just how uninhibited the Roaring Twenties were until I saw it.

Like I said, I would try it at least once rather than assuming I'd dislike it. The Foundry is the right place for people's personal characters, pet plotlines, etc. Or of course fanfic posts.
Truthfully, unofficial status would make me more likely to respond well to it, whereas having it forced into official status would probably make me "rebel" in terms of how I felt about it. Even with the Peter David example, where I know I dislike it, I might not have as harsh of an attitude towards it if it had just been fanfic as opposed to being canonized.

Y'see, this right here seems like an act of self aggrandisement. With a medium that is purely text it's impossible to tell if such a comparison is in jest or a genuine self identification with a recognised "literary great".
You may be a passable writer, but you're not all that.
why should another players character be immortalized on sto for over the thousands of other players? it should not. now if cryptic decide to try that route then everyone including their brother and dog would want to be an npc and that i can never see happening.
you want your character immortalized keep it on the foundry where it belongs. as far from sto canon as possible.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
I voted no because I have not heard of this person, but if players are going to be added to NPCs for the foundry, I got a list of players I would love to see in the game for the sole purpose of shooting said player NPC.
Disagreeing doesn't imply stupidity. Or being a jerk, for that matter. As I've said, there are perfectly appropriate media provided within the game and here on the forum (Foundry, Ten Forward) to develop one's characters, and I would not be averse to seeing the CatStar character in those venues.

yeah, you would think i was running for a political office on a side unfavored by media the way they are carrying on....when i started this poll i kinda expected ether a "yes, i enjoyed that character it might be nice to see him in a mission" or "im not sure he would work out in the game, so no" my target was people who where familiar with it when the anger began about it i tried to show examples of famous people who had it rough while getting started but still ended up making it...i wasnt trying to say i was great, i was showing even people who did make had the same trolls and critics after them. My favorite example is George Lopez when he told his family he wanted to become a comedian, they responded "a comedian, how freak'n funny are you?!"
id actually had a request by someone to write more for catstar, i was going to see if there was still a fan base for him, for the time it would take to make another book. i never picked up on foundry i wouldnt have the patience to work out the mechanics, and the errol flynn era fan base has passed so i think ill stick with writing science articles, catstar isnt an anti hero and i wont ruin him to fit the times like they did superman (and no im not comparing him to superman!!)

Might you consider collaborating with one of the folks at Starbase UGC or other Foundry forums, to have your stories brought to life in the Foundry? A sort of writer-producer team is not out of the question IMO. If there is someone you trust who works a lot with the Foundry, maybe you could start with PMing or emailing that person.
BTW, I think I've answered the "antihero" question above.

wanna translate that? it looks like a long winded way of insulting others for their own opinions that confilct against you not wanting to accept your exactly on the same catnip pole as everyone else.. no more or less important then anyone else.
oddly enough you gotta know that if you think your more special then any of the other authors or other characters on this forum and perhaps elsewhere and you deliberately setup a poll knowing what the answer is from the start and you lured people into it, that is called trolling. the critic in me sees this more then anything your supposed reasons can ever provide.
you will not be able to convince me from my position because as i see it your suggestion comes off as highly arrogant and unbecoming of someone who is looking to rally support. when you start getting defensive in your arguements is the moment you lost any hope of salvaging your attemps at it. again the critic in me sees that if you think about how to use what i wrote and think about your delivery and what you can do to improve.. but why should i be telling you? you got a brain, right? use it.

That's uncalled for...
And this poll is?

Since when was Congress poking around the STO forums?
Given some of the geniuses I see post on the STO forums, it would not surprise me.
If we could +1 posts, I would +1 you right now iconians!
