As an interesting aside observation, I had a look at the DPS league table here and saw that out of the top 100 spots, only 8 have a date of 1st May or onwards. I know May hasn't been on for very long, but since late April we have had some nice DPS goodies thrown at us in the lockbox, rep, and new ships, and it seems few people are able to take advantage of this because of the lag normalising any increase over past performance!
The vast majority of entries are from March, back when the lag was not yet so bad.
You are hereby accused of semantic pedantry. Go home.
Sorry for the delay responding since I only get a few breaks at work to do so.
Now since you have accused me of a few things I thought I would address your charges:
Deceitful: Where did I lie? I have defended a poster's statement and he has agreed with my assessment.
Ignorant: As I have been discussing a forum post please enlighten me on the failure of my knowledge of what I spoke on?
Denier: Sadly I am going to have to ask for clarification as I do not see it.
Distasteful: Taste is in the mind of the beholder. And is an indefensible accusation that can be easily redirected back at an accuser. I request you remove this charge.
Semantic Pedantry: Based on the meaning of the phrase which would indicate I wish for words and phrases to mean what they say? Guilty.
Sadly my employer does not accept your verdict and I must return to work.

Anyway, do continue.
I was rubberbanding the whole time in every fleet.
We have 2015 and you guys have ping problems like i haven't seen in 10 years.
Seriously you have TRIBBLE servers and don´t want to pay for new ones.
I don´t want to know how mutch money flows into STO every day and you can´t even afford a lagfree game?
This combined with youre greed is why nobody likes craptic anymore!
I'm sorry to hear that you are still having problems, but look on the bright side. It's not a problem that is affecting other players. If it were there'd be dozens of angry threads made by other players on the forums instead of just your threads.

Launcher is dead again. They just can't get to fix it. I emailed support, but they replied back with a list of tasks to do that, love the irony of it, had tried already tons of times. One even included launching it from Arc but there's not a single chance I'm going to install it.
btw, thread title is "totally unplayable" because when it decides to freeze it cannot even be accessed.

So are you trying to launch from desktop or Steam?
both. Didn't make a difference.

If I recall correctly, Steam and Arc just open up the STO Launcher so if there is a problem with the Launcher, then it doesn't matter if they use Steam, Arc, or directly use the launcher. The OP might need to uninstall the Launcher or even the entire game, then re-install the Launcher or STO again. Although using Force Verify before doing something this drastic is recommended. One MMO I played had the game crash if I ever entered certain maps. Uninstalling and re-installing the game fixed that issue.

^this. I know I tried them all because I even reinstalled Windows and, after downloading STO again soon afterwards, issue persisted.
Tried tweaking with the Firewall, tried disabling it, still no luck. Tried force verify, tried proxies, still no luck.
If it starts, it's by pure luck.

It's not giving me an error, it just freezes and/or loads the UI veeeery slowly.

Have you tried obtaining the Launcher from someone w/ a working STO and launching that AFTER you do a complete uninstall + delete all associated folders?
It'll take a while for the launcher to download the entire game, but it will do it. Got one of my friends off of Arc that way.
FYI, not placing the entire blame on Cryptic's data centers + code + choice in ISP for the abysmal performance issues as of late, but it's damn hard to look for other sources to find fault in when other issues have been exhausted/fixed.
As this is not the only game that I play that has an exchange between BHN (my ISP) and Cogent, I still find it puzzling that I could be crippled in STO, but not in LoL. At times when there is some lag in LoL, I check the 38.111.x.x Cogent-assigned IP for Cryptic's Boston exchange just to see if it is also hampered as well. In most cases, it is, but not all the time. What that means specifically, I do not know, as I am not privy to their network schema.

Thanks for the tip, I know how those things work. I doubt it's my ISP, it never gave me any troubles in the past 2 years, I don't see why it should now. Additionally considering the heavy connectivity issues the servers are experiencing it would be too much of a coincidence.
Hmmm... know this sounds strange but any issues with IE and security settings?
I don't run malwares :P
Jokes apart never used IE or played with its settings, both before and after reinstalling Windows.

Checked that out already, it's not the issue. Sometimes it even boots with Chrome opened, and other times it does not when it's closed.

Total launch freeze but not the crash a number of us have had. I hope I am not repeating any advice or questions.
Have you cleaned out the heatsinks in your computer? May sound odd but I had issues where I found my heatsink had to be vacuumed because it had clogged to the point hand dusters did not help.
Sadly I do not know how to check for damage to your video card unless you can borrow a friend's card and see if the issue clears.

Don't worry not a video card issue as well. The Mac client's launcher starts just fine, doesn't have any issues. I can run other games as well without troubles and had the Retina display replaced three months ago, so the rest of the hardware is working normally.
Oh if somebody cares for whatever reason, I'm running a 2012 15" Retina MacBook Pro, i7 quad core, 8GB of RAM and Nvidia 650M graphic card, so more than enough to run STO in decent settings. It's actually fluid at 1920x1200 (60fps setting) resolution, but the lag issues in game, especially in the maps we all know are frustrating.
It was way more laggy at full Retina resolution, but for how gorgeous textures are, it's a heavy payload for the GPU. Basically the game itself plays smoothly, but sometimes UI doesn't respond and the ship randomly stops or goes on its own until the server catches up.
Still, I run STO through Windows which has its own partition, not virtualized. The fact that under the hood it's Mac's hardware shouldn't be causing the issue.

Reason I asked was, I seem to recall an issue a couple of years ago with the launcher that was caused by security settings in IE of all things.
That's because the launcher is coded as an IE app. Remember the links that let you open news threads on the forum from inside the launcher? Yeah, that's how that works.

Actually under the hood it's PC hardware, Apple stopped producing their own components quite a while ago and have been using standard PC parts since. The only difference between a Mac and a PC nowadays is the operating system, the case and the price tag.

I know that, but the Base system is still OS X. Boot Camp provides all the hardware drivers and support software that has to be executed during the install process, usually on a USB Drive. For example if you forget connecting it, you may install Windows but it's pretty straightforward: in my case I had 64bit Windows Ultimate disc, which offered the chance to install a version of your own choosing, in my case Professional. If that USB drive is missing, you don't even get to pick it, it goes with Ultimate.
Another example is that there's no BIOS. If you install Windows without BootCamp support it would have no idea how to handle the computer, no drivers at all: WiFi, GPU, Bluetooth antennas and so on. So yeah it's PC hardware, but handled by a bit of Apple software. Even Control Panel has a special tab named BootCamp that can regulate some of the computer's behavior like Function buttons.
Again I don't think it is the issue as I've been playing STO on my Mac for the last two years without these kind of troubles, but I'm not the one who codes the launcher so I can't be sure.

Stupid question: Did you disable the Windows Firewall and remove QoS from the network adapters? If not, try that.

launcher's gone, yet another time. Today's patch addresses connectivity issues, but how am I even supposed to download the update?

First launcher issues, which are just persistent. The magic times it manages to load something the game crashes after 5 minutes. Using a proxy is of no use.
Essentially it had become unplayable, and things just got worse with the last patch. Again, something's really, really broken.
This is a computer game, and guess what, i have NEVER ONCE, had a launcher issue, NEVER ONCE had lag issues, ( until the command ships came out ).
Maybe, JUST MAYBE????? It may be yer computer? Or maybe on the USERS end, and Not Cryptics Fault?
