There are three large issues that are impacting performance right now, and they're all under investigation...
Salami, thanks for posting this info.

I haven't logged into STO since a couple nights before S10 was released. I just got sick of the bad/laggy game play during "normal time", I knew that the added stress caused by all the people swarming in for a new season would really bog things down further, and I lost interest in dealing with that.

So, I haven't played STO in >1wk. Can't bring myself to do it ESPECIALLY after seeing additional posts about FPS issues, continued lag/no connects, etc. But I see that fix is on Tribble, for the FPS, and you guys are working on the networking and power issues.

I missed the Zen/Key sale you guys recently had, too, since I wasn't logging on. Oh well, no $$$ for you this time. That'll teach ya, right? Yeah, right. Maybe next time. :D

Anyway, maybe I'll feel like logging on sooner, but I dunno. Otherwise I'll keep watching the Dev Tracker waiting for those fixes to go live. Keep the communication coming, please.

You can find/contact me in game as @PatricianVetinari. Playing STO since Feb 2010.

There are three large issues that are impacting performance right now, and they're all under investigation.

We're having some odd network issues, not including DDOS attacks, and you may have seen trendy collecting traces along with other information from players. This data is being passed off to our network engineers who are working to solve this issue.

A bug that caused major FPS issues went live with Season 10 and wasn't discovered until Friday. We have a fix that's already on tribble and will go live this week.

We did some profiling on our heavier maps and discovered that some player powers are incredibly expensive on our gameservers. It will take some time to identify them all and rebuild them in a way where they are functionally identical to you, but far less expensive for the gameservers. This is a change that will take time but will trickle out as we identify the offending powers and make fixes.

This is a pretty big deal to us and we have a fair amount of people across a wide array of disciplines working to get this resolved. I apologize for the inconvenience and my delay in posting something about it. Nothing nefarious about the delay, it's simply a busy time over here post release.

Thank you for this statement. At least now I know what's up :).

I wonder which powers are causing the problems. Sixpence says one of them is Subspace Integration Circuit.

I assume its also linked to the wide spread addition of area of effect - powers. Even Octrees arent really that efficient to be used often, maybe save the last results for a longer time if your not already doing that

You should also check most of your T6 ship traits... as many ppl in channels have serious indications that they make way more lag then the new abiliteis like Kemocite with TS3 (mostly because of the big animation) and the sci resonant something ability

But nice that the info is there atleast.

    Salami,

Could some of this have been detected prior to release more effectively with more players Tribbletesting it? I remember the earlier days when we had he tribble test reward times to help beta the changes, and those seemed to be much smoother seasons than the last two or so. I havent even seen announcements regarding testing for Season releases lately. If we can help by beta-ing the changes, I know myself and some others would help, but we havent notice for the call for help.

As someone who's been affected and has been giving you guys major flak over the recent network issues I do VERY MUCH appreciate you taking the time to post an update with regard to identifying them and what cryptic staff are doing to nail down and correct them.

    Hi,

Thank you so much for finally communicating something. It has been nearly 3 months since this has become a major problem and frankly the lack of communication from you and your team added to the toxic vitriol that was being expressed in-game, sto forums and social media. I understand that diagnosis takes time but failing to even acknowledging the player concerns and having sto crew on podcasts jovially saying "What lag?" was extremely counter productive to Cryptic's goals and player wellbeing.

I'm not blind that the production schedule is sacred as revenue must be generated to meet fiscal objectives and this is very measurable. What isn't so measurable is how much revenue you didn't generate due to the state of the game server and the silence to the community about it. The all powerful word of mouth between players is at an all time low and being one of the most cost effective ways to generate revenue seems to be a fact that you guys have ignored.

Once again, this post is exactly what we need to see. It shows us that it is on your radar and maybe now the countless videos that have been made to demonstrate the lag, show ways around the lag or even simply beating it by getting hanger pets to do ISA will no cease.

Looking forward to putting this chapter in STOs life behind us for good.

Like others have said, a HUGE thank you for finally acknowledging the issues and not just blaming Cogent (even if they are part of the issue). However, I do have to express my disappointment that people have providing evidence of items 1 and 3 for months now and this is the first time it's actually being acknowledged. The nanite trait was fixed after like over a week of people (including myself) documenting that it was a repeatable affect. The network "oddities" received zero response.

But, again, thank you for giving us some info. My thread over in PC: Network and Troubleshooting is still there with network test using multiple proxy connections is still there and I'm certainly happy to provide any other documentation/testing that would be helpful. There's probably not many people playing STO on Enterprise level hardware so, I can try to eliminate the client side as much as possible.

Now, to give folks an idea of how much effort is entailed in such identification and resolution, consider the not-so-little scheme enacted by the Clown Prince of Crime (played very well by Jack Nicholson) over in Batman: the tainting of diverse brands of products, with the adulterants proving lethal only in certain combinations. Recall, if you will, how much legwork the authorities were undertaking (off-camera) in an attempt to identify these.

And speaking of Cogent, I still wonder if L3C's customers can sue them for what is, in effect, malicious interference. Quite aside from the whole thing making Cogent look like chumps.

Hey gang look at all the things Cryptic fixed in the game and the stuff they know that needs to be fixed.

    General:
    • Resolved an issue which caused some items to be missing from the following locations:
    o Account Bank
    o Fleet Bank
    o Mail
    o Exchange
o Items which were missing from these locations should now be accessible.
    • Foundry missions can now be played.
o Foundry Edit and Foundry Review are still not available.
o Some published Foundry missions located in the Beta Quadrant are currently not available.
    • Resolved an issue which caused some items which activate Duty Officer missions or tasks such as the Temporal Beacons and the Lore Datachips to not function.
    • Resolved an issue with loadouts where sometimes when a loadout was applied, the powertray would reset instead of loading the correct saved powertray.
    • Resolved an issue which was causing players who purchased the Intrepid Bundle to not receive the Fleet Module discount when attempting to purchase the T6 Fleet Long Range Science Vessel.
    • Resolved an issue that should make an improvement to the lag and drop in FPS some players are experiencing.

    • Added appropriate data to Kemocite-Laced Weaponry, Subspace Vortex, and Structural Integrity Collapse to support interactions with effects such as Reciprocity and other cooldown reduction triggers.
    • Subspace Kemocite Deployment:
o Resolved issues with Subspace Vortex which were causing its power icon to appear to be available for use when it wasn't, or vice versa.
o Resolved an issue where the Vortex would fail to spawn if targeted at an enemy right at the edge of 10km distance.
    • Added new Iconian Ship death explosion animation.
    • Iconian ships have improved warp out animation.

    Content:
    • Borg Red Alerts:
o Reward packs are now automatically unpacked when received and function just like system patrol rewards such as in the Delta Quadrant.
o The daily repeatable missions for these have been removed.
o Added a 30 minute cooldown to each Borg Red Alert.
o Each Borg Red Alert requires the Captain to be at least level 50 to enter.
    • “Blood of Ancients”
o Resolved an issue which was causing the camera to shake in the first cutscene.
o Added small amounts of VO and music which were missing.
    • “Delta Flight”
o Resolved an issue where the Iaidon Dreadnought would not fight in stage 2 and 3 of the encounter with it.
o Added small amounts of VO and music which were missing.
o Closed up holes in the asteroid cave which occasionally could trap players or allies.
    • “Fluid Dynamics”
o Resolved an issue which was causing KDF Captains to not be able to enter this episode.
o Resolved an issue where allies would sometimes not help the players.
    • Resolved an issue that caused a newly created Romulan to sit in a black screen after choosing to skip the tutorial.
o A contact window will now appear where the player can choose to warp to the Flotilla in order to continue the process of skipping the tutorial.
    • Updated the cutscene of the Romulan ship abduction at the end of "Cutting the Cord," in light of recent story revelations.
    • The Iconian is no longer missing from the ending cutscene of "Surface Tension."
    • Battle Group Omega location now has an object in Sector Space which represents it.
    • Resolved an issue with “Gateway to Gre’thor” where defeating the Dreadnought too quickly could stop progress in the mission.

    Known Issues:
    • Foundry Edit and Foundry Review are not available.
o Also, some published missions in the Beta Quadrant cannot be accessed.
    • The Radiant Antiproton Pulsewave Assault Weapon is missing audio effects.
    • Occasionally, when accepting a new Episode, the sub tasks under the episode name will not initially appear in the mission tracker.
o In order to make these appear, the player can open the journal and either clear or make the episode the primary mission or transfer maps.
    • KDF players do not appear in the scoreboard at the end of a PVP match.

This is all great, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE DIRECT3D AND GRAPHCIS ISSUES THAT HAVE BEEN GOING ON FOR THE LAST SERVERAL WEEKS!!! LIKE THIS ONE THAT WE ALL HAVE SEEN OVER AND OVER BEING POSTED IN THIS THREAD.

When are you going to fix this? Don't tell us its our systems; we have uninstalled and reinstalled our graphics drivers and sofware, the game and try all the little tricks that you have suggested.
As players we have done all that you have asked. Some players have gone out of their way to help others fix the problem that you created. It is now time for you to quit placing the blame on others and their system and fix the issue that your team created. Crack the whip on your team get it fixed and if they cant get it done then maybe you need to find someone to fill their seat that can get the job done.

the Deferi map still crashes for just about everyone ( for many, many folks at any rate ) .In addition folks are seeing crash to desktop when switching characters . That indicates it might be a code-flaw in loading maps .

It has been weeks now these bugs persist and it's not even listed as a known issue ( not anymore, anyway ).Did they give up on it ?

4 weeks. 3 successful logins, and NEVER for more than 10 minutes. Tried all the tips and tricks I found in various threads here.

    2 things:
    1. Not everyone has NVIDIA graphics cards - so please stop repeating the same things in reference to NVIDIA cards.
    2. A lot of players can't even get to the select character screen - so any suggestions as to lowering the graphics or changes to settings IN GAME do us no good.

I very much appreciate all the effort the PLAYERS have gone to to try to fix this MAJOR issue that Cryptic seems to not want to acknowledge, much less resolve. If the players can't log in, then there goes your revenue stream.

    Get it fixed.

The longer they take, the more I become disinterested in the game. I'm going to can my sub when it expires this month unless its fixed. I'm not paying for a game I can't even log into.

by looks of it , they're at risk of losing a lot of oldtimers ( and those are the folks who pretty much funded the entire game ) if this isn't fixed STAT

I'm noticing I'm rapidly losing interest as well ( and I have also invested heaps of cash in this game over the years ) . What's the point if you're sitting in front of your screen being annoyed ?

It's not te fact bugs are present , it's the way all those players are completely ignored ( apparently the advice one player got was to " take his PC to he shop to have it looked at "... even though we all know it's the game's code that's flawed )

And , while I applaud the effort , it's pretty outrageous players have to come up with fixes themselves

I am also suddenly unable to complete my connection and time out when trying to log on after downloading the most recent update. If lag is that bad maybe it is just all the new powers and their ensuing visuals; you're making them too pretty for their own good... but honestly, I have been noticing a glut of new stuff recently, and with it comes similar issues, too many new things for players to use that may or may not be broken or are resource hogs, it's a mess. When a player asks for new content, they usually mean they want more stories and not new toys that do things seen before, but now different. While it might not be time to clean out the attic and garage, you might want to turn off the home shopping network before you wind up on an episode of hoarders.

Sadly my disconnects and log in problems are still happening daily, Im not a happy Paid/Paying customer now who is still buying from you. Im starting to ask why. I have never ever paid so much for a game that tries it best to not allow me to enjoy it.

I do hope this is the first and last angry post I ever make. i support you guys by what I did and do, I need to feel you support me.

I tried some of the fixes myself when this began. I decided to NOT do that anymore since it didn't work and I've said earlier in the thread every other MMO game installed works perfectly on my machine. (SWTOR, Secret World, EVE).

Trk isn't on TV anymore, so losing "old timers" seems like a bad idea. With the new Star Wars movie in the works maybe they just don't care anymore. Either way if I can't log on before the end of my sub, I'm going to end the sub. This isn't a ragequit thing. This isn't my first account with STO. (I played in Open Beta and so on off and on). I always ended up being disappointed by something in the game and going elsewhere. But with other gaming options now I don't know if I'll come back. The frustration isn't worth it.

Yeah. I don't usually mind - ad last time just got tired of waiting and found a fix that works (though none have done the trick this tmie though).

It's just a little frustrating now to see more content, more updates, more patch notes, have a weekend off work and still waiting.... and no mention of it on the dev notes. Which is a little ridiculous.

The positive is that I can at least log in on safe mod - I just can't do much other than walk or fly in circles. Looks like the Delta Recruit thing was awaste of time so far as there's no chance I'll be able to finish it.

hi,yesterday a drammatic lag problem...2 hours to finish une mission, today infinite server not responding(in this moment i am at 94.30% in loading page but have 251s of SNR.) tomorrow??
I'm afraid , just the thought of what might be the issue that I will propose tomorrow is destabilizing.
Today is a holiday, the people are at home , and would like to maybe spend a few hours to play and have fun , instead stresses in long lines , in blocks lag assurdi.vediamo to do a little something quickly , perhaps to give us a way to play in peace and Saturday and Sunday .
    thanks

Not sure what was done, but the last two days I've been able to play with practically no lag. This is the first time in weeks. Thankyou, whoever it was <3:)
