I will echo the calls to let our mains do this. I was just about to start doing the missions again from the beginning to search for any stealth accolades. This would be the perfect reason to do that.
I always wanted a new character, and since that is a zen upgrade, then I will take it! I might make a new character just so I can get any zen rewards if any come around. If Cryptic wants to give out content, heck I will take it! but as far as missions, this new guy will just become someone ill mail TRIBBLE to for storage in another inventory slot. I got a feeling most new ones will become utility characters and nothing more, but heck, if cryptic has time to give us FREE STUFF that is valued with REAL MONEY, sign me up. but no, im not competing in missions unless the reward gives me every single Zen item ingame, cause my character has to many long nights of planet exploration, anti-borg marauding, and flight time under his belt to be abandoned to the wolves (atleast the costumes from the anniversary event are still usable on him)
but this new idea is just going to be farmed in any way by already existing characters

If this is a prototype testbed for future plans of that nature, awesome.
If it isn't, try harder.
I can see it now.
Limited Time Breen race during the Winter Event; with exclusive parallel "micro-faction" mini-missions and bonuses that last during the event. Discounted Winter Event Rep rewards.
Limited Time Tholian race during a future Crystalline Catastrophe event. Same temporary extras as the Breen.
Limited Time Risian race during the Summer Event; same temporary extras as the Breen and Tholians.
Limited Time Specialist character prior to a future new expansion. Only these Specialists gain Spec points with each level up to 50; but cannot spend them until they reach 50. Comes with a permanent bonus to XP/Specialization gain just for that character, as a specific Trait. Will add 1 bonus Spec point to all other characters on the account every major rank (8 total).
Limited Time Anniversary Q-Copy character every Anniversary. Allows you to be a Q-copy, float like Q, and use unique built-in "weapon" abilities with hilarious animations to 1HKO ground enemies for the duration of the Anniversary. Is then nerfed back to doing double regular weapon damage (more powerful than equipped weapons, to make up for the lack of being able to equip them) after the event.
Is this faction locked so we have to do both factions as a new toon?
Do we have to get all the way to the new Dust to Dust mission or is there a lower point? Hoping it is not the DQ missions as I cannot get toons to 60 on that due to XP being so tedious to acquire so far.
To answer Question 2... yeah, Dust to Dust is at the end of the Delta Quadrant Episodes, and requires level 60 to play.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
Are we going to get a free character slot for this, like we did with LoR? Cause my slots are tapped out...
yes we are getting one, but its not to clear

As an old player returned to the game what really poisons this game for me the most is the community. Shouldn't you be glad that the Devs are trying to bring in new players or bring back old ones? Why does every thing Cryptic does have to be for your benefit or it is a terrible idea?
Events like this cost you, as the player nothing. Even if you choose not to take part you will still see a benefit in the week long buffs, plus there will be more players for you to do things with at end game. If you want to take part? More Dil and a trait for all your characters, even if all you do is get to max level and never touch the character again you still gained something.
Now while i am not a fan of having to grind a new toon i will wait until more information is passed along before i praise or slam this new content.
I have 13 odd toons with 5 being at 60 and if this i get to do something different in the game i am all for it, the game needs a boost and this may be it.
So i am looking forward to this but as the same time a little bit cautious as well.
"All Delta Recruits will have an inherent bonus trait during the Delta Recruit Event of generating Dilithium Ore upon defeating enemies, a bonus which extends to your entire group. This trait will only be available during this event and will be gone once the Delta Recruitment event ends, so gather your Dilithium Ore while you can"
I am sure I can find a way to abuse this:P
HAHAHHAHAHA! I very much doubt that.
Any guess as to how much Dilithium your get per kill? I'll go fist an and day 5 Dilithium per kill.
I don't see anything in the blog that says our main characters will be made obsolete by delta rercruits. You can unlock an account-wide trait for all your characters if you level up a recruit so that benefits your alts as well. Am I missing the part where it says delta recruits will get exclusive perks and benefits that aren't account-wide unlocks?
There's not much exclusive, and one of them is for sure temporary:
Delta Recruits will be playing a parallel story to that of their chosen faction. They have a list of goals that they can achieve at any time, and completing these goals will see them rewarded with equipment, Marks, and other rewards beneficial not just to the Delta Recruit, but to all characters on the same account. Completing the story arcs of your chosen faction will reward you with a unique Starship Trait for all characters on your account: Temporal Insight. This trait will proc a Damage Immunity when you use any Hull Heal on your starship.
Delta Recruits can only be created during the Delta Recruit event. These recruits can be recognized by the Delta Symbol (∆) next to their names. All Delta Recruits will have an inherent bonus trait during the Delta Recruit Event of generating Dilithium Ore upon defeating enemies, a bonus which extends to your entire group. This trait will only be available during this event and will be gone once the Delta Recruitment event ends, so gather your Dilithium Ore while you can!
Additional rewards are gained by leveling up, playing through story content up through the Breen story arc, and finding special Delta Recruit objectives on certain mission maps. Many of the same things that players do while levelling their characters will earn Delta Recruits improved rewards!
The Dilithium bonus is exclusive and temporary, but whether or not the parallel missions and exclusive Delta Objectives are temporary remains to be seen. It's possible those will remain exclusive to Delta Recruits; if only as a tiny bonus incentive.
I'm actually more interested in the Dilithium bonus; is it referring to team groups or your account group? Because Team groups make more sense in that it encourages teams of non-DR (lol DR = Delta Rising / Delta Recruit) players to get a DR player onto their team for queues or mission runs/reruns.
Edit: If these unique rewards include a high-end Constitution or anything from the ENT, TOS or TMP era, and those items are specific to only people that create and grind new characters, I foresee a large portion of players moving on.
This would be one of the only reasons I would start a new toon.
I say, all the older players with established characters, just give the big F U to this event by not making a new character. Let it fall flat on its face.
In fact, can we merge this thread with the DOOOOM thread?

I have a lot of characters, and I'm going to participate in this event, because I want to see what the rewards are going to be, and have the enjoyment of see what the story brings to the table.
Can you guys think about how you're marketing for half a second? I read a dev blog a few weeks ago about bringing down the walls of sector space which says all that in the present tense and assume that it is currently a thing. Nope. Intrigued though, I create a character. Now, this blog makes me feel like an idiot for creating a new char, because the only faction that I haven't played in recent memory is the fed, which I just made a new toon for. So, recap, if I play this toon all the way through, I get to grind the exact same story... twice! If I dont, then I will probably sub for another game and there's a chance that I just wont be interested in this game by that point. At what point have any of you thought this through really?
Why not just have the delta bit be something that an existing character can do on the side anyways?
Well, I certainly have a number of questions, but it was fun to re-run the updated Romulan arc, so it would probably be fun to run the original content with a bunch of fleet folks.
I'll give Cryptic the benefit of the doubt, but I hope that I don't have to dedicate huge amounts of time to be able to move through the content on the new character and get the rewards. ; )

As a veteran of the game, I am dubious about the intentions behind this 'scheme' - I simply don't trust this to be as good-willed as the buttery words imply.
It also feels like a bit like a slap in the face as I have recently started a new character around the start of this year. While I do think the lower level play is (currently) superior to end game content, I'm not sure I really want to make yet another new character so soon(especially without access to the Winter Event boots and kit modules). Delta Rising has been extremely punishing for my 9 current characters.
That said, I am somewhat salivating at the prospect of trying to use this as an excuse to lure some friends into the game again... but I see them getting completely frustrated and turned off by the current loadout issues. This has seriously been the number one killer of my efforts to try to bring people to the game.
It's level 1 to 50, the stop point is at the end of the Breen Arc.
If true, that wouldn't be so bad. Still, I have alts that sit around and do nothing already. Seems rather pointless to bring up yet another one, when I actually removed alts when it became clear just how alt-unfriendly this game was going to be after Delta Rising.

I'm thinking maybe pancakes." ~ John Casey
Do a separate event for already existing characters aswell.
Surely those who have been here for years myself included "need to prepare" as well? (roleplay)
but not only that you'd encourage much more existing players to actually play.
Obviously it would need to be different but surely you can do something for existing characters too? I mean this TRIBBLE for those of us who have been here for years..we need something too...
after all we are the ones forking out ridiculous amount of money for you and the game...
I already dont play with more than half of my characters because DR GRID. It would be insane if I were to buy/create/lvl up a few more characters, and to equip them with lobi/mk 14 things it just wont happen.
There's not much exclusive, and one of them is for sure temporary:
The Dilithium bonus is exclusive and temporary, but whether or not the parallel missions and exclusive Delta Objectives are temporary remains to be seen. It's possible those will remain exclusive to Delta Recruits; if only as a tiny bonus incentive.

My hope would be if this is the case that completing the mission accolade that unlocks Temporal Insight account-wide extends other Delta Recruit perks to alts as well.
I do suspect as one poster suggested that Delta Recruits will be Delta Quadrant races sent back in time to play the tutorial.
Here's my suspicion:
Captain Walker shows up and gathers a bunch of Kobali/Hierarchy/Ocampa/Cooperative Borg/Hirogen/etc. and sends them back in time to Starfleet or Klingon Academy.
I suspect you will be able to unlock most or all of the perks with a single alt but that you'll want extra alt slots if you want to create captains of species offered during this event. And so you may want alt slots since I suspect those species will only be unlocked during the event.
I have a lot of characters, and I'm going to participate in this event, because I want to see what the rewards are going to be, and have the enjoyment of see what the story brings to the table.
That's what Cryptic is banking on: enough people being curious enough to try it. Then, everyone has to start a new toon because only the Delta Recruits have the skills for endgame anymore. All the old toons and alts are left in the dust.
Or, you can upgrade your character for a nominal fee.
"After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true. Except for a T5 Connie. That would be f*%#ing awesome." - Mr. Spock
To boot,
if you're wondering why people are driven away, then I can tell you why. The game is exploitive in terms of money. I don't care if the game is f2p and Cryptic has to make a buck or not. It's just that the way the payments work is absurd. It's that you pay nothing and a lot of things you want are outrageously priced. As far as people saying that you can grind your way into these things, time is currency too.
I don't understand why there isn't a lick of common sense to at least sell the t5 ships for a reduced cost and the t6 ships for what the t5 used to go for. And for you Cryptic defenders out there, I'm not arguing against giving money to Cryptic, I'm arguing that Cryptic should make me want to as opposed to making borderline TRIBBLE marketing decisions in regards to how to make an income. There are two extremes to pricing, you can price your items really high and hope that one or a few buy the things (like Cryptic) or you can price things really low and try and get as many people to buy as possible. Both are terrible ideas. It's best to price things at a more average price making it affordable to most people, but not without profitability. Everyone knows a for profit business is a business to make money; it's just that most people don't want to be treated as though their money is a given.

Can I play as an Undine?
Level 1 to 60, in only 7 weeks?
Unless they are giving these new character +500% XP, it's simply not possibly unless you play every day for 18 hours a day!
Absurd!
