I'm wondering if somehow this promotion caused a bug. I'm not sure how but yesterday (before patch) a person in chat bought Master Keys from the C-Store and tried to sell them but couldn't. The keys were "Bound to Account", as I notice, so are the ones in this pack.

Is this a bug that somehow affected some purchases of keys or is this a new "feature" where keys are no longer trade-able?

That's intentional and has been for a while. It's called a 'fraud prevention system' and puts a probationary period on the account. It was explained here by Cryptic http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1286371

    Summary:
"New ZEN buyers and those with a limited purchase history may get temporarily flagged into the probation system. Once you have an established purchase history with us, the system is unlikely to trigger."

    During the probationary period:
1)Any zen purchased can't be traded for dilithium in the dil exchange until the probation ends.

2)Any tradeable items purchased from the c-store (such as master keys and fleet ship modules) are bound to the user's account. After the probationary period these items will stay bound to account but any new items purchased can be traded.

3)All items obtained from lock boxes and the lobi store by the user will be bound to account. After the probationary period the items will stay bound but any new items can be traded.

"If you receive the warning about a C-Store purchase being bound-to-account and do not wish to have bound items, cancel your purchase and try again the next day. The probation status is removed from your account once the financial transaction is confirmed, which can take up to 10 days."

Sorry, you guys are wrong. It is an unlock, it unlocks both shuttles account wide. Read the description of the promotion in the zen store, it is very clear. I have already done it and can confirm that opening the shuttle box, regardless of faction, unlocks both faction shuttles account wide in the zen store.

If it's an unlock then that would be good cause when they gave the Delta Flyer away in the EU it was a shuttle in a box and not an account wide unlock.

I like it - Helped my toon out loads.

One thought tho - Could this become a permanent thing - Buy ZEN get some R&D stuff and some or at least one Key. As you said in the post: Rule of Acquisition # 191 It Never Hurts to Sweeten the Deal

Would make me want to buy more ZEN, I know this as a fact.

    Keep up the good work!!!

That is so not fair, how can you limit this offer to the Arc system? I have been purchasing Zen off the Steam Store for all the time I have been active. I feel neglected now and pushed to the side by PWE/Cryptic.

Well done PWE for alienating your steam community even more. This will heavily playu in my future decisions to buy from the game in the future.:mad:

The answer is easy. They don't want people playing from steam they want everyone playing from ARC. Back when Arc was first released they said they want all Cryptic/PWE games to be exclusive to Arc. My prediction is they will find a way to remove STO from steam at some point.

it is not an unlock... it is a shuttle in a box. if you discharge it... its gone forever unless you buy the shuttle again.

the shuttle is based on who claims it... if a fed toon claims it you get the fed shuttle in a box.

if kdf then you get the kdf shuttle in a box.

roms get jack unless they choose a faction already.

And it's Bind To Character, not Account. So make sure your toon is the one you want to have the shuttle on.

    Nice.

Don't like that they're account bound stuff, especially the keys. Remember folks, anything you buy or earn from those keys becomes "toxic" and thus untradable too. Eg ships, items, etc you win from lockboxes opened with those keys and the associated lobi you earn from opening those, what you purchase from the lobi store with the toxic lobi becomes toxic (account bound) too.

    User beware.

You are still eligible, you just need to purchase zen now to get the package added to your account.

I'm telling you guys you are wrong, dead WRONG!

If you read the description on the first time promotion thing in the zen store it states it explicitly. I claimed the first time zen promotion from the zen store on a KDF klingon and then the shuttles, in the zen store, were marked as available. I had never purchased either of these before and I have never received them from past freebies, I have only been playing since two days before the end of the winter event. I just went and confirmed that it is a dual-faction account-wide unlock by going on to my KDF-Romulan and claiming the shuttle (after my KDF Klingon had already claimed it). I then went onto two Fed toons and claimed the Yellowstone on both.

tldr: The shuttle unlock from the 'first time zen' promotion unlock both faction's shuttles for the entire account, retrievable through the zen store.

[edit] Could a dev please weigh in on this one and settle the matter, because either I'm correct and it is an account wide unlock or I was lucky enough to be on the receiving end of a very nice bug. [/edit]

Just a note, your first post says Steam purchases DO qualify, then your second says they don't, but only at the VERY bottom.

That seems a little deceptive to me, now I have 20 bucks sitting in my steam wallet and had to spend more money. For me it's not a huge deal I'll spend that on another game, even if I have to wait until the steam sales, and I know it's my fault for not reading first.

But when you have a huge caveat like that, I feel the warning should be more prominent

The only thing that gives me pause is the Fraud Prevention System; potentially having to deal with a persistent and contagious Bound state on all items purchased with my Zen is a serious impediment to me being a First-Time Buyer...

...maybe if we had specific guidelines as to what triggered it,
maybe if accounts over a year old were exempt from it,
maybe if the Bound state were removed when the transaction was verified,
maybe if you just didn't give us Zen until the transaction was verified,
    etc.

The promo is a neat idea, though. Thanks for that, at least.

I guess they don't want my money, I was planning to spend $40 from my steam account for the 15% bonus, until they decided that it was second class money, not worthy of being rewarded like other money, I guess I'll save it for a different game

Incorrect, i traded away the items from the lock boxes that i opened with the bound keys, in this instance you're allowed to trade the items and there was a PWE post a couple of pages before your post about it :)

I have no way of testing this as I already have both of the shuttles unlocked on my account.
Join date is wrong, I've actually been around since STO Beta.
True alters don't have a "main". Account wide unlocks for all unique event rewards!!

I have to laugh at this concept. Saw it the first time in Neverwinter and they gave away a unique companion, a bag, etc. That made sense.

Now I'm looking at STO's version and I have to wonder...

    WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!?

Yellowstone: Been given away at least twice and once unlocked is unlocked for all Federation characters.

    Todoj Fighter: Ditto.

I realize you guys are too busy to come up with something unique just for this pack and were probably pushed into making it to begin with, but my recommendation would have been to just ignore those requests and keep going like you're going. This is just a joke.

I like the pack, I was not around to get the yellowstone before, also one of those keys got me the last kobali R&D DOFFs I needed so I can't complain.

I didn't know about the promotion so getting something extra was a nice surprise.

All Federation or Federation-aligned Romulans on the account will get the Runabout Yellowstone shuttle. All Klingon and Klingon-aligned Romulans will get the To'duj Fighter shuttle. Romulans. Please note: Romulans without a faction will not receive this ship pack.
    Romulans.

    Yes. Romulans.

I bought my 15% Off Zen last night, and got my FTB Reward. Thanks for that.

Using my keys I opened three Vaadwaur Lockboxes and got a polaron weapons pack (which contained a sniper rifle that sold on the exchange for 28,888EC), an R&D Pack (various), a 100Mark booster, and the three combined got me 14 Lobi.

The Large XP Boost I used on my Main and it was consumed with one Finish of all my DOff missions I had running while at work (I had some pretty impressive crits). So thanks for the 10k extra XP.

I opened the R&D Pack and got another batch of various R&D bits and bobs after the one that came in my lockbox.

When I looked more closely at the shuttle box, I remembered the Yellowstone was already unlocked on my account thanks to the Summer Giveaway you guys had back in 2013. (And I still haven't used it, heh) Too bad the box was bound. Ah well... delete.

The Lobi are probably the highlight in all the above, but even so, nothing especially impressive. S'ok, I'd've bought Zen anyway since it was on sale and I wanted to buy some more inventory/bank space, since you guys upped the max on that.

So Cryptic, mission success: A little extra to sweeten the deal. Little being the operative word, but hey I regret nothing, and still enjoyed the "excitement" of opening the boxes, thanks! :D

You can find/contact me in game as @PatricianVetinari. Playing STO since Feb 2010.

The box the shuttle comes in is Character Bound, so it can not be transferred to a different toon. But I did log onto a rom with a different faction and she did get a shuttle unlock as well. I did not check any other toons since it was late.

The Shuttle box itself is character bound. However, when you open it and unlock the shuttle it unlocks for your whole account!

i dont like shuttle play at all... would be different if you guys ever made it so you flew and played only via the cockpit view... make it more of a space fighter simulator experience.

    Pretty much every f2p :)

Anyway, it was arc only, so the zen I just bought through steam (thx people for buying my cards btw) were pretty much useless for this offer ?

    Should have read more carefully.
