There are cases when I am switching from a cruiser to an escort during leveling (happened pretty much with every toon I leveled so far) where I completely switch from beams to cannons near level 30 or so, then back to beams at level 50. But real examples are many. In my personal experience, I almost never reused gear from my previous ship, as I usually went to the exchange to buy completely new, different gear for the new ship. Weapons, consoles, everything new. Every time.
This feature doesn't make my job easier. In fact, it's a little aggravating that it wants to make decisions on my behalf. Additionally, it seems, to me, that manpower used to develop this feature could have been used better elsewhere. There are many new, better Quality-of-Life upgrades that could get more attention.
Ok, I understand. However, from which old ship will the new ship take the loadout? I can see that if the new ship is an upgraded version of a ship you currently have then I get it. Will it say from which old ship the new ship will take the gear from?
Most want the option to opt out, but we shall see what you come up with and how flawlessly this works. I am glad that you are thinking of making new introductions to the game to make life in STO easier. And following this idea of making matters simpler and easier for us players, I would like to take this opportunity to ask that you make both Ground and Space Traits available and active whenever we are on ground or in space. It bugs me to have to change Traits from the pool to supply only one section for both space and ground. There are times when I do the Borg Disconnect Adv. and while it is on cooldown do the Bug Hunt. Most of the time I am unable to join because I have to change my space to ground traits. I am sure most players would appreciate this small adjustment. Just as my skill tray changes from space to ground when moving from one to the other, the traits should function the way the skill tray does. Wouldn't life be great doing the Delta Episodes having this new adjustment. Fighting the Vaudwaur in space and beaming down with your ground traits active to fight Gaul? Yes, you can leave the area, change your traits and continue with the mission.
Just thought of an unintended consequence of this one... basically, it's for equipping a new ship when you level up, without having to think about it, right?
So, some people are going to use it for precisely this purpose....
They will level up, they will transfer their old equipment to their new ship, and be on their merry way without worrying about it any more.
Which means, ultimately... well, those of you who do pugs, enjoy going into those STFs in a team with someone who's still using the gear he got from the tutorial!
... Who, me? I'm not doing that. I'm going back to the mission I'm currently playing - after five minutes of dedicated effort, I have finally got the last of my bridge officers to move in a straight line through an open doorway, so now I can proceed. I don't know when I first reported these pathing errors as a bug, but it's not one that's been fixed, yet - even though it will be old enough to vote, soon.
But fixing that bug would not be an appropriate use of development time and resources. Unlike "Simple Ship Transitions". Apparently.
I don't understand the right purpose of this new feature, instead I add a "+1" in the
suggestion of the button "Unequip all" (grayed if you don't have room in the inventory).
useless addition. iirc no one has asked for it. and it will certainly cause troubles. even if it will work as intended from the first moment you implement it, i still don't want that my current ship's gear would automatically carry over to my new ship.
I don't understand the right purpose of this new feature, instead I add a "+1" in the
suggestion of the button "Unequip all" (grayed if you don't have room in the inventory).
I agree, except, put them in the overflow bag, don't mess with the inventory.
We are the Borg. Existence as you know it is over. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile.
I suggest Cryptic totally can this feature as currently designed and start fresh as to what would be a value added enhancement to readying new ships.
I strongly feel the best new feature would be the ability to have a one click, with confirmation, to remove all common items on a new ship. Dont put them in any inventory. We can move any common items we dont want deleted into our inventory before we use this mass delete option. I would like this ability to be available for any ship regardless of its status.
BTW, in general, I really dont like the game auto populating any user customable feature, especially our ships and our power trays. The current auto populating feature of our power tray is totally useless.
As for new players, I dont see how auto populating a new ship with the items from their currently readied ship really makes readying a new ship much easier. The lower tier ships have just a few slots to be populated and having to manually populate them is not really a big chore. Assistance in equipping a new ship is really only needed on higher tier ships when the ship has many more slots and the player probably has many more options they can chose from for any specific slot. In that scenario, the one click feature described above is probably the most useful feature. It at least gets the junk out of the way. Once a new player starts to acquire more advanced gear they will really start to appreciate this one click feature as well.
If for some reason a player wants the game to auto populate their ship from a ship they already have then make this a feature that can be enabled or disabled.
Read the blog, I understand what you are saying. Watched it in action on tribble. I know, and verified that I can swap one item before readying the ship.
I still want an opt out in the options, just like I can disable the voice chat by clicking a toggle.
Don't like it, it doesn't save me time, and it thinks I want to pull gear from the last ship I flew, not the one that is most similar. Will take me longer to put stuff back than to start from scratch, and I know I'll forget at least once to swap something becore readying a new ship.
Just put a toggle on/off in settings and those who want it can have it, those who don't want it can go without it. I don't see why so many people think an "opt out" means "don't make this live".
All of this.
Folks, no one is saying that you can't have the feature if you want it. We're saying, we don't want it. And we shouldn't have to use crappy workarounds to avoid having to use it, not when a simple toggle in the options menu would suffice.
It's like they keep ignoring the things that get hammered home in General on a daily basis while simultaneously trying to placate us with things no one wanted or asked for. To be fair, this might not even be Cryptic's fault. This is a common disconnect that happens with corporations like Perfect world, between those in the trenches and those suits sitting in the penthouse discussing more ways to glean profit. The ones in the know of what the biggest problems are aren't the ones with the authority to appropriate resources.
During the Christmas event i got the T6 breen carrier, if when i opened the box all my gear had been stripped from my dyson destroyed and put onto the breen carrier i would have been ticked.
Cause then i would have had to take it all back off and put it back on my dyson since its not the gear i would want on the breen ship.
This "feature" is unneeded, maybe if opening new ships was a daily thing this might have some use, but as is, nope. The time would have been better spent fixing existing problems really.
Like if you want to make players lives easier, how about a place to store all the stuff clogging our inventory, like tribbles, vanity pets for ground and space, ground and space items that are part of a set that we dont want to just delete but arent using right now. Add a special storage for this stuff.
The pets and tribbles can go into some "zoo bay" on the ship and the set parts can go into "cargo storage". make the biological slots only able to be used with pets and tribbles.
the set item storage can be some kind of set collection museum, where players can collect set parts like they collect achievements. but they can pull out the equipment and put it back in as needed.
bottom line though, auto swapping gear to a new ship is a bad idea.
please cancel the idea or make it default off and players have to turn it on manually "opt on".
if its on by default we will see new players all the time asking "where did my ship gear go?".
"Tickle us, do we not laugh? Prick us, do we not bleed? Wrong us, shall we not revenge?" -General Chang
I'd like to agree with the common sentiment here and opt out of this and urge for more focus on fixing current loadout bugs please.
Going into a mission and discovering that my Boffs have all decided to abandon their stations or a console was randomly switched or taken off or my doffs decided to revert to a previous setup or powers disappearing from the power bars is what makes me not want to try out new ships or switch between them for fear of an absolute chaos storm.
Trying to frantically fix it while the mission is failing because there are required objectives (That are sometimes perma broken like the viscous cycle unstable anomoly? Really did anyone test that before they made it a required objective?) does not make the game more challenging, it makes it frustrating and unplayable.
I don't know how many of these responses you will take into consideration but please read some of them as even a few I think will give developers an idea of what is really bothering players.
Just imagine if the time spent developing this totally unnecessary and undesired system was spent FIXING THE EXISTING LOAD-OUT SYSTEM.
I'm just saying.
Spend a little time fixing the old bugs before creating new bugs.
I strongly suspect they figured out how to do this while trying to fix the load out system and that no, or very little, time was spent on this directly.
If they did work on it specifically, then as I said earlier it is not for us, it is for the Xbox release same as neverwinter.
I would love it if when I switch to the new ship, it copied over tray settings that could be copied over as well.
The most annoying thing for me is moving all the tray locations around when I switch into a new ship. I try to have the same skills in the same places because I'm used to hitting "1" for evasive manuevers, for example, and having it someplace else throws me off.
Otherwise, I think this will save me some time when I'm leveling up a captain and switch into a new tier of ships, and also help me remember to switch in the better stuff I had to replace the free commons that come with the ship.
Great time saving feature, but you should get to select the ship it takes gear from (or opt out), rather than using the currently active one.
Everyone needs to think about the potential here. If you use a ship anything like the one you're setting up, this will move your weapons, space set, and consoles over at once. Chances are it'll be fewer clicks to update it from there than to put everything on it in the first place.
+1
Nothing else to say.
The people who are constantly complaining are complaining because they are upset by the game being broken in several different ways. I know bugfixes are hard to spin as great innovations, but i'm sure cryptic can find a way. So maybe the next thing to do would be a big major overhaul of EXISTING systems to make them playable. PWE would have customer satisfaction like never before and people wouldn't be afraid to spend their money on the game because they would feel like it was going to continue working and not suddenly just quit functioning (like mine did after christmas).
When does Cryptic respond to the STO community on this topic?
Why? 18 forum pages and counting, full of opposition and opinions to this new feature addition, needs to be responded to.
(Note: In the U.S., Martin Luther King Jr. holiday takes place on Monday, January 19, 2015. I expect Cryptic/PWE offices to be closed during that time. And I doubt a response would come today, January 16.)
Cryptic: Please take the STO community feedback into consideration and address a.s.a.p.
What I would really like, is a bridge officer layout that I can switch between ships. Thus, you buy and model bridge officer seating, which can be switched between ships of the right class. Keeping the bridge officer seating similar to the class of ship (say focus on science seating with science ship) gives a synergy bonus. While say having a science focused bridge officer seating arrangement on a escort gives no synergy bonus, any maybe even a penalty.
This is where I would like STO to heard towards, not an easier ability to change ships. Most of the reason I pick a ship, is due to the usefulness of the bridge officer layout.
Please give us an "opt out" feature. This is not wanted, not needed and there are plenty of additions and bug fixes that you could be better spending your time on.

I don't trust you folks anymore, not after the incredibly bugged Loadouts fiasco, which still isn't completely fixed.
I never asked for this, and I don't want it.

That's what a lot of us said when Delta came steamrolling out of the abyss!
quite agree i would rather not have this and prefer to set my own layout.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
