Thank you for the official communication, Morrigan.

I'll put my pitchfork and torch away unless it turns out there are way more exploiters than you previously let on. Also, if it turns out that these rollbacks are affecting way more players than previously indicated. I am all for taking away the progress of people using the system unfairly, but the benchmark to what deserves a rollback and what does not often decides whether this was a good idea or a bad idea that is ultimately Cryptic's fault.

If it is Cryptic's fault, then the players should be not be punished for a mistake they made, or the punishment should not be particularly severe as to deserve a rollback of their character(s). Again, to reiterate, this is dependant on the number of players affected.

A small number is a very vague and non-specific number that can be easily misinterpreted as extremely subjective when you are talking about player numbers in any MMO.

Small number is relative to what, exactly?

    Thanks Trendy.

Since it looks like it was an issue with the dil and not with people using the patrols to level, I'm largely alright with how things turned out.

You must be joking! Have you seen how much they have castrated the XP (and buffed up the ships even more)? It's like paying twice as much for something but only getting 25% of what you used to get just 24 hours earlier.

And the Devs sure seemed to go into Transwarp Drive when it came to closing this loophole, didn't they? Sure wish they put this much speedy effort into fixing things like the Talaxian BOFFs that are supposed to have a Salvage Trait but won't.

I'd also like to make a request of a different nature.

You see, I _did_ level-match and run patrols in Tau Dewa for a few hours, and I didn't have any points taken away.

As it stands, I'm finished with the Pilot specialization track and have 4 points in Commando. If I had to guess, without Tau Dewa patrols I'd only have about 10 points in Pilot and none in Commando.

I've also completed ship mastery on all the T6 ships in the Delta operations pack. Without Tau Dewa, I would probably have only finished on my Eclipse and Phantom, and started on my Dauntless.

While I *strenuously* disagree with your characterization of running the Tau Dewa patrols as an exploit, or in any way objectionable, I won't be classified as a cheater. If you don't intend to restore the levels you've removed from other players, then please remove whatever levels you feel are appropriate from my account.

    Hey Cryptic.

The fact that this guy gets to keep his points and i had 2 of my 13 taken from me for being part of this "excessive exploiter" group means you will never

    and I mean NEVER

    EVER

see another cent from me again.

Yeh my bro called me about the specialization fiasco.

Randomly taking an arbitrary amount of time from your playerbase using ill defined metrics and having tons of collateral damage.

Game over. Was fun while it lasted STO, but I dont even feel like logging into see how much of my game/fun time you decided I gained unfairly just playing your content.

Wont be but another month or 2 now.

I admit I have purchased quite a few ships from the C-store, because at the time I enjoyed the game and loved finding new ways to play the game. Now that the devs have made it clear how much contempt they have for us I feel there is no longer any reason to continue supporting this game. Really glad all of this happened before I bought the DR pack. I'd even planned on getting a LTS with my Xmas bonus, dodged a hell of a bullet there. Guess I'll just play ST:Legacy for my Star Trek fix.

Since LoR has gotten released, And when the Rep changes went into affect, I said the Cryptic/Perfect World was going to ruin the game.

Dyson got released, I knew that the fast way of getting the Dyson Rep the we all knew and enjoyed was going to get nerf nuked. Turns out the Nerfs kept coming.

Finally, we get to the Delta Rising expansion. Great promises of this and that, promises our T5 ships would NOT be obsolete. Promises for Secondary deflectors for ALL science ships.

    WE GOT CRAPPED ON.

Now that they want us to grind to level up, we do. Just not where they want us to. We were having too much fun NOT playing their new content, they practically have to force us to play it or not play at all.

Hope Cryptic/Perfect World likes empty servers. That is what they are going to end up with before they release new content for Delta.

Sure would be nice if our TWO community managers would manage us. Speaking as one of the natives I am feeling quit restless and I know that back when we had ONE community manager I would have been pacified by now.

    FYI Cryptic :

The player numbers dive you will see after this weekend will only partially be due to exhaustion of grinding Dill .

Some of those players you won't be seeing for a long long time if ever ... , as exhaustion + poor taste in the mouth (from the recent debacle) does not = returning players .

See if your metrics can sort that one out .

    EDIT :
And I for one do not blame the CM's for any of this . This mess comes from far above their pay grade .

    So what was the exploit?

I lost levels, and the only thing I did was run japori a few hours on my own on elite. That's hardly exploity right?? I mean, I can still do that everywhere.

Why did I lose specialisation points??? And why did I lose a small number instead of everything I earned from japori patrol?

The enemies weren't scaling correctly to the players level so it was basically easy kills for easy xp.

This is funny and sad at the same time, and reeks of incompetence.

There are two things to learn here:

A: Test your damn game, and don't roll back characters later because you find that you set the XP gain from mobs too high. That's Cryptic's fault.

B: People were grinding because you FAILED to give them enough story missions to level to 60 with. Next time, do better.

Overall, this is possibly the most pathetic PR management I have seen in my entire life.

I do not mean to marginalize you, or attempt to minimalize your current struggles right now. You are very clearly going through some very difficult times, and I can't express my sympathy or empathy with you enough.

Try not to take what Bluegeek said personally. I do understand (and even agree) that there needs to be more transparency with what is going on, and that there should be improved communications with more clarity to help dissuade those of us that any type of unethical business decisions, or questionable judgment calls are not on the table, or even in the cards.

He is correct, however. As per PWE policy they will not go into detail regarding game exploits, and I think you will find this is the standard policy for multiple MMOs. It is not a PWE thing.

A different interpretation of what Bluegeek is trying to convey is, "Trendy will not be going into more detail, no matter how much we may want her to, so it's a waste of energy to try to get her to do so, and I really do not want to see people issued warnings or bans over what is an understandable concern."

I have a difficult time accepting certain answers from Cryptic as well, some of their decisions I still believe they are wrong about (and they are presently recognizing how wrong they were for making these decisions), but I would rather spend my time and energy on things I can fix, rather than things that are out of my hands.

What you are going through is, for the most part, out of your hands. It is frustrating, it is infuriating. Don't let the burdens of a controversial decision in STO add to yours, for the sake of your own health and sanity, if not that of your loved ones.

My friend, Of course you are correct, and no , I do not hold bluegeek in any contempt.

To be honest, I feel a bit of shame, as I am normally the calm and collected guy in 99.99% of situations. I think the day has just taken a toll on me.

I call you a friend, even though you may not know me, I have read so many of your posts, that I at least have the most basic general idea of who you are, and enjoy it when I do see your prose.

I do understand, that they will not go into detail, hell, I can respect that even. I get it.

Yes you are right, I will not take his words personally, as I know it was meant for a mass audience.

But If I may, I'd love to present a quote from one of the masters of Sci Fi, even more pertinent today If ever before.

From the old Novel "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" I offer this as a friendly rebuttal. No sir, It is not TANSTAFL LOL.

    but this...

“I will accept any rules that you feel necessary to your freedom. I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.”

Ok, maybe I am going to much into this, and I did erroneously take Blue;s words the wrong way, and if I in anyway, offended, that is not my intention. It is just that I love this game, I love our people here. How often can a strict constructionist, enjoy the company of such varying view points, only to turn around and blow **** up?

Hell, the very fact, that you responded to my eruption of anger, shows me, we have a great community. I'm that guy who also respects others, even if we may at times disagree, just because I love to be challenged. but that is a whole other situation, and dichotomy of reality for the most part. Recall our Voltaire my new friend.

Did I erupt here, yes I did. The good thing is, I much like other peeps here, are blessed in many ways. We can fume and fret, and ***** and moan, here, instead of being that young punk prick who would go and shoot up school kids, or attack some other country like uhm... Canada? Canada is a country right ;) ? Seriously, that story hit me hard also as an old Marine.

But I am going off topic.

The point being , If I offended, If I allowed my own personal problems to interject with my own good will towards this game, I was wrong, but the only excuse I have, is that it is because I believe in the product. And I believe in being free to feel what I want, to think what I want, and to be free even though it is a private forum, without 1st amendment protection, (And rightly so, as I moderate the old SFC board Sirgod here) , I am still free to accept or not accept what I see fit.

In fact, my argument was not with the whole Them explaining or the the EULA, but the fact that I was told , I must accept something, when I don't. Hell I may even agree with someone one, but at a deeper note, I may not have to accept what they order me to to accept.

bleh, I'm just babbling, but I do thank you for taking the time to respond. In the future, I just hope that I am able to repay your kindness, in turn should god forbid, something bad happen to you and yours.

    @F9thRet.

I think an exploit is according Cryptic the following : You give a 5 year old kid a box full of Lego. Instead of making the proposed firehouse, the kid uses his imagination and builds a nice castle out of it. That's an exploit coz the kid used the means that are given to him to create something totally different and slaps the child on the ears for not following the instructions on the box. Shame, never block a child from using his/hers imagination. In normal circumstances and in real life, I would plant my fist in those parents faces who are punishing a child of being creative.

Shame, Shame, Shame on you Crytpic, you have lost all respect and credits with me.

Okay people having a go at Trendy need to stop it, you are falling for the higher ups nasty trick of using meat shields instead of them having the balls to say this themselves. The saying is "don't shoot the messenger".

Now I have supported the fixing of exploits, which in and of themselves neither good nor bad it is the effects that determin this. If it has a negitive effect on the player base as a whole it is bad, if it doesn't it is harmless.

In this particular case this mess up lies soley at the feet of the devs. As I understand it this was picked up and published during testing. It should never have made it live if they thought it was as bad as they are making out now.

They should grow a pair accept that they messed this one up and not punish the players for taking advantage of something, because as a whole it had no negitive impact on the player base that I can see. However as it so often seems with Cryptic they just let bugs and glitches go live with no work and then when people take advantage of it demonise the palyers, even when there is no harm done to others.

The devs need to stop passing the buck and actually accept resposability for this and reverse the punishments given out.

Discussing live exploits is whole other thing but it's not live anymore assuming the Dev's have done their jobs correctly.

Oh wait a minute, "assuming the Dev's have done their jobs correctly", if they'd done that then there wouldn't have been an exploit in the first place.

Let's for once talk about the exploit the devs are using in this new Delta Rising Expansion.

The freaking overload of tractor beams, immobilizing items and such without even a cooldown time. Geezes, you can't move your ship for one split second. Next time I'll go for the Brick T6 or Sitting Duck T6

It's a by the book risk management

Easier to blame the ambigous "a small number of exploiting players" than actually admitting a major fault is their own

    I have too much dissapointment

Easier to just write down the pink texts announcement saying "please dont do Tau Dewa mission, it's an exploitation and will result in punitive action"

Shouldnt be a problem if it can do xxxxxx@xxxxxx has received Benthan Cruiser announcements all day long

Instead they wasted our time and effort by doing...This

    They have done the taboo

    They have broken the trust

How long STO gonna survive ?

Would I buy zen if I know it's gonna die soon ?

For thoose whose staying what's gonna stop them in the future from saying this is an exploit and do whatever and say whatever they want to your accounts ?

Ok, so I logged in and found that my specialization points were gone and whats more I am unable to even slot the remaining ten that I do have. Initially I thought it was a bug and as such bug reported it. That is until i saw this lovely posted from the developers. I read it throughly, twice, just be be sure. I'm calling BS. My one character that just hit Tier 4 Intel Specialization yesterday never once set foot in Tau Dewa Sector and yet all but ten of his specialization points are gone. So from this I can only draw one conclusion, this was a blanket wipe intended to slow down all leveling with the direct intention of selling xp bonuses.

    So heres my official statement.

On todays date, The Development Staff of Cryptic Studios exploited its ability to alter the player characters wiithin game to further their own ends. In response, to punish their wrong doing, my wallet was closed and shall remained closed indefinitely.

In laymans terms, I will no longer buy another thing from your company. Another paying customer down.

my post from another thread because i didnt see this one)
    So what have i done wrong ? I lost 14 Spec. Points...

Playing this game now for 3,5 Year´s straight, but yesterday after 15 min. . I thinked *censored* and turned the Pc off, and went with some Friends into Town. Now my Head hurts, but it still feel´s better than this ......

that is exactly what i did,
    uninstalled
    pc off
went out with the lads for a good laugh

im not the type of person to demand things, nor am i the type of person to rage quit lightly, i very rarly speak out on things in this game not because they dont effect me but because i realise how little i am worth to the devs, but here is the thing

im OK with the roll back of skills-- if they:-
    1) warned us the MOMENT they decided not then wait for days for us to waste time they were going to steal from players
    2) done the roll back fairly and properly NOT wiped some chars completely some not at all that i know have done this suposed exploit
3)put a statment out properly BEFORE the nerf

basically over the last 3 weeks ive put about 50 hours into this game if not more and now all of that is gone, ive lost confidence that anything i do will still be there the next patch coz i might do something they deem as not acceptable

so i am done im out i will not be returning to this game untill my hours upon hours of work are restored

i know people who have still got millions of dilithium from the last exploit that never got that removed and they literally got that in the space of a few days, i got my specialistaion trees by running the delta quad missions the DEVS made punishing the playerbase like this will only lead to lack of consumer confidence and inevitable quitting

i will continue to read the forums and hope they fix it, i wont make a sweeping statement about how it will make thier playerbase dwindle, but im sure me and the above quote are not the only ones

    mal reynolds out

p.s epic marketing blunder there cryptic, distance your playerbase right when the market leader in rpg's is just about to release a new expansion, tho i supose you could blame any loss in log on time on that right not your incompetence

Good that you top priority to fix something that was not broken. Something that has been reported to you as of tribble. Shame that you force us the play your way.

What about my friends who still cannot even enter the game? Are they not worthy of your attention?

And why is there never a developer or even a director that has the balls to tell us what is happening? Why are you so afraid of asking our feedback? And if you ask for our feedback, why don't you listen? You still have a viable game concept. Together we could make this work. We are not asking much: Please listen.
