Not impressed with how PVE is now. Thanks so much crpytic for turning this into another WOW style game full of elitiest jerk offs who will do anything they can to keep gear out of anyones hands but theirs.

In all seriousness I have set it as a challenge to get as far as I can without upgrading any of my Mk 12 Purple gear. I am considering a console swap depending on further encounters with the Vaadwaur, but it's something I already had on hand and was not upgraded either. That may be a nasty challenge in my Vesta but so far I have made it to 55 without touching anything...

    Hey everyone!

The development team became recently aware of a potential exploit with Tau Dewa and after initial investigation decided to shut down access to the maps that were being used by the exploiters in order for the team to perform a deeper investigation.

We uncovered some bugs in the game that were being used by a very select few players for exploitation. Fixes to these bugs have gone live today that should remove the exploit. Details of the changes can be found in the release notes.

A lot of players were on the maps, but very few people took advantage of this. We have identified this extremely small number of players have taken appropriate action.

I really apologize for the inconvenience of closed maps during the investigation and for the bugs that led to the scramble around those maps. The team was focused on it, and due to the nature of the exploit, I did not want to discuss the details heavily. Now that everything is fixed, I wanted to let everyone know a little more about what was going on. :)

I'm 60 on my t5u Scimitard, DHC build that did 10k before DR, and I'm having no real trouble.

My Fed main has a new TSABC t5u (USS Leonard Nimoy), it's tearing the living daylights out of the level 54 stuff.

I blow up a few times on Normal, but I'm cool with that. On Elite, I can just barely solo the patrols, but I die a lot.

Obviously they weren't, because lots of people did the patrols like crazy - but the statement is that only a small number of people did actually exploit something.

Doing the patrols was a necessary prerequisite, but not a sufficient one.

I won't go any further than to say--exactly right.

Unfortunately HOW it was handled has been disastrous. Which just goes to show that it is not WHAT you say--you can be telling the truth all day--it is HOW you say it, and what you do ABOUT it, that matter.

thats what i thought, it was an unintended exploit and side effect that wasnt found on tribble but made its way on holo. it made sense at the time, now its confirmed. when i saw these people queuing up for these patrols, i didnt want any part of it, gut feeling was right.

not satisfied with her answer. at least tell us what was not an exploit. was the grinding for xp NOT and exploit? was the grinding to lvl ships up not and exploit was the people TRIBBLE the loot not an exploit?

too many things were going on to just not say anything.

Since the exploit was removed, anything that you can still do in Tau Dewa is not the exploit they are talking about.

A quick trip there would answer all of your questions.

Are we expected to just believe this? You know, the whole blaming a mythical group of scapegoat players to make the mob not mob deflection move. It may be possible, but so is a pig flying if you move it fast enough.

The players were clearly told to level up via patrols, so they did.

The fact players teaming up to level spontaneously gets nerfed so desperately fast, yet so many game-breaking bugs, some making even getting into the game impossible, are left un-fixed for years is a total disgrace.

No offense to the OP but you already told players the details in the patch notes... The entire patch was because of the exploit. It was nice to see you added a few other items and made it so we can play STFs again. Thank you.

The only complaint I know of is you nerfed xp across the board. It should have been just the exploit boost. World of ******** was a well loved game. People left when the grind become a full time job with little return. Anybody who isn't level 60 will have a few months of daily grind added on xp. Will you make up for this with more xp boost weekends? Possibly add xp boosts into advanced STFs? This would draw players back to the queued events.

Paying/grinding customers here are complaining about blatant incompetence. In addition, the Devs are scapegoating players instead of taking responsibility.

In real life it's totally acceptable to complain to a given company. But on the internet, we're all exploiter crybabies.

This sounds remarkably similar to Gecko's "14 year olds" comment. Guess cheerleaders got to cheer...

some wishful thinking, but then again there isnt proof in either case to be right. guess there is room for conspiracy theories at this point. im sure this would get buried before long.. whatever the real story was, its old news now. find out what else is new.

If it was an exploit, and it has been fixed, and variations have been fixed, a simple reveal of what the supposed exploit was would suffice for proof.

I'm a great believer in never assign to malice what is better assigned to stupidity, but there are limits. And Cryptic's actions have been beyond the limits for quite some time.

Not unintended exploit, deliberate exploit. No it wasn't leveling, though you had to use the same maps as people who were.

What Cryptic didn't advertise with their amazing new expansion is the new type of gaming they added. After PvE and PvP we now also have DvP.

this isnt the first time such an exploit came up like this, i remember once before a few players had exploited another less known means to get ahead like with this about a year or so ago, the team never explained what it was back then either. you may as well just accept what they offered because i doubt they will show just for anyone. could be any reason why they wont.

    .

Thing is, until they do, there is no evidence that this is not involving use of a mythical small group of players as mob deflection.

If there is a genuine exploit, it is a different issue. BUT, as all there is so far is an official statement made on behalf of a corporation with frankly zero expertise at customer service and management, I am very firmly on the side of doubt.

If you have been here for the past 9.5 seasons dont believe for a minute things would go smooth...for those who were expecting bugs and not dedicated much time into it...good call but so sorry for all the bad development of this expansion caused to other players ...

A hard lesson to those who haven't learned it yet, when Cryptic says 'release' expect what the rest of the computer world would mean as an open beta, with any possible wipes that can come with open betas. Only put into this game what you can afford to lose for at least the first month after an official 'release'. Heck, if I had any life at all I wouldn't even consider playing STO the first month after a new release ;)

I don't know anything about exploits...but today i found a lot of people discussing something about a glitch to get more spec points.

Nevertheless....i found myself with spec points reset from 15 to 10. All i did after lv60 was what was expected - farming dilithium via space and ground stfs...Approximately 1 day = 1 specialization point.

May I know why was I "shaved" 5 real life days of ~5-6 hours grinding nearly ALL Normal space missions? Can someone explain me what I did wrong? Should I continue playing or that is also exploit?

Good to know that everything is good now (at least in your opinion) that the exploits have been resolved and that the extremely small number of people who found this exploit have been dealt with (i assume)

so why was the XP nerfed across the board? this does not really explain that.

    ~LaughingTrendy

Well at least somone is apologizing for this i suppose!
what i do not understand here is your rather vague explanation that does not explain at all, please allow me to quote what you just typed above so you get what i am pointing at.

"I did not want to discuss the details heavily. Now that everything is fixed, I wanted to let everyone know a little more about what was going on. :) "

so by this definition you actually class this as an acceptable response? i certainly do not, i get that your devs would like to keep exploits a secret etc etc but really what on earth was the point of this post stating you are letting everyone know a little more when you clearly have not.
    Just saying.....

So considering I've never been in japori, my spec tree was capped and I was approximately 10-15 levels beyond that point, why am I being punished down to 26 of the 60 spec points I should have?

you have already had your answer in the really detailed apology we got at that start of this thread, did you not see the reasons why there?

so you have the whole of the spec tree's unlocked and was 15 or so levels past that? so you would have been on the dil reward at that point i am guessing?

Guys, the XP nerf MIGHT be a mathematical error, based on what I read in the patch notes about how XP is determined. Click here for an explanation of one possible way that could have occurred.

    http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=20152041&postcount=10

It would be a careless, stupid mistake that should not have occurred. But it is a possibility. How much of one I can't say because I have not run rigorous tests myself to come up with the exact XP loss figures but it is one of about three possibilities and has the "advantage" of being only a one-keystroke error and therefore fairly easy to do.

This whole thing is a mess, can't blame all members and those like me who venture into Tau Dewa and do it solo (without teams) shouldn't have been blamed also. I use those patrols for testing my weapons gear. Now I was taken back myself started to play my favorite online game a bit less. But you know what's happening if there is a drop in players since the announcement was made. SHUT DOWN! That sounds like a clamp down to me. After this now everything suppose to go back to normal. But there are other changes in this game why so many changes to effect the behavior of this game. Like your being forced to play a certain way. Delta Rising would have been such a fun new Star Trek, but as you can see not everyone here is happy about it.
