No matter what the cost is, it will be too much for the emotional acceptance of many, they are in a no win situation.
The no-win is of their own making. The entire game is convoluted pay-gates now. It's their own fault for milking the playerbase to the point of abandoning ship. The ONLY reason people still flock to this game is the Trek name on it. They're nickle-and-diming even devout fans away from the franchise.
No sympathy. The no-win is 100% their own making. This could be very much win-win, but they refuse to temper their greed and gold lust.

If they don't give people;e reasons to pay for things the game dies.... it's that simple.
I think they took all the wrong lessons from Star Citizen. They must've seen what SC was selling in virtual ships and decided 'hey, we can do that, too!' With store T5 (originally endgame) ships going for $20-25, they're actually costing more now to be considered (almost) endgame ships for another $5-10 upgrade.
Most don't remember the protests when ships started coming out at the $25 mark, but at this rate they're creeping to the $30-35 range, and it's getting ridiculous. I imagine T6 would have to be priced even higher than the current T5s or there would be little reason to buy T5s from here on out.
We support them buy purchasing T5 endgame ships. They respond by raising the ceiling and charging us to (kinda) keep them endgame ships. Way to reward the people who invested.
This cost and how much it will be is actually the most pertinent piece of information which I would like to see revealed today. There's only one of the new ships which I plan to purchase but several which I am anticipating upgrading.
I'll be purchasing the Mah'ta, and upgrading the following Fleet T'Varo, Fleet Tor'kaht, Fleet Kamarang, Fleet Ambassador.

The post you quoted notwithstanding, for me it isn't the fact we have to pay for things that bothers me; it's not knowing how much said things are going to cost.
and knowing the price today rather then tomorrow changes anything how?

We may not know the exact cost, but we have an approximate figure. 500-1000 zen.

exactly...as soon as this was mentioned I operated under the assumption all my ships would cost 1000z to upgrade and dil minded accordingly
Your pain runs deep.
Let us explore it... together. Each man hides a secret pain. It must be exposed and reckoned with. It must be dragged from the darkness and forced into the light. Share your pain. Share your pain with me... and gain strength from the sharing.
Ambassador, Kamarang, and anniversary Odyssey and Bort are not upgradeable at all. Need the fleet or C-Store versions, which will cost money to upgrade.
I'm not sure about the bort or oddy, but the other 2 are upgradable- at a HUGE price. You'll have to upgrade to fleet versions on each account (4 FSM each) then buy an upgrade token for each.

Just feel sorry for everyone purchasing the 9-Pack Dyson Destroyers a few months ago ... lots of Upgrade Potential there ...
Patch Notes : Resolved an Issue, where people would accidently experience Fun.
It was my understanding they said via blog it would be ~500 - 1000 zen. I'd bet on 1000 myself.
We'll know for sure after 1PM U.S. eastern time tomorrow - when it is finally all unveiled. I am sure hoping for the 500 zen range, anything else is hefty - at least for me that is, along with those players who own many CStore ships and bundle packs.
During the last livestream... Smirk said that it would be between 500 and 1000 and something about depending on what ship you were upgrading affected the cost. I might be misconstruing his remarks but that is what I got from it.

Also, I think ugrading lockbox ships is simply a good idea (free anyway).
Free Upgrades go without saying. You're not losing anything by doing it, and nor should you. Cryptic shouldn't dare expect people to pay for T5 Lock Box upgrades, not when the new Lock Box ships are T6.
As for Cryptic releasing a T6 Intrepid, Galaxy, Sovereign etc., I figure that may be years to come. For some reason they've decided they no longer want to pay royalties to CBS for the ships (bad decision, IMHO).
Say what now? They've already got the designs, so they should be able to use them (it's unlikely CBS would say no to the request of a T6 Galaxy). Worse case scenario (for that ship) is to release a T6 Venture Class.
I suspect a T6 Sovereign, Intrepid, Galaxy (etc) will be here a lot sooner than you realize.
you say about the iconic ships though, whilst I can't speak for all of them, a T6 Defiant, Intrepid and Galaxy are bound to happen sooner or later.

All, I can say is, I hope you're right! But remember how long it has taken Cryptic to *finally* release the 3-pack with the Dreadnought Cruiser!? People had been asking for that for years! And you know why? I give you Rule of Acquisition 82:
I'm not sure about the bort or oddy, but the other 2 are upgradable- at a HUGE price. You'll have to upgrade to fleet versions on each account (4 FSM each) then buy an upgrade token for each.

You can't upgrade C-Store Ody to Fleet to begin with. So, I'm not sure what you're talking about here.
I'm unclear as to why wondering the answer to a simple question warrants a snotty response? It just seems odd that this has not been answered.
I fear that many people will not like the answer to that question. It is indeed rumored to be between 500 to 1,000 Zen - However; they haven't even given us an answer to which ships will require the 1K token upgrade.

I find it discourteous, tbh. If you want our money, tell us at least how *much* of it you want! (And no, 'All of it!' is not an acceptable reply).
Yeah. Whatever 'Meet & Greed' they had, the price should be established by now.
It is. They might just want to trick people into impulse buying it. If you know the price before, you might think whether or not you buy it. And how many of them. But if you don't, you log in DR, you want to play the new content, and those tokens are taunting you. You buy them because you want to improve your ship, right now, so you can play, and end up paying more than what you would have, if you had time to think about it.
Like, for example, if they cost 500zen, and you buy 5 of them, not thinking this is the cost of a T6 ship, which are arguably better (or will be when fleet T6 are introduced).
Or perhaps they cost 1K zen, and they don't want the outcry now.

Same outcry then as now. You probably have a point about them wanting the players to take a different approach to buying content. Just throw the stuff out there (like they did for 9.5) and let players sort out the details at the moment rather than weeks in advance.
Personally I like this way better. I don't know exactly what I'm going to be buying tomorrow (first reaction: that's bad but that's also the most senseless reaction) but the flip side to that is I haven't extrapolated out what I'll be doing either. Could be leveling my T5-U scimitar, or heading out in a Matha raptor. Maybe there'll be an eclipse in the picture, I just don't know what my horde of zen is going to be able to cover. And that unknown right now is doing a lot to keep the suspense of release alive even though I've played through quite a lot of DR on tribble.
Through a little marketing trickery, there's a tangibly more organic feel to DR and while I'm probably the ONLY one here in this position, it does give just a little credence to cryptics incomplete PR scheme of late (its a cash grab, but you can concievably pull something out of the mess too.)

here is the reason....... they dont want the forums to blowing up from Cryptic/PWE greedy post over weeks like how season 9 was but now they just going to get in all in one day end of story i bet 1000 Quatloo forums go offline at some point tomorrow from all the traffic they are going to get

I think they worry that if people know the price they may decide the operations pack isn't such a fantastic deal/steal and not buy it. Honestly, it's the reason I haven't bought it. I don't know if I want/need everything that's in there, and I'm holding out to see if it'll be cheaper to buy only what I want/need by the piece.
Hopefully the anniversary Ambassador will be a free upgrade

Nope, its an event ship that didn't have a lobi option. Doesn't fall into the special exception list. Its not even upgradable to T5-U if I recall correctly.

With Cryptic its best to prepare for the 1500 zen opportunity. And be happy if its cheaper.

Aka, exotic ships sell, 'boring' iconic Star Trek ships sell less.

If I were Smirk and all, I'd be worrying more about Twitter and Facebook.
Far more public.

Be interesting to see if any media pick it up.
