Oh yeah, I've already purchased my Zen for it as well (real money by the way, no dil conversion). I do think for the player base it would be nice to know by now how much this will all cost, particularly if you are one of those people who may be upgrading more than one vessel. Its going to start getting very, very pricey for people who have multiple vessels or alts.
Players could have started thinking about budgeting with an earlier update (or if this had come sooner, maybe purchased Zen in blocks over a period of time leading up to DR, kinda like what you've done).
They should tell us. But theyre going to keep their mouths shut until the last minute. That way those who havent put money in yet, or converted. Are going to be forced to do so.
That's the event ships and while those can be had for free, they're really just a different sales pitch.
The hope is that people will either spend real money on them (at lockbox ship prices if they want to be first in line to own one) or that they will be drawn into game in a way which pushes them (or people around them) to spend money on other things.

In this case, part of the sales pitch is that they're equal to lockbox ships, hence why they get the same treatment.
if any players passed up on the opportunity to grab the event ships for whatever reason I bet they are regretting it now, I have 4 event ships that upgrade for free on each character and plenty of MKXI and MKXII gear to kit them out with, that is all I will need for what I aim to do.
I also have my vet ships that upgrade for free.
I will see how I am doing in a few months but I doubt I should need to use much dilithium upgrading weapons and I can do that little by little anyway.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
I'm curious as to if you actually believe any of your post, and if so, where you found any facts whatsoever to back it up.
I'd love to be pointed at em, just post em here, or if you're shy with your sources on a public forum, you can message them to me.
I really do. It's about the basic principles of this kind of thing, which our devs have been over time and again in interviews. I don't see how there's a single thing I said which was even arguable.
ZEN is money, obviously, though a small percentage of people traditionally spend if at all and not ALL ZEN is money although that's more of an accounting thing, largely where lifetime accounts go. More to the point, because some ZEN is purchased by advertisers/survey companies at a discount and ZEN can go on sale and payment processing and production costs of virtual items, the value of ZEN in terms of revenue brought in is less than sticker price.
Dilithium and time are a form of money in that they drive sales. Though this has historically been an underperformer and I'm sure things like the crafting revamp and upgrade system are ways to ratchet this up.
The devs (in particular, Geko?) have said that your time has a dollar value to them. Statistically, there's an increased chance of a sale to someone who is logged in. There are social/competitive forces from you being logged in that may drive others to spend money too.
This is why they have events to get people to login daily. More logins = more butts in seats. More butts in seats = more sales, both through the person logging in and through the other people that your presence (passively or actively) encourages to buy. Statistically, you logging in every day makes Cryptic money.
Congratulations, that's the genius of free-to-play. Rather than having 50k users pay $15 to cover $2 a month worth of bandwidth and a fixed development cost (within the relevant range), you get 500k users, 90% of whom spend nothing, to get the remaining 10% to average $20+ a month and you try to work at expanding the percentage who spend while also using the free players to get the spenders to spend more.
Every login has a positive monetary value for Cryptic, statistically. You are a percentage of a sale by you or someone else, just by being there.

then by spending money or not all the hours I am playing is potentially earning cryptic money, im fine with that, whatever it takes to keep the game alive.
so all the time I thought they were not earning much money out of me they were earning money out of me, I must have earned them a goodly amount the hours I put in every week.

That's actually pretty hilarious ... some time ago they said "Alien Ships in Lockboxes, because we don't want everyone to fly them" ... then came the Event Ships for everyone ... and now they actually make it easier to fly Alien (Event/Lockbox) - Ships because they're the only ones upgradeable for Free ...
If your Starfleet Captain wants to stay in an competible Starfleet Ship, please pay ... otherwise please F*** O** and defect to some Aliens ...
Guess I'll stick with my Lockbox Ships & Breen Ships (even if it feels wrong) ... goodbye Starfleet ... welcome to the Breen Confederacy ... can't wait for the Risian Invasion of the Delta Quadrant :P
Patch Notes : Resolved an Issue, where people would accidently experience Fun.
And it would allow you to potentially make other purchases while you wait. I have a fair amount of Zen and am hoping to get some more boff slots as it would be good to level their gear up in preparation. However, I'm not spending zen until I know how much I need for the ship upgrades and the Guardian.
We're close enough now that it wouldn't undermine any impulse buying. Instead, I'm just getting fed up with Cryptic because I can't plan ahead. They really have a gift for producing something everyone wants, but making sure a great many people are annoyed at them for doing it.
C-Store Ship between 2000 & 2500zen
Fleet Ship (depending) is also 2000 or 2500zen (some require five modules at 500zen each - assuming you're not using the exchange)
Upgrade tokens are going to be between 500 & 1000zen, lets say 750zen for the sake of debate. T6 ships are therefore going to come in at an estimated 3250zen.
This is for my own piece of mind. Now I know not to buy one.

That'll likely only cost a further one fleet module (though six will likely be needed in total). It's going to cost a minimum of 3000zen to purchase a T6 fleet ship outright.
I'll stick with my T5's for now, until many more T6 are released anyway, then we'll see.

Personally, I've decided to upgrade maybe 3 of my (non-lockbox) ships:
Not usually one to sound off about things like this, but the Expansion launches in 24hrs (in my timezone anyway) and we still know nothing about the cost of T6 ships, and there has been no elaboration on the upgrade tokens.
I wouldn't be suprised if cryptic is still arguing internally about just where the price point should be. 500 or 1,000 zen on T5-U seems like one of those compromise decisions between two almost irreconcilable points of view (can't decide on which would make a better blanket policy, so they just use both) and I bet T6 is another potentially contentious issue. Forum logic has pegged it at 3,000 zen (+1 to tier, +1 to price. Logic!) but you can certainly argue reasonably for 2,500 zen or less reasonably for 3,500. Its fairly arbitrary what you price pieces of a F2P game and keepnig to whatever pricing logic you've tried to create might be a little harder than we at the consumer side might at first glance see.

There is no way the price will be that low. They have to make them more than the T5U. This means 3500 or 4000 depending on the upgrade cost. But with what stuff costs these days I will not be shocked to see 4500 or 5000. Maybe with a 3 pack for 9000.

I own six T5 Fleet Ships, and a number of T5.5 Retrofits. The latter there's seemingly no point in upgrading anyway, they'd only (technically) become standard T5 Fleet ships then, just ... without the title.
If I give in and upgrade my T5 Fleet ships (I'd only ever think to upgrade one per toon anyway) then they'll eventually become outdated to the T6 and T6 Fleet ships. I might as well wait 3-6 months and see what other T6 ships Cryptic release, and save dilithium/zen for one of those, if at all.
Come launch, everyone will think it's a brilliant idea to upgrade their existing ships and ignore the newer ones, though I think, in the long run, this will cost people more (I suspect Cryptic are aware of this also). If people are going to be spending (what will be) between 500 & 1000zen per ship upgrade, and then further zen on T6 (and T6 ship modules)... that's a lot of cash.
I'm holding off on any new purchases until I've got a valid enough reason to do so. Same goes for these new weapon upgrades; they'd not be so bad if you could actually see exactly what you were getting after the upgrade, but as it stands, it's just some gamble. Bad call.

This. I think it's quite obvious cryptic want to make our current ships obsolete, so they can sell the T6 that will come. They'll be better and better, and our current ships will not be able to compete in the long run. Just like old T5 compared to new fleet ships and all. Can they be played in stf ? Yes sure, but they are far from being the best. And to be honest, you can bring a T4 or even a miranda in ISE and still win it. Doesn't mean those are good endgame ships.
They are just making it slow, if they just said plainly our ships would be outdated and we had to buy new one, there would have been a huge outcry. Meanwhile, they can keep making money selling T5 ships, box keys and upgrade token. It's a win win situation for them. For us ? Not so much.

People aren't stupid. For me, it's ere a matter of just wanting to upgrade some (what I consider to be) iconic ships.
Also, I think ugrading lockbox ships is simply a good idea (free anyway).

Just wait for Full-T6 Intrepid, Galaxy, Sovereign etc ... maybe with a new Skin & Custome Option & 3-9 Packs etc ... but it's bound to happen sooner or later ... I somehow doubt they're gonna keep selling made up Cryptic Designs for the years to come (because there is nothing else left) ... T5U sounds like a short-time money-grab to me, nothing else ... simply because i'm 99,9% sure it's T6 only from now on ...

Sure same with Event Ships ... but it's silly I'm kind of being forced to fly Alien Ships, if I don't want to spend money right away (kind of the opposite reasoning for Lockbox Ships, in the first place) ...

Cor, I'd be worried if this close to launch they still haven't decided. No, I think they've crunched the numbers and projected how much cost they'd make from 500 and 1,000 and settled on the final cost weeks ago. Which is why I find it pretty shady/suspicious that they haven't shared this info.

To start with the latter, yup, that's precisely why I want to hang on to a few ships that at least vaguely remind me of Star Trek. Don't get me wrong, I love my lockbox ships; but, emotionally, nothing beats parking, say, my Fleet Dreadnought Cruiser over ESD.
As for Cryptic releasing a T6 Intrepid, Galaxy, Sovereign etc., I figure that may be years to come. For some reason they've decided they no longer want to pay royalties to CBS for the ships (bad decision, IMHO).

Any source on that ... makes no sense to me, sorry ... they still have the T4/5 Versions in-game ... sooo these don't count anymore ? ... furthermore I'm pretty sure they don't have to pay "royalties per ship" or something similar ... they just have/had to pay for the general ST License ... so if they'll ever (want to) loose that License ... I suppose they could still release a T6 Odyssey, if they wanted to; but, oddly enough, and ironically, Cryptic always seems very reluctant with releasing iconic Star Trek ships. So, not gonna hold my breath for that.
