1) Let me get this straight Cryptic... Odyssey, Vesta, Andorian Escort, Bortasqu', Scimitar Dreadnought. We paid anywhere from $25 to $75 per ship or all three for the $50 price tag. Now we have to pay MORE to upgrade them, but *not* upgrade them. Not good enough to keep people buying your expensive packages. Also, wtf. So much for your new 'flagships' being top of the line with this message.
2) So you will upgrade the lockbox ships for free... Oh that is *great* news, are you going to start upgrading everyone to gold accounts for free too and give silver accounts a free 500 Zen a month too?
3) (My solution) Maybe (since you want to make money off of them) you should charge an equal amount on ALL ships outside the bundles I have mentioned earlier, or, (for an idea) allow for the cost of say 100k to 300k Dilithium, to put the ships under a 24 hour upgrade in which you cannot use the ship for the 24 hours, but it refits fleet + Lockbox + Bundle ships to a T6. You get people more happy, they grind, have their ships, or will buy the Dilithium, helping your paychecks. They would be T6, and the T6 ones you no doubt have ready to sell from the C-Store, will be equivalent to the upgraded - Not superior.
If Cryptic had half a brain (this is in dispute) they would offer an upgrade package where you pay a single fee to upgrade all of your ships. Or they would discount for paying players.
All these ships that cryptic made will be obsolete.
And that really isn't the issue.
Sure cryptic wants to make money.
Their will only be like 2 KDF (raptor & battlecruiser), 2 Rom, 3 Fed and probably a new lockbox ships that will be T6.
It took 5 years to get a good number of ships and now they will not be used. Only the 10 they have coming out.
This KILLS me.
Especially since cryptic always tells us how hard it is coming out with new KDF ships. REALLY hard. 3 ships in 3 years.
I don't want to fly a raptor or a battle cruiser.
I am enjoying the Voth and Dominion ships. Will cryptic remake these? Probably not, no.
I would spit out any fee to have some of the older ships as good as T6's.
It just doesn't seem right that their will only be a few KDF ships to choose from.
But that's just what I said it was...what you consider to be "standard" as opposed to what actually is "standard"...
Yeah pretty much. To a (maybe large?) part of the playing population (including myself obviously) "standard" meant "the best you can get because why on Earth would you use anything else?"
Nitpicking is a time-honored tradition of science fiction. Asking your readers not to worry about the "little things" is like asking a dog not to sniff at people's crotches. If there's something that appears to violate natural laws, then you can expect someone's going to point it out. That's just the way things are.
id just like to ask why is the no upgrades for shuttles?
wait what? people acctually use a thing called shuttles in game outside of what 2 or 3 missions? like omg!! still i agree makes me wonder what they have to say on that lol.
Because you can level up a T6 ship, get the trait and transfer it to your favorite T5-U ship. All that's really missing for T5-U is the specialist bridge officer.
According to Gongonzolla, upgraded Fleet, lockbox and lobi ships will be equivalent, if not superior to T6 vessels, because they will have more hull and shield hitpoints and one console slot more, while theT6 only gets the extra boff ability, 10 consoles and a "ship trait" unlock that you can also get from other sources.
Its really going to depend on what the new Boffs bring. Honestly free boff skills... and possibly an extra Space trait on a Bridge officer are likely going to very much be better then one extra console.
Really what we have to see is how good the new BOFF abilities are. If this is a typical Cryptic release there is going to be 1-2 of the new skills that are going to be completely OP in PvP. However if the new skills have very little effect on anything (not likely) that may in fact be true... that a bit more hull turn and an extra console may be more of an advantage.
I guess until we see details on what the new bridge seating really brings to a ship for PvP... we just have no idea.
I just realized my free Ambassador class star ship isn't going to get upgraded ether.. now I'm mad. I think I'll just stick with my current ships and play though the content ( which will take day /day and a half if the servers don't fail ( lol ). GG Cryptic . You win
I think people are really blowing this out of proportion. I should have had a heart attack and been done playing years ago if every time the game is expanded I got upset because new stuff came out and made my old stuff sub-par. I would have quit already. The level cap of the ships has been raised 4 times since the first "end game" ships were out. I had retrofit level 45 ships that became old when they came out with level 50 ships then those became old when they came out with lockbox/lobi ships and then came the fleet ships... now we will have level 60 ships... life goes on and new things come to pass. At least there will be road to improve you existing ships unlike in the past.
We don't know, what we don't know. We need to wait until all is revealed to make informed choices before raising our blood pressure over teaser bits of information.

Hey I'm not going to lie...if I had to pay $40-$50 to turn my Science Oddy to a full Tier 6 ship I would do it the same day it was made available...there I said it Cryptic...make it so!

Good question. Here's the breakdown on Fleet ships. Right now, Fleet Ships offer +1 console slot, +10% Hull HP and +10% Shield HP over a standard T5 ship. If you were to upgrade a Fleet Ship to T5-U, it would gain all the benefits mentioned:
-Bonus scaling HP
-Starship Mastery passive abilities
-+1 Console Slot
The short answer to your question is no. They will have 10% better shield and hull than the non-fleet T5-U variant and have +1 console slot.
Will the Fleet ships be T5U standalone or will there be 2 sets of fleet ships T5 and T5U?
I just realized my free Ambassador class star ship isn't going to get upgraded ether.. now I'm mad. I think I'll just stick with my current ships and play though the content ( which will take day /day and a half if the servers don't fail ( lol ). GG Cryptic . You win
The free Ambassador-class ship is a Commander-level ship. What in the seven TRIBBLE were you expecting?
If Cryptic had half a brain (this is in dispute) they would offer an upgrade package where you pay a single fee to upgrade all of your ships. Or they would discount for paying players.
As a paying player, I wouldn't mind this at all. Money isn't the issue, it's that some of my money I've invested has gone to waste. Odyssey is out of date, Avenger is out date, Mogh is out of date, Scimitars are out of date, Vestas are out of date... Not to mention my Galor, S'Golth, Wells, Orb Weaver, Mobius, Tal Shiar Battle Cruiser, Dyson Science Destroyer, Advanced Obby, Palisade... Top of the line modular ships that have 'limitations,' for example, certain officers can't be assigned to them because the ship will auto-self destruct if they do. Yeah.
Quiting won't help the situation. Not getting ZEN WILL. So if you want them to change, keep play...with your not upgraded ships. Don't get any of the T6 ships unless they are the canon ships you want. Keep playing is most important however. You playing costs them money. You quit, and it costs them NOTHING.
Having ARC on my hard drive active is not something I wanted to do since I had also stopped playing Neverwinter and Champions. I uninstalled it because of ARC.
Yeah pretty much. To a (maybe large?) part of the playing population (including myself obviously) "standard" meant "the best you can get because why on Earth would you use anything else?"
Yep, it went on long enough that we began to see 10 as standard and 9 as substandard. Thus so many of us expecting the T6 to be 11 consoles...I mean, it just seemed so natural that the the +1 was going to be +1 compared to what folks were flying and so forth.
I'm not disagreeing with the disappointment about the T6 boats being 10 console boats...I had started planning out stuff myself for that and now...hrmm, meh. Just a case of stepping back and seeing where Cryptic might have been looking at it and what that might mean down the road.
Did they do that so they could keep more T5 ships relevant for a period of time? Does that mean we won't be seeing Fleet T6 ships/etc, because it would put a hurt on the T5-U11 ships? Or is it something where they'll just do that down the road, trying to ease folks into it - maybe do another upgrade of the Box ships to keep them relevant to Fleet T6?
Meh, all I know now though...is that without Fleet versions of certain ships, my potential T5-U10s will be that much further behind the T5-U11s than they were when it was T5-9 vs. T5-10. Fleet Guramba? Fleet Marauder? Cryptic? Hello?
Basically, should I just look at whatever might come down the road at T6 for those ships?
Meh, each time they answer a question - they generate a crapload of questions in return...bah.
I predict imminent rage about the word "ZEN" in the following posts below me.
what an awful system. Now I am no longer just putting in only time to upgrade my stats, now I have to pay money as well!!!
you going to start charging me for rent on the space my ship occupies in a map next, cryptic??... oh wow, I just gave them another idea!
AND STILL... the b'rel will remain obsolete when all the ships, including lobi get to upgrade as well... i.e. forcing us to pay for T6 ships anyway to remain competitive.
What WOULD HAVE made sense is if all lobi ships stayed at the same stats and all classic vessels could upgrade. Then, you'd have a more balanced selection of all ships. but lobi ships gets to upgrade.. and for free, for that matter! I suppose the latter makes sense since we paid, in most cases, more than $100 to get the ships. Even when upgrading for free, cryptic still made a profit on those lobi ships.
the b'rel needs all the TRIBBLE that was taken from it back!!!!

Oh, and before I break for a meal... I think a lot of issues could also be resolved by replacing a Zen cost with a Dilithium cost.
You get a dilithium sink, players who are eager for a ship upgrade get one if they buy Zen, and you can actually make a ship upgrade 'earnable' just by actually playing the game itself.
Zen and Dilithium are interchangable, so the only question is which way to tip the market by adding new demand. Seeing as more demand for zen makes the price of zen in Dilithium rise, which in theory makes buying zen with money a better choice for a player on the fence about the dilithium price of zen, the better choice for Cryptic from a business standpoint is to have zen be the upgrade currency.
this all leaves a sour taste in my mouth, from what I have read and correct me if im wrong it looks like about the only ships that don't benefit from the free t5u upgrade are c-store ships.
that's so not fair, there are loads of us who have paid a considerable amount of zen on c-store ships and now we have to pay zen to upgrade them.
I myself paid 10,000zen (equivalent to $100) for the dyson mega bundle 9 ship pack and now I have to pay maybe $90 to upgrade them all.
guess I wont be flying any of my dyson ships very often once DR launches, that was a big waste of zen.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
I'm glad to see that nearly all the Fleet versions of ships will be upgradeable. But I'm concerned at this "zen" cost. The blog vaguely says that they'll be significantly cheaper than buying a fresh T6 ship, but that's not saying much.
Further - I find it surprising, and somewhat funny, that only the Specialized BOff seat and the Starship Trait, are what separates "T5-U's" from T6 ships. I'd have to know what the Starship traits and Specialized BOff seats are, to decide whether this was uncharacteristically generous of Cryptic, or a sinister plot to get us to buy T6 ships eventually.
I remain cautious and weary as more information is dropped.
