Thought I was the only one with this issue - Looks its quite a lot of people!
Same lag problem - launcher takes ages to load - login takes ages - character load takes a VERY long time
...and then the usual login_2 error

    Country: India
    ISP: Airtel Broadband

Was working fine a few weeks ago...

I'm surprisingly not upset nor I feel rage, I still like the game and I will not quit, moreover if something nice comes out my credit card is by my side...., I like you guys at cryptic, i understand that you are always between the hammer and the nail, problem is I just CAN'T play the game anymore, blame it on the ISP of half the planet (or not) the problem still stand and you are moving too slow. I will keep running tracerts every day untill i can play again.;)

I do feel rage because they don't even bother to come here and say something about this ..
Really liked game on my 2nd try ..
No end game and most bugged game i saw in a long time but still i had some fun and i really got mad when they ignored problem like this ..

They are making expansion and half of their player base cant even play the game atm ..

Again, for the I think 5 thousand time since I've been posting, you can't speak for even 1/3rd of the player base and honestly? This isn't half the player base not being able to play. It's a specific route that is being looked at and other considerations.

Some people (which is WHY we ask for trace routes, path pings and net stats) are having ISP specific issues. Some are having cogent issues. It isn't a quick fix either way.
Yes, I'm that Askray@Batbayer in game. Yes, I still play. No, I don't care.

Some people ? Do you even understand how this works ? I don't think you do .. here i will give you some help so your brain can understand...

If i have problem with my ISP not being able to connect to STO and maintain stable connection NO ONE CAN FROM THAT ISP ... my country have 2 ISP-s only i have tried from both and failed to maintain stable connection for longer period that is ONE WHOLE COUNTRY
add to that WHOLE ITALY and 70% of EU ISP-s
Can you do the math or i need to do that too for you ?

I do not speak for any one of players i am just collecting information's from all around the forums and doing the math how many ISP-s and from what country's are unable to log in and play damn game ..

    And so .. how many players have STO ?! 300k ? 400k ?

How many of them are from EU ?

    pff ...

EDIT: dont get me wrong with my assumption of STO player base .. it was pure guessing of players that log from time to time ^^
i dont think there are more than 20-30 k players online lolz xDD
With so many ISP-s having problems connecting STO i am sure i can say that from those 30k online players 15k cant even log in and maintain stable connection with no lags and DC-s and what ever lolz ...

    So .. half .. yep ...

Do you have any proofs that will show me otherwise ?

I understand its not going to be a quick fix. Not with so many different service providers involved. But for me its been 6 months. How much longer will it take? if I hadn't paid for lifetime subscription to STO, I would have long given up and moved on. As it is, I don't think I have much more patience left.

As you can see at hop No 10 Everything is going to pot. So my guess is that, this server needs to be taken down and fixed. I don't know how but please do something. After every maintenance, the game is completely unplayable for me. Also I have read this http://www.cbc.ca/m/news/#!/content/1.2737819 This could be the cause for all those instabilities and Lags and Disconnects. Devs please take a look

    Hi, I'm also having problems.

I'm new, and managed to get the game working this morning.

I would get connected then get a 'server disconnect' error pretty much after 30-60 seconds of playing and would have to reload.

Now though, when I try and start the game, I can't even get the game started anymore. I click engage, get past the cryptic loading screen, but then get stuck on the star trek romulan loading screen....no error message or anything, just gets completely stuck and doesn't do anything. The game is unplayable.

Gonna report on my test strings. Been having intermittent drops and server disconnects, typically peaking around midnight EDT most nights for the past week. Yes, it's Komkast, so keep your panties bunched.

    Hello again,

i have been trying to play from my laptop while being in another city (Rome) and with another ISP (Infostrada), same issues as with my main pc which is in Naples and uses Telecom Italia as ISP.

I REALLY don't think the problem is on our side, as far as Italy is concerned.

Did you notice that all of your 'ping' targets are not in the same location as where the STO Servers are located ??? Just because you can ping a different location fine doesn't mean you can establish a link to the STO Servers...

Use the 'Net Test' diagnostics to check for this...

If you can establish a connection to the network where the STO Servers are located, you should be able to get results like this...

    contacting nettest server..

If you're not pinging the STO Servers, then why do you think those results are applicable ???

STO Servers are located on a Cogent Server Farm located in Boston... And why aren't you posting your 'Net Test' and 'Path Ping' results, or do you expect everyone to read your mind remotely....

And my connection from the Silicon Valley has no problem playing STO...

I believe his point is that the problem are more related to something close to Cryptic's datacenter rather than to a specific customer's ISP. Thus this is not something we as customers can easily fix by going to our ISP's customer support. We have to wait for Cryptic to do something about it. I'm happy that you can play with no problems, but some of us have been waiting months with no tangible improvement to our connectivity problems with STO.

That's the point of wanting traceroutes, pathping's and netstat's. To figure out WHERE in the chain it's busted. Some people that have posted their results are actually not even in the realm of where Cryptic/PWE can fix as it's more on their ISP side, meaning it's an ISP issue. No options to pick Boston for pingtest.net .. shame ^^

Any one here by this time know that Cogent servers and internet hardware or lack of it lolz are problem and not our ISP-s .. but heh you fanboys have to defend them but that's ok ...

Why you keep writing how your connection is fine and bla bla ... you are US side 99.9% of people who have this problem are not from US so fact you are able to play means nothing to this topic ... hope you get that lol..

And one thing i forgot .. you wrote "" but is not going to be a quick "zomg fix it naow" kind of thing""

In any half decent company any one who write something like this for problem that concern bunch of people and decent % of whole player base would get permanently banished from EARTH ...

My mind just cant understand how STO thinks to keep players when they let people like you even say things like that ...

What the hell needs to happen to be "zomg fix it naow" thing ?? if it's not this .... i don't understand ... i refuse to understand ... lol ...

Its because Cryptic/PWE does not 'own' the Internet, and has no control over other ISPs and Internet Backbone providers. Even with Cogent Communications, (the ISP that Cryptic uses for STO) they only thing Cryptic can do is to yell to them to 'Fix It', and compared to some other services that Cogent hosts (e.g. Netflix) Cryptic is a small fish in a big pond...

What the hell are you talking about ? You are explaining things that in my country kids learn in 8th year of their life ...

Using Cogent as ISP is their choice and you have responsibility for your choices in life ... i don't care about "INTERNET" as a global but when they pick ISP like COGENT and it's a known that they are in a WAR with VERIZON and COMCAST and etc etc lately.... and that they cant provide even DECENT connection because they are greedy fckers and refuse to pay for expansion = STO is DIRECTLY to blame ...
I dont use NETFLIX and dont care about it ... but problem is much bigger than that ..
If NETFLIX is having major problems and we all know that he have priority over everything else what can you expect for basic users playing games ? LAG LAG LAG LAG LAG LAG LAG LAG

Pick worst ISP and saying it's other people fault not their own is funny but only if you believe what every .... person tells you ...

Edit: oh forgot to quote something funny ...

CEO Dave Schaeffer made his case in an interview with Ars yesterday, saying Verizon is refusing to upgrade the infrastructure that carries Internet traffic from one network to another unless outrageous demands for payment are met.

The network connections between Cogent and Verizon, crucial for carrying streaming video and other content to Verizon's home Internet customers, "are full," Schaeffer said. "They are more than full. They are so full that today a significant amount of packets are being dropped between the networks.

The congestion isn't only happening at peak times, he said. "These ports are so over-congested that they're running in this packet dropping state 22, 24 hours a day. Maybe at four in the morning on Tuesday or something there might be a little bit of headroom," he said."
