I'm having gawd-awful lag, too. It seems the culprits are Alter.net and something identified as pnap.net servers (Private Network Access Point there?) just prior to the Cryptic server final stop, they're regularly pushing anywhere from 300 to almost 600 ms on the tracert.

It's not new, it's been ongoing for some time for me. It spikes in latency, then settles down, lather, rinse, repeat. Alter.net in particular is starting to look as crappy as Cogent's servers are.

That's why SWTOR has EU and Asian servers.
You can play cross-continent at your own risk.

So both of you have shown that your issue isn't being caused by network latency... But what about Network Port access, sustained connection throughput, and connection quality with 'dropped packets' issues ??? This is what the 'Net Test' and 'Path Ping' diagnostics are for...

'Path Ping' (windows command 'pathping') uses the same syntax as 'Trace Route' (e.g. 'tracert')

and 'Net Test' is described in this thread... http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=225155

    You are right.

Your 'Net Test' results show that you can't maintain a quality connection to the Net Test diagnostic server. This diagnostic server is located on the same local network as the STO servers, so if 'Net Test' can't maintain a quality connection, its unlikely the STO Client can as well..

Now the 100% packet drop on hops #3, 4 and 5 may be false positives due to router configurations, (still might be something to check out with your local ISP...) but the packet drop with the Cogent Boston hub appears to be real, (and seems to be a common theme with many non-US connections)

Honestly? It's not half the EU playerbase. If it was, there would be thousands of players complaining. I'm sorry this isn't the answer you want, but I'm a volunteer not a paid employee so honestly I don't have to sugar coat it. :P There could be numerous reasons and yes, because 1 game out of the 26 games you play is having issues it still could be an ISP issue somewhere along the line.

Frost said they are investigating HOWEVER, the trace routes help LOCATE the problem. If you aren't willing to help figure out where the problem is then you can't expect people to magically fix a problem.

There are only 2 internet options in my country (ADSL T. and SBB) first one use around 80% of people here = you have 1 (nearly) whole country that cant log in\
Only 2 people who posted here are from my country one of that two is me .. and i am sure many more play STO from here than just 2 people ... but i don't see their posts ..

Now this would be true if those 'other' games were located in the same physical location as the STO Servers... Different locations on the Internet will have different connection paths and different performance metrics...

So you say its not your Internet connection ??? This is easy enough to prove, just post some network diagnostic results and show everyone the truth behind your claims...

Hmmm explain me one thing .. why a week ago + - i didn't have any problems with game and just after patch my game miracleously stoped working and not only for me but for my couple of friends too in same day in same minute ... (all peps from EU)
And no they don't want to post their problem here even tho i asked them to because i Quote :
We dont want to waste time on forums like you lol.

I find impossible to even imagine that problem cant be at my end.. not to mention we don't even use same internet connections ...
And now if you tell me that my internet connection is source of this problem then lol i will just delete STO and move on... why would i spend any more time on something that can't work on my internet connection ...
Tho wondering why did week ago game worked fine and now i have 2000+ ping when my internet connection didn't change in any way...

but before i delete it here you go

Its because the 'Internet' isn't like a piece of furniture that you move into place and never changes... The Internet is constantly changing, with new functionality and applications being added, ISP companies changing their 'peering' relationships with Internet backbone providers based on changing demands for bandwidth and associated fee charges, etc. And Internet backbone providers who insist that quality access to their customers can only come with higher bandwidth fees. In addition, you have the normal problems of equipment wearing out and in need of maintenance, etc... And if the problem is associated with one of the major Internet backbone providers, that could easily explain why a group of users are affected...

Now if the 'Net Test' diagnostic fails, then this shows that your connection issue is unrelated to the STO Servers, as 'Net Test' talks to a simple diagnostic server located on the same local network as the STO servers. So as far as 'Net Test' is concerned, the STO servers are completely out of the picture here, and the connection problems must be caused by something else thats connection related...

Now the 'Trace Route' hints that there is a problem with the Cogent Boston Hub (a on-going theme here..) as its network latency is greater then the recommended upper limit of 180 ms... but their could be other issues, as 'Trace Route' only measures network latency and does nothing to measure connection quality. For this, you need the 'Path Ping' command (windows command 'pathping' which uses the same syntax as the 'tracert' command...)

    EDIT: what's next lol ?

So 'Path Ping' shows no sign of dropped packets....

So the first question, is does the 'Net Test' diagnostics still fail? as network route connection issues are often load based, and are intermittent in nature... I also see that the network latency values for the Cogent Boston hub are a little high, but still below the recommended upper limit of 180 ms, which is better then the earlier results you posted, so you may have done this test when the problem didn't exist... (So you should always check if the problem still exists, as you might have missed diagnosing the problem because of dumb luck...)

Now if 'Net Test' still fails, and you have no packet drop, a firewall port issue, or ISP blocking of ports could create the same symptoms... A system issue with network sockets in the O.S., or a network hardware failure issue could also do this, but if you can connect to other sites this is unlikely to be the case...

After the patch, no change at all - still this terrible lag. This is going for a 5th day in a row.

    Sorry Devs, but here...
    • Italy (summer time & GMT +1)

... The issue is still present.
I've noticed, anyway, that that the issue was (and maybe is still) present from the morning to the late afternoon.

    Thanks!

Obviously something wrong with the server's connectivity. I find it hard to believe that it's on the player's side.

I am also having lag issues. It only started after last Wednesday's (Thursday for me since im in Australia) maintenance, before it, the game was working brilliantly on my brand new high end pc. Now it works for 30 seconds (yes I timed it) then lags for about 3-4 seconds, going back on its self to where my character/ship was the 4 seconds before, and it continues to do this. its a pretty big downer considering we have brand new connections, brand new modem, the works on our end.

    Sorry Devs, but here...
    • Italy (summer time & GMT +1)

... The issue is still present.
I've noticed, anyway, that that the issue was (and maybe is still) present from the morning to the late afternoon.

    Thanks!

What you need more to see the truth ?
BTW all this diagnostics are done with my wife using laptop and kid watching cartoons on his PC ..
But i don't think that have much or any influence on numbers

Actually, the truth is, is that 'Net Test' shows that you can't maintain a quality connection to a simple diagnostic server located on the same network as the STO Severs. Column 1 and 3 should have readings of 300 KB/sec or higher, and your system can only do that some of the time.... And if 'Net Test' can't maintain a quality connection to a simple diagnostic server, its highly unlikely that the STO Client can get a quality connection to the STO servers...

You will probably need to contact your ISP technical support team and request their help in diagnosing your connection issue.

And if 'Net Test' can't maintain a quality connection to a simple diagnostic server, its highly unlikely that the STO Client can get a quality connection to the STO servers...

And it is true that you have little influence on these numbers, as this will usually require the intervention of your ISP to correct... You will probably need to contact your ISP technical support team and request their help in diagnosing your connection issue.

You must be out of your mind .. i don't know who you are and what you are but i DON'T have any problems with my internet connection don't you get that ?

I have stable connection no major ups and downs in quality of connection my latency is ok only thing that suck is Cogent Boston Hub and that is not my problem in any way ..

Thing that i cant maintain quality connection with STO servers is what i am talking about but that line between me and STO servers have 2 ends STO servers cant maintain quality connection with my PC not vice versa ... i have friends working in technical and after talking with him like a 5 hours before this post he explained to me that nothing has changed in any way in last week on my internet provider and that only change can be on your end change that made all this problems to happen (maybe that patch or something i dont know i dont care) so your so called servers and simple diagnostic servers are problem they have some network hardware failure or bugs in software or what ever or they just simply suck as the engine of STO suck ...

And do you refuse to see or just ignoring that atm there are around 11 country's ISP's that dont work with STO and you want me to believe that it's their problem O_O !!??
Are you seriously saying that ???

How about that picture guys they say it's our problem go call ISP support LOOOOOOOOOOL ..

EDIT : oh forgot to mention i just loged on after 10 mins of launcher not responding and played game for like 10 mins worked fine as always ... dunno how long will that last tho xD

forgot to mention.. you are talking about this ?

    Port: 443: 172 KB/sec 10 KB/sec 186 KB/sec 500

And because of this you state my connection is having problems because 1 port out of 13 tested is not transfering maximum amount of data ?

I dont know what to say ...
Not to mention that there are 3 PC-s + 1 laptop connected at this same ISP and as i told you test is done with 2 pc-s runing on internet + 1 laptop downloading and surfing so ofc there will be some consequences because of that.

But to go that far as claiming i cant sustain stable connection is absurdly..

Care to explain and provide a source where i can confirm your claims ? Because more i talk with your more i think you have no clue what the hell you are talking about..

Ummm, wouldn't you have to say that its more then just one port is having a problem... And its not just the port, its the consistency of sustained connection throughput....

In comparison, this is what i"m getting this morning...

    contacting nettest server..
    Local IP: *.*.*.*

    Port: 80: 659 KB/sec 23 KB/sec 694 KB/sec 500

    Idle NIC bandwidth Send: 0 KB/sec Recv: 0 KB/sec
    hit return to exit

So this shows that the 'Net Test' diagnostic server is working fine this morning...

And I'm not saying that your connection TO the Internet is having a problem... I'm saying that your connection THROUGH the Internet to the STO Servers is having a problem. Your connection to your ISP may be fine, but that doesn't mean that your ISP, or the Internet Backbone provider they choose to peer with is fine...

And remember, I told you that Internet route connection issues are often load based, and are usually intermittent in nature... So just because its working now, doesn't mean it will always work. And if your ISP, or the Backbone they paying for bandwidth has over-subscribed their capacity, the problem will probably return when you hit the time of peak usage...

Ok i decided to kick kids of pc-s turn off my wife laptop turn off all games and streams i have going on and done it again to point you out that this tests have nothing to do with game working or not working ...
There are 3 internet connections in my house 2x ADSL .Telekom and one SBB
i didn't tested Sbb one due to it's work related and not being used for gaming but i dont think it maters .. they are close to same

THIS however can only show you how good your game is running nothing more ...
i have bad results my game is working higher latency but working , i have good results my game is working but when it's not working it's not working no mater what numbers here say..
Can i have this results if my game is not working ? yes i can ..

You dont need all ports to be able to play the games .. my game was working fine before even with my custom limitations to some.

and btw as i wrote this morning when i woke up game worked .. only problem atm for me is that launcher needs 10 mins to let me play the damn game ...

EDIT : oh i forgot to mention ........ what a strange thing ... i woke up clicked play .. and some small patch or something blitz thru my screen and my game is working again ...
    Strange ha ?

I have also started having some rather severe lagging/disconnect problems lately. It's making the game borderline unplayable sometimes, and is making combat (STFs etc) a nightmare.

Yeah that's how it started for me too ..
After couple days of hardcore lag i couldn't get past character select screen

i also started to experience disconnects after the last patch.
in my case they all happened when i was changing zones. happened today a couple of times, while staying in the same zone no problems but when loading map when changing zones was kicked out to the login screen, and only then.
again this started only after the latest patch.

    Here's how it goes:
    1. Takes around 1 minute to get the login menu from launcher.
    2. Takes around 3 minutes to get the game launched after login.
    3. Takes 1-2 more minutes to get to character selection.
    4. Takes 1 minute to load another character screen.
    5. When entering a character I usually get a logout timeout or 2, after which it finally enters.
    6. While in-game there are permanent lags of around 1 minute.
After 1-2 minutes of total lag, the game usually DCs again in 3 of 4 cases.

Exactly the same problems as described
Started with 31/07/14 patch and getting worse till now
    (and, yes, Europe also)

    Cogent Communications is so Cogent...

Its amusing that your 'Net Test' results match your observations when playing STO... This is one of the reasons why intermittent networking problems are so hard to track down...

Yeah right, a week ago the game works fine, and then suddenly all kind of different internet providers decided to TRIBBLE up our connection with cryptic server. This is big problem for the entire EU region and i doubt it is our internet the problem, since everything else works fine.
Steam - No Problem, Origin - No Problem (just mentioning them because they are US servers as well)

This is the pattern I am encountering : 20-30 min plays fine ... 1 hour of awful lag where everything is super-slow and frequent disconnects.
