i am not the best at PvP but with engineering as an example to leave the current boff seating as they are. engineering would need to get more self heals/team sheild and hull heals to be an effective tank hull heals alone makes a poor tank . this would in effect step on science and blend into them as right now science has probably the most used hull heal with hazard emitters and the most shield heals with TSS upping the shield DR and sci team which is how you tank and need for a tank.
Technically, Sci is stepping on Engineering's shoes when it comes to healing. Or at least where hull healing is concerned. Regardless, the implication that healing is the only issue here is ignoring any other potentially viable possibilities.
in PvE if you can't PEW PEW you are basically just a wasted team spot as even with the "shoot at me!" cruiser command most escorts can still pull aggro off. so engineering would need a way to buff damage stepping on tac even if it's just a few low level powers
I'd argue that because the demand for DPS is so overwhelmingly large in PvE is in fact a flaw in PvE itself, rather than a flaw in ships that lack sufficient DPS.
I currently use a fleet dreadnought for my tactical Fed character and thus far I'm learning that it is an exceptional vessel. I am also using a non-dread galaxy for my engineering Fed character. I like it overall but what I'm seeing is that the extra engineering boff spot is utterly redundant and nearly useless realistically speaking and it should be replaced with another tactical or science slot. Even that however isn't the main problem I've been seeing. It's in the universal consoles in reference to the lack of console slots available. What I mean is that unless you want to go without shield enhancements you're going to use up slots from your engineering and tactical since there are only two science slots total (on the fleet dread). Unfortunately this leaves it lacking in either offense or defense depending on which ones you choose but going without the universal consoles also means not having the full potential of the vessel so its a paradox. The galaxy family aren't the only ships that have this sort of problem so I have a proposal for a solution that would mean having limitations on the number of universal consoles any ship can have but it also means clearing up much needed console slots for offensive and defensive enhancements. Just suppose that a set of four or five additional console slots were added to every ship in the game and marked as custom. Additionally suppose the universal consoles were altered so that they could only be placed in these slots and nowhere else. This limits all ships to only four or five universal consoles but grants them the full use of all their other slots resulting in less showy powers and more offensive and defensive potential for all vessels. This of course is just a suggestion that would at least solve the problem of offensive and defensive potential for more specialized ships such as the galaxy and galaxy dread.

the trinity is dead and ineffective in STO trying to hold onto it and "make it work" and just detrimental to the most iconic ships int he game
I have seen a lot of players maxing their ships for 20-30k DPS and racing through a STF.
(and effectively killing all the fun for the rest IMO)
I hope IF there will be some solo STFs in the future, a balanced (offensive/defensive) build will be much more desirable.

According to Cryptic, there will be a system in place to upgrade all T5 ships to a level very close to T6, minus some special abilities that only the brand new T6 ships will have. If we're incredibly lucky, we may even be able to choose how our T5 ships are upgraded and thus add more tactical or science capability to our T5 galaxies. One can only hope.
We got trolled on the reboot. Sure the Dread made out ok. But the Galaxy-r still blows. I want to love it, I really do. But it's like driving with the Parking Brake on compared to any other ship. I reeeeaaaallly wanted to be positive. Give the reboot a chance. But it's not good. Come on, let's keep this thread positive. Delta Rising may indeed fix the Galaxy-R problem. We'll know when Cryptic starts releasing dev blogs about it. There's no point in complaining about the past now. It won't change the current situation in our favor. Our best chance is to make requests around future developments.

the ship upgrading devblog is the one i am most looking forward to. along with the new type of boff and if it will even work with the older ships or is it only for the brand new T6 ships

I truly hope Cryptic gives us the chance to upgrade old ships to use the new type of boff. Players will be most upset in their lockbox and fleet ships won't have at least some of the new T6 special functionality. It will destroy consumer confidence in paying real cash for endgame items and ships and that is what Cryptic must avoid at all costs.

They need to give the players a way of upgrading all the T5 ships to a complete and full T6, regardless of the price they'd ask. They just must leave that option. People come here to play Star Trek, to command the ships they fell in love with during the Trek shows and movies.
They need to realize that the fandom is a very strong thing and that people make backstories, logs and RP around their ships. People are attached to their ships. Ships in STO aren't gear they are our secondary, if not primary, avatar. Metaphorically speaking - they can't make a game where I chose to play human avatar, but then the developer tells me they're raising the level cap and in the new end-game my human won't preform as well as the all new human with horns - so I need to switch my avatar to a human with horns if I want it all. That's just stupid.

At the very least if you paid Zen for your ship there should definitely be a T6 upgrade plan. I was going to buy a couple more ships now I'm thinking what's the point, even the fleet versions of them will be outdated soon.
I was once DKnight1000, apparently I had taken my own name so now I'm DKnight0001. If I ask you a question it is not an insult but a genuine attempt to understand why. When I insult you I won't be discreet about it, I will be precise and to the point stupid.
I know it's maybe a bit late, but i had an idea about how to make Starfleet Cruisers more true to cannon AND give them something to compensate the lack of DHCs.
Originally i wanted to start a new thread, but since this would apply to the GCS as well, i hope it's ok to post it here.
How about allowing Starfleet Cruisers to equip more than just one Omni Directional Energy weapon in the rear slot?
Imagine, this would allow Starfleet Cruisers (and the GCS) to have a weapons arc just like in the series. (forward facing, instead of sideways)
They actually would have a alternative to broadsiding.
This could be the one thing Starfleet Cruiser could make unique, and no other factions ship can have. This would allow much different playstyles and feeling in STO.
What do you think?

i would be for this if they change the hard point so where it fires from the main array instead of the top of the bridge

Funny thing about making starfleet cruisers feel more true to canon... I think the beam overload changes went a long way to making that happen. I currently use two copies of BO on my fleet dreadnought with three boffs to boost shield penetration on attacks after BO (and all my beam arrays have the [over] mod). So I beam overload a lot. I really crack through shields now. I actually feel like my ship can do what the Ent-D could.

Except for fireing torps
Seriously, my point was to give Starfleet Cruisers somethig unique, something other factions Cruisers don't have.
They got DHCs, DCs and cloaks AND singularities instead.
"WE" only get a few mor Hull HP, but since hull is healed faster than anything, a bit more isn't worth to be mentioned IMO.
A 270degrees foward (Beam Arrays) and the 360 degrees rear (Omni) would make a much more "realistic" weapons arc for a fed cruiser.
I think this would be much easier to implement than lets say "heavy Beam Arrays".
On the other side i found it always pretty limited that Starfleet Cruisers had to rely on Broadsiding, while other Cruisers had the choice to use DHCs OR Beam Arrays.
I haven't done the math, but if 4 omnis are too much how about scale the allowed arrays, dependent on the ships turnrate?
A "fast" turning Excelisor or Avenger could be allowed to use 2, a Assault Cruiser/Star Cruiser 3 and the GCS and Odyssey 4 in their rear weapons slot.
Of course that s just an idea, but i think it could be fleshed out a bit to make it work.

Make it a fifth forward hard mounted weapon. Narrower firing arc than dual heavy cannons. Higher damage. Usable with beam abilities. Removed a rear weapon slot. The forcing of it to be a rarely used special weapon when it was blazing away constantly in the show is just killing my immersion, guys.
Next. The cloak.
Really, the lack of battle cloak and the forcing of it to be a console hurts. It hurts a lot. There's a handful of fixes to this.
The best option I think is to make the console a battle cloak. ALSO! Make it so firing the spinal lance does not kill the cloak (make it akin to the b'rel bop's treatment of torpedoes, more accurately).
My goal here isn't really to improve its performance, but rather to alter it to feel more like you're using the same ship from the show. I do understand that its performance would improve from this.. but the thing really I don't think it would break the game balance, really. Granted, I have no way of knowing that for sure but.. there's my ideas. I hope they're at least considered.
Hey, they changed it once. There's always a chance they'll change it again.. in a few years.. maybe..
What did they really change, you're asking for a major change when all they did was change the ens to uni and add saucer sep which they promised a long time ago.
Don't get me wrong I think it would be cool perhaps with your idea for the lance, but the battle cloak and firing while cloaked I don't really agree with.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
Well, I think it's pretty obvious that they aren't going to make it not a console. Folks have been asking for that for ages. So I threw out a new idea that would make the vessel more competitive, as well as unique in play style.
I'm sure if we brain stormed we could come up with other ideas on how to make the cloak console not a burden on the Galaxy-X. Sooner or later I'm sure the developers would see at least one nice idea they really like.
i think the fact that the cloak is a console is the essential balance and should not change.
i do, perhaps surprisingly, agree that the cloak should be a battlecloak. in fact, i think every cloak in sto should be a battlecloak. the logic used to justify regular cloak vs battle cloak (bops without hull) was thrown out the window when all the OP romulan ships were dropped on us in LoR.
i think its about time non-roms were let out of the stoneage and had their cloaks updated. surely cryptic have milked the roms and their glaring OPness for long enough now.

I'd argue that because the demand for DPS is so overwhelmingly large in PvE is in fact a flaw in PvE itself, rather than a flaw in ships that lack sufficient DPS.
STO isn't trying to hold on to the trinity, as I understand it. They want every ship to have a measure of each aspect of the trinity.

so would i. but then the galaxy still would not have a vary balanced boff seating and would take for ever to complete

that might work. Gravity well or the rift would help DPS but i still say all universal or commander universal
