I support the Mirror Universe Exploration Cruiser Retrofit
Cryptic could very easily address the complaints about the Galaxy class and its poor performance in-game by releasing a mirror version of the vessel. They could convert either the Ensign or LtCmdr Engineering slot to tactical and throw another tac console on it as well. From what i can tell mirror ships switch at least to types of Boff slots. Usually Eng to tac or vice versa. And sci to eng vice versa. With the Galaxies high number of Engineering slots one or more would be changed to Tactical.
Well what Fed Cruisers are left to release mirror versions of? Of the 'free' Cruisers(the ones you can get free by level-up), just the Galaxy and Connie. And Miranda, I suppose. I think the Galaxy is the most likely out of the three to get a mirror retrofit. Aaaand since the past 2 lockboxes had an Escort and a Science Vessel for Feds, it's the Cruiser's turn again.
Much as I love the galaxy, id rather see a mirror connie t5. Then I can use my Exter/Excalibur/Vesper at T5. Though don't underestimate a T2 connie running A2B, i sadly way out dmg people in STFs with mine lol....sad.
If they do a mirror galaxy it will automaticly have a better boff/console layout, which will make my fleet G-R sad. And for the record im not a huge connie fan, but honestly in a game where we already have 200+ year old ships outgunning/preforming 60 year old ships and newer, let the people have their T5 connie its been 4 years.
I waited 3 years just to get my ambassador, not like we don't see T2 connies everywhere any how, T2 T5 whats the diff you still see the same ship. And the Exter is a sweet design, sucks its not able to be used at endgame.

You forget that the G-R is a C-Store ship.
Don't get me wrong i am 100% behind this, i just say it's not very likeley.
But what i could imagine is a Mirror Odyssey Star Cruiser (you know the one they gave away for free), having a Galaxy Class Skin.
(hey, they could even release THIS skin with it. )

You're forgetting that in times of war crew size is increased in order to better ensure the survivability and combat effectiveness of the ship.
You anticipate combat damage as well as crew deaths so more crew has to be present in order to take over for their fallen comrades and quickly repair the ship before the next engagement.
Its that way in our current Navy and was that way during Yesterday's Enterprise as well.
yesterdays enterpise was a different timeline completely with a fully completed and functioning ship
in the prime timeline it is never shown or stated to increase crew size during conflicts. also with most of the interior missing where would the extra crew stay. they would have no purpose on the ship. if it was a fully completed one i could see it but these are ships just completed enough just to be space worthy and fight.
a crew over 500 would be a waist on ship set up like the "war" galaxies it's that simple most of the ship is sealed off
A simple solution would be to turn full customization back on for the Galaxy Dreadnought, if they have purchased all of these components for the Exploration retrofit the refit etc., and the Dreadnought, allow players to be able to turn off the Dreadnought graphics while keeping Dreadnought capabilities. Maybe it still show the laser cannon but the idea is you end up with a Dreadnought in a Galaxy's clothing.
I could live with that.
Unlock G-R ship parts, while keeping the huge phaser emitter at the underside of the various saucers.
Galaxy -X - Problem solved.(partly):)
EDIT:
Personally, i think even the G -X BOFF layout is rather sub par.
Why they couldn't just give it the same (or a slightly modified) D'D BOFF/console layout goes beyond me.
Especially since ppl where complaining about the D'Ds initial BOFF/Console Layout, which got changed into the one it has now.
So the question for me is, what does the D'D stand out compared to the Galaxy (game balance wise)?
They are both from the same era, both are meant to be roughly equal antagonists (behind the scenes).
Why didn't the devs give the Galaxy (both -R and -X) a similar BOFF/Console Layout as the D'D when they where making the 3-pack bundle? Why not take the chance and "fix" the ship finally?
I'm sorry i don't understand this.
EDIT: EDIT:
Hey,
regarding the Cheyenne and the other "graveyard" ships from BoBW.
I just stumbled across a interesting article at Memory alpha about them:
Derivative ship class studio models
For the "graveyard" scene in the "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II" episode, liberal use was also made of AMT model kits, No's 6618 and 6619, by Michael Okuda and Ed Miarecki, to create the kitbash models of the proto-Nebula-class, Challenger-class, Cheyenne-class, New Orleans-class, Springfield-class as well as miscellaneous floating debris. Though prominently featured in the "graveyard" scene, "The purpose of these study models was originally to develop starships that were clearly sister ships of the Galaxy-class Enterprise. (Remember, this was when nearly every guest starship was a recycled movie model.) I wanted to show that the Enterprise-D was only one of many similar ships with related designs, even if she was the largest and most powerful.", according to Okuda. [25]
Gregory Jein, Inc. made use of their own production assets in the form of the molds they had of the Galaxy class models, to cast parts in order to create various other ship classes. Parts were cast to construct the Niagara-class, Freedom-class and in particular the Nebula-class studio models.
So if i have understood this right, they planned to make the wide saucer design to be the new standard of Starfleet ships.
I think it's a shame they couldn't use those other ship designs more often. I think with todays tech, we would have had much more organic looking Starfleet ships in the late 24th/early 25th Century. (which i would welcome TBH)
Instead we got the sterile looking Sovereign and the revival of the Excelsior like design...

So i was playing the game the other night and thinking about all the recent additions to the game and some of the other ships available and to got to thinking about the poor state of the Galaxy.
Why when the chance to revamp the Galaxy did the Fleet Galaxy not get the Ens Universal, or a 3rd Tact console.
Why can escorts with a LtC universal, 5 tact consoles and a i win console be released and not be considered overpowered. yet 1 simple change to the Galaxy the ens Eng is dismissed
Why can another Dreadnought be released with 2 hanger bays and a Cmd Tact station, (Yes its a lock box but still available via the lotto or exchange) a turn rate of 9 and not be considered overpowered, Yet asking for the Galaxy Dreadnought to have a LtC tact station with no Hanger bay is considered making the ship unbalanced.
Why (I love the new kits btw) can kit frames and modules be released which buff ground powers immensely to the point, i can as a tact one shot Heavy Tactical Drones in Elite STF's, not be considered overpowered, but any changes to the Galaxy are ignored.
Why can more Ground and Space traits be released making you even more powerful in Space and Ground combat but again any reasonable changes to the Galaxy are ignored.
Rumours are the Negh'Var, the Galaxy's supposed mirror in the KDF fraction is going to get a revamp, be interesting to see what they do with this ship. And how it compares with the Galaxy reboot.
These are just a few examples of whats come this year, So as the title of the previously now defunct Galaxy thread amply said, Cryptic what is the Beef with the Galaxy.
Everyone knows the stance with the Constitution, The rumoured oh the head Dev just doesn't like the ship isn't a reason to make the ship so lame. After all its rumoured the Excelsior is his favourite and that ship ****** rocks, to hold a ship back on that reasoning is cheating you're customer base who want to fly their respective favourite ship as a competitive end game ship.
Can someone please come out with a legitimate statement as to why the Galaxy was not given a proper reboot, just so we know like the Constitution where we stand.
Thank you
Also in support of reworking the Intrepid and changing the Defiants ens tact to uni
So what if the BOFF system is getting a revamp in X2? That could explain why this issue is seemingly getting ignored. And why Geko said that current imbalance isn't gonna matter for much longer.
It might be wishful thinking talking, but if the level cap is being raised, I'm personally hoping for a captain(as in rank, not position)-level Universal BOFF position on every ship, signifying that BOFFs are getting a rank increase too, or even a functional First Officer system.
Called it. Sorta.
Stop getting your panties in a twist and wait to retrofit your Exploration Cruisers to tier 6 in October.
i guaranty it will be the worst tier 6 ship too
Two Cmdr. Engineering, 1 Lt. Tac and 1 lt. Science, lol. (6, 2, 2, consoles)
@supergirl1611
All valid points IMO, i'd like to know that too.
It's almost rediculus to see how superior other ships are. Personally i can't take people for serious, if they say the G-R (or -X) would be overpowered if it would get a uni. lt. or a additionaly tac console.
Heck the Fleet G-R is even outgunned by a Fleet Intrepid and massive outgunned by a Fleet Nova!
Thats not even funny anymore.
In my experience, only die hard GCS fans buy the fleet version (which isn't exactly cheap).
I'm sure almost everyone who has bought a Fleet G-R would also buy a Revamped Galaxy Class, if it's done in a similar way like the Tempest.
Let's wait and see what the upgrades to tier 5 ships give. It could be pretty awesome.
I don't think we are in the position to decide that, no matter what attitude some may have.
Personally i don't expect anything groundbreaking, especially not for Starfleet Cruisers and the GCS least of all. Except of the introduction of A2bat there wasn't a single good buff Starfleet crusiers got and there was none i can remember of that would make Starfleet cruisers better than before, compared to other ships.
Which is somehow ironic, since Starfleet Cruisers are by far the most important ships in Trek.
On the other hand, i can't seriously belive that if they would make them really good, ppl would stop playing other factions or other ships anymore.
I think it's similar to the Fleet G-R. Fans fly them if they are bad or not.
But the difference would be that these ppl. would have finally more fun when playing STO. Flying a disadvantaged ship like the G-R is simply frustrating and has nothing to do with fun IMO.
I am sure many people have left STO in the past, because Starfleet ships (cruisers) didn't come up to their expectations, especially when the un-holy trinity was considered as the basis of gaming.
Keeping people unhappy about something can work for a certain time, but not for years IMO.

and it is not just the galaxy, gecko said that you will be able to "update" your ship to tier 6 so that it stay "competitive" or "viable" but that you WANT to buy a tier 6 ship anyway.
that remind me of the romulan toon that was not getting acces to tier 5 fed or klingons ship, just tier 4, and gecko said that this was not a big deal because you WANT to buy a romulan ship instead.
and we all known why now.
so if they are so sure that you will want to buy them, if they made an entire expansion with tons of ship you can be pretty sure that the upgrade tier 5 ship won't be a match for tier6 ship.
just like it was not conceivable that the risian luxuary cruiser end up to be something less efficient than the galaxy retrofit.
they are a business compagny, they can not make an entire line of new ship that you "may" not buy because you former ship is good enought.the vast majority of player will rush on the new tier 6 for sure.
since the galaxy retrofit is at the threshold of tier5 ( meaning almost a tier 4 ) i fear the joke it will became when tier 6 come.
these ships will have acces to new power that all tier 5 ship will not have.
so forget about new power for the galaxy, it is not for tier5 ship.
i hope developer will not forget what keep this game aflot over the years, it is star trek fan.
and these fan don't want to fly generic sci fi ship that have star wars power.
ok, now i am going to daydream that the developer are preparing a new version of the galaxy and galaxy x that will be introduce directly at tier 6 will all the new power available:)
Let's wait and see what the upgrades to tier 5 ships give. It could be pretty awesome.
Where have you been for the last 4 years? I mean come on... seriously? The only way the G-R will be a good ship after upgrade is if we can chose our own upgrade options.
Even then your upgrading something that wasnt on even footing to begin with, unless we can completely chose those upgrades and modify the base ship layout i imagine it will still fall far short.

I like the way you think. Mostly because you seem to think like me. I was about to post the exact same thing before noticing your post.
My heart tells me - T6 Galaxy-R, with increased firepower and/or science capability as well as Boff station switch upon separation.
My brain tells me.....well the exact same thing you posted. But hey, at least it'll be a ship that can never be one-shot with the ridiculous new BO.
I thought i was pretty optimistic with that, lol.
The sad truth is, Cryptics dev(s) have made up their opinion about us and the GCS in STO long ago, i'm pretty sure they will make the GCS the same boring brick as it was before, just because.
If they where interested in creating a better version of the GCS in the past, there was no reason not to do that. But instead they reworked the Partol Escort for no aparent reason and they showed no sign of changing their mind.
Especially since the mood between Devs and Froum users are at a low point. And to top that, i think we are the latest group on the forum they are interested to listen to.
I'd be glad to be proven wrong.

i want to know what the new type of boff is that may actually be a huge change tot he gal-r depending on what it is
i am hoping it is a split profession boff with a main profession focus with a slight minor so you have a break down like this
tac/eng
tac/sci
sci/eng
sci/tac
eng/tac
eng/sci
would really help all the hero ships that are crippled by over specialization
But that would effectively take away the 7th, 8th, and 9th options that exist today, which is bad for the game. IMO, it is better to make overspecialization viable instead of crippling, rather than take overspecialization out completely.
But that would effectively take away the 7th, 8th, and 9th options that exist today, which is bad for the game. IMO, it is better to make overspecialization viable instead of crippling, rather than take overspecialization out completely.
i don't think it would the way i imagine it working in my suggestion is the split boff be limited in the sub profession at the LT level of powers.
so with a galaxy no TS3 or GW3. a ship with a LTC or higher station would still be better
the only way to make over specializing viable is to blur specializations so much it would not even matter
i am not the best at PvP but with engineering as an example to leave the current boff seating as they are. engineering would need to get more self heals/team sheild and hull heals to be an effective tank hull heals alone makes a poor tank . this would in effect step on science and blend into them as right now science has probably the most used hull heal with hazard emitters and the most shield heals with TSS upping the shield DR and sci team which is how you tank and need for a tank.
in PvE if you can't PEW PEW you are basically just a wasted team spot as even with the "shoot at me!" cruiser command most escorts can still pull aggro off. so engineering would need a way to buff damage stepping on tac even if it's just a few low level powers
the trinity is dead and ineffective in STO trying to hold onto it and "make it work" and just detrimental to the most iconic ships int he game

Cm. Eng

Ens. Sci.
3 Tac, 3 Sci, 3 Eng consoles.
A Boff Layout not represented on any Fed Cruiser, and would be a massive improvement (but then almost anything would...)
