We got a crafting update that will worthless to anyone who even knows the exchange exists, to get it we lost exploration and doffing got butchered. I'm sure when the foundry gets turned into exploration I will love meeting the lost caitian prince BLAZEITXxX240 and reading 60 pages of his personal history, 30 of them being devoted to his romantic conquest of BALLYJEY the underground kingpin of drozana.
Well at least I got a few new ships for my signature.
I care less about that and more about them doing something right the first time, not 20 patches after a release that went out way too early and was bug-ridden.
Lack of quality and assurance?
*nods*
Yeah, I can see how that has also been a problem. I wonder, just thinking out loud, if "Star Trek: Online's" production team consists of a handful of people? Two people could have technically put Season 9.5 together.

I agree with Season 9.5 as a concept. It's not a new season, but rather a refinement of a lot of systems. The idea behind it was good.
Putting it out with with the issues that people have been having? That's poor. It also supports your thought that the team may be waaaay too small.
The thing that gets me is that Cryptic has made erroneous releases to be their norm. It's now expected that they won't get it right. I also suspect that I won't be able to play for at least 4 or so days due to the Mac resolution issue that popped up today. (I'm hoping that the patch tnight will fix it. Patch 1 out of how many over the next few days?...)
How can people consistently get things wrong and not a) get more support, or b) get replaced? I've worked for Federal and State government departments in Australia, a major corporation in Australia and now I'm self-employed in the States. In my experience, continual TRIBBLE ups = getting fired or you customer going elsewhere.
You are right about the limited ideas thing. I accept that but continue to play as it's Trek. The fact that it's Trek is starting to be overwhelmed by Cryptic's gross incompetence and if they continue down this road I suspect they may start to lose players.
In general, a good update. Only one DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM entry.
The DOFF UI update was clearly spawned in the deepest pits of Gre'thor. It is incredibly confusing, ridiculously slow, and just plain ugly.
Other than that, I like...pretty much everything about this update. R&D is fun enough, the new uniforms are excellent, and the Xindi lockbox is really, really cool, but holy cow the DOFF UI stinks.
No offense, but that thing is truly awful in every possible way.
Other than that, though, I'd say it's a good, solid update. In general, I'd rate it 8 out of 10.

I will say it is growing on me, due to a couple of factors. With the old UI, I always had trouble with the little red icons. Sometimes it was a triangle and other times a square. It always frustrated me to no end that I couldn't instantly recognize that it was red due to not having something like incense or not have a doff for the assignment. Now I can instantly recognize what I do and don't have. Or, I hover my cursor over it. I like that aspect of it.
Messing with department heads is equally frustrating.
But, overall, it actually feels faster to me, although I'm kind of just hitting it like a slot machine.
If cryptic could produce a Trek game that had 50% of the quality Elder Scrolls Online had I can assure you there'd be a lot less disgruntled players.
Less, maybe, but one word: werewolf.
Every game does things poorly, it's just a matter of responding in a timely enough manner that the players affected by those items don't give up. Then again, that doffing UI... meh, they've got my feedback.
If you aren't a fan of the doffing, just stop doing more than specific assignments, using STOWiki to find the ones that are worth dealing with the new UI. Same goes for the crafting system, thanks to the ability to use it as a pseudo-Rep using the Research project. I'm certainly going to do less doffing now :P
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
Hi i would like to know why Romulan or Reman can't ever get new uniform's or use the ones that are for Fed or KDF? It is like they don't matter in game that they get passed over for everything. The only uniform you can get from your fleet's in the miner and the dyson uniforms that romulan's and reman's can wear. It is totally unfair we level them just like everyone else. I am to the point i am about to drop STO because i enjoy playing my Romulan but they are treated like TRIBBLE. It needs to STOP if you are on the fed side you should get to wear the Odyssey Uniform and if you are the KDF side you should get to wear the Bortasqu' no matter what race you are Romulan,Reman whatever.
"If you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything".....
I usually try to live by those words, but I just can't resist apparently...
I've been trying to ween myself off STO a little lately,... getting sick of the daily grind, etc.
And being a "Persistent Officer" from season 8, or was it 7? LOR, anyways.
(took a month for many of us to even be able to log on),
I've certainly lowered my expectations, and learned to settle for less.
I don't do crafting, and never will. Taking a pass on this was a no brainer
and didn't bother me a bit.
I do however, make a considerable amount of income through doffing. Or at least I did till now.
No biggy though, I've already learned how to settle for less, ...right?
And instead of logging into my 2 alts daily, I'll switch to weekly, monthly, or maybe never. Note to self: Re-christen alt ships to USS Doffless, and IKS Doffno'Mor.
But all in all, I'm happy to say, at least 9.5 has gone a long way towards my weening.
Maybe I'll go explore some of those planets in the sectors I always meant to get back to.
Who knows, it may even feel a little like Star Trek again.

Sorry to all for the self-promotion. I have no choice given the borked nature of the Foundry search. I have to take an opportunity to get a play when I can.

Eh.
I don't think so. I preferred the old system in every possible way.
Half my fleet is spitting fire over the new UI. The other half hasn't come online yet, but probably feels something similar.
The new doff UI is absolutely horrible..
I can only see a fraction of the list, huge amounts of waste screen space, can see less them half the assignments i could see before on the same screen real-estate, yet nothing new is shown
I can't see when the next assignments ends, heck the running assignments aren't even sorted based on which one will end first..
I have to hover over an icon to see what type of doff is needed, and sure the auto recommendations are better now, but I often don't put all my best doffs on a single assignment, but spread them out over a couple of similar ones.. and manually assigning doffs is an absolute nightmare now.. it doesn't even show which ones are the right profession, it only highlights the traits..
I've always done the doff projects on at least 5 chars or so, daily.. but this UI really kills doff'ing for me.. it's an unworkable mess..
Agreed 1000%. The 'new and improved' DOff UI is such an utter and complete piece of trash.
Cryptic must think that its players are a bunch of incompetent nincompoops who don't know the first thing about how to read a UI.
Who designed this piece of junk? It's such a joke.
Can't convert my data samples to the new crafting material all that happens when i double click them is a window saying you cannot equip that item pops up.
same here and not surprise that there is no fix in the first patch to fix some of the bugs that hit after this all went live.
This is the first time I can say that nothing in an update interests me. Roll on season 10.
prolly will not be a season 10 as the devs are working on the next expansion.

can I havez your stuffs
EDIT: I found a way to turn in your old samples for the new ones you just go to change character and log back in on the same one and it works came across this by accident . hope it helps the few that do decide to craft.
Since the Dilithium shops are closed, I didn't find any way to get something else than the white kit modules that you buy from Energy Credits, did I miss something?

Ever feel like Star Trek Online needed to be more like FarmVille?
Well, your wait is over!!!!
With he deployment of Season 9.5, you can have all the fun of playing FarmVille:
1. The New Crafting System will have you constantly clicking and waiting for your crops, I mean, projects, to finish.
2. Of course, if you don't want to wait, you can always speed thing up with Dilithium!
3. Out of dilithium? We always have plenty for sale in our Store!
4. Out of crafting materials? Luckily, we have that for sale as well.
5. Duty Officers? Yeah, you'll probably need a few more. What's that, you're out of room? Well, heck, we can sell you extra space for your DOffs; just visit our Store!
Heck, you don't even have to play. Just buy the parts and set your Script to do the work while you sleep through the night!
StarTrekVille Online. Season 9.GFY!!
(PS - The new duty officer assignment UI is complete TRIBBLE too)

Crafting is putting me to sleep. Literally. This is a very slow and boring process. This is far worse than rep grinds or fleet project grinds. My grand kids will have grand kids by the time I've leveled all of it and can make use of it.
IF you're extending the trade-in deadline for other Risa event items, can you extend the pet doff assignments. Many people still have a backlog of tags, eggs, and pets to turn in for marks.

Seriously Craptic. What's the point of tribble if you don't test everything. Seriously why mess with the doff area. seriously guys you do you have deving this game? seriously do you actually think about stuff. You totally deserve all the TRIBBLE you are getting. WHEN WILL YOU LISTEN TO US!?
It's good to see Cryptic generally listened to Tribble Feedback.
We said that the new Doff UI is pretty bad and the old one is more usable, but they gave us the new one anyway.
We said that being able to order multiples of a component would be a great idea, instead of building each component one at a time. So they didn't let us just simply tell our duty officers to build the components x number of times.
Still, even though they appeared to ignore us there, they did listen on some fronts. There's the Research project, so we don't have to fill our inventories with vendor trash to get our crafting xp up. There's a slider for converting materials, and they did split the doff list back into departments (it was all missions in one alphabetical list initially). Hopefully the research xp curve isn't as crazy as it was initially as well. So perhaps we will get a better Doff UI and other things eventually.
Please consider playing my Foundry missions: "Explore Delta Volanis, Mission 1" and "Explore Delta Volanis, Mission 2." They are meant to represent the Foundry alternative to the previous cluster missions.

Your first mission was absolutely fantastic and LEAGUES better than all the randomly generated nonsense that existed in the old Exploration Clusters beforehand. I'll run the second once the servers come back up whenever.
Hm... Honestly, I'd rather have something that works than something that looks pretty. The supposed 'update' to the DOff UI actually took away some of the most useful features;
1. It's no longer possible to sort your DOffs by quality and/or traits (for or against) if you choose not to take the game's automatic recommendations for an assignment, meaning that instead of being able to say that I want a White DOff with Unscrupulous for a "Exchange Program" assignment, you now have to go through every DOff you have manually to pick the one you want (since the game will automatically suggest Purple DOffs, including one-offs like the Caitian Flight Officer Liaw'an - what however his name's spelt - or "Law"). It's bad enough with only 100 DOffs, I can't imagine how the people with a full 500 DOff roster must feel.
2. The 'auto-assign' itself; the 'Department Head' recommendations were one thing, but automatically assigning DOffs leads to situations like the aforementioned one-time-only DOffs being 'auto-assigned' to "Exchange Program" or "Execute" Assignments if a player's not careful. Considering that even before there were occasional problems with that happening by user error, I suspect we're going to see an increase in newer players complaining because they ended up losing "Law", Rulian Mazan, Gul Tain, etc.
3. The "In Progress" tab. I'll be blunt; I hate it. I, quite frankly, DON'T really care what catagory an assignment is in, I just want to know how soon an assignment will be finished. They're not even arranged by Rarity or time remaining after the catagory, they're just lumped in there by catagory and that's that. Like with the manual DOff selection, something that was well-organized and easily gone through to find what a player was wanting is now confusing and chaotic.
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." -- Q, TNG: "Q-Who?"
^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...

Yep.. This pretty much sumed up my earlyer post.. But with better detail on how I felt, and how insulted I felt. But I guess I'm one of those who must be insane, because I don't like to do those things.
Of course I started to feel this way about the Rep/Fleet system.. that was the beginning of the feeling.. it took till 9.5 to truelly drive it home. I guess that was what the Rep/fleet system was leading up to..
But its ok right? At least you'll have plenty of the Farmville Addicts who also like Star Trek IP to now play, right? Who cares about the ones who want to play a game and have been trying to play and dodge this stuff from the beginning? Its all about the New or temp returning player right?
Cryptic... For me.. Ever since City of heroes.. you guys were "The Chosen ones".. I had such high hopes for Star Trek Online. Heck any game you produced, until I played it, I had high hopes for.. Champions Online.. Never winter..
Stop Doing stuff like this and further disappointing me! Stop making me regret paying for this life time subscription so long ago! I want to feel like I invested my money in something great! Not something that requires me to spend more and more money or time that I don't have just to actually PLAY your game!
I mean what do I have to do? Turn on my Web Cam, and turn my self into Youtube's boogie2988 for STO? Become the STO's version of Francis? Even now it's the Francis voice that's raging in my head over this TRIBBLE!
Cryptic.. your turning my Love for you and Star Trek into Hate. SAHP IT!
You think that your beta test was bad?
Think about this: American Football has been in open beta for 144 years. ~Kotaku
Having played STO since the early days and with almost 6,000 hrs game time I have been through many upgrades/updates, some good some bad. Until now I have never felt the need to complain. 9.5 is the windows 8 of STO. What the hell have you done to the doffing system? I no longer enjoy playing the game, time to look for a new one. goodbye.

SAHP IT!
Think about this:
American Football has been in open beta for 144 years. ~Kotaku
Sorry i missed it, what did he confirm?
Having played STO since the early days and with almost 6,000 hrs game time I have been through many upgrades/updates, some good some bad. Until now I have never felt the need to complain. 9.5 is the windows 8 of STO. What the hell have you done to the doffing system? I no longer enjoy playing the game, time to look for a new one. goodbye.
That made me LOL!
So true, though...
Now, um... we had a good laugh, but you can revert back to S9 now
