It was broken, Red. Or don't you remember going for a Trade mission, and getting three DOffs recommended for it just because they had the biggest bonuses, even though none of them were even the correct profession?

You can use it, it is just way slower and less fun. I can see new players really liking it because they run doff missions like a slot machine and don't take into account that some missions can actually kill your doff or upgrade your character's skills. Aside from that, I don't really care for all my purple doffs being assigned to TRIBBLE missions- it is a waste of time unslotting them. Some people will go crazy and say it is completely horrible, really, it is just clumbersome and time consuming. And not all of the mission information is listed where it should be listed. I'm not really one to complain about such things or even post on a forum. Just super bummed about the doff UI. Don't mind it in the crafting area, just prefer the old UI for the regular assignments. People will get used to it but won't necessarily develope any fondness for it. Still like the game.

The thing is, with the old one it would have the pre-assigned doffs, then it would have a set of 3 recommended doffs on the left. You could then go with the pre-assigned doffs, double-click on one of the 3 recommended, or sort through the whole doff list and double-click one of those. Each selection would auto-advance down the list of required doff slots, allowing you to simply work down the line in a series of double-clicks.
The current system pre-slots as well, and raises different issues. Take the Sell Prisoners to Orion Slavers: the last time I wanted to start it, the system pre-selected my doffs based on crit chance... meaning it wanted to send 1 Uncommon and 2 Rare Refugees, rather than any of my Common Prisoners. Compared to the old system, this is merely a difference in which assignments need to have their pre-selections corrected, right?
Except that that isn't the only issue. While there is a planned filtering/sorting feature (pictured here, on Twitter), each doff in the new system requires individual selection in a separate pop-up, that must be closed and re-opened for each doff you replace (or merely wish to double-check). This means that while both pre-selection algorithms have assignments that need to be corrected, the process for manual selection has become more time-consuming and less efficient. Further, where the old system would perform all of your doffing operations within a single window, the new one seems to like adding more windows to further clutter your UI.
It's not a matter of They Changed It, Now It Sucks., it's a matter of they changed its functionality in a manner that diminishes it performance and requires more time, more effort, and more wandering around multiple UI windows... and now it sucks compared to the old system. The new system is easier if you don't actually want to participate in the process of doffing beyond clicking Plan and Begin Assignment, but if you used to like to participate in the doffing process it is unnecessarily cumbersome, covers too much of the screen, and has a bad habit of trying to murder Very Rare doffs on Red Text missions.
As a side note, the person that came up with the "boatswain's whistle" when queues are ready to launch had a stroke of genius. That really helps when the doffing UI and its doff selection pop-ups cover such a large portion of the screen. Thanks for that, whoever came up with it, it is immensely helpful.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
The update annoys me. I filled the particle requirements for the upgrade to my fleet's Starbase, now I have to refill it with basic research components.

Yeah, our fleet had the same issue. I think that was a really poor show on their behalf, they should have ran a like for like exchange on active fleet projects.
Join date is wrong, I've actually been around since STO Beta.

I think the community is suffering from a terrible case of They Changed It, Now It Sucks.
I never suffered from that issue. Ever.
They could've just fixed the bug and moved on. NO need for this insane overhaul that has almost completely killed my interest in DOFFing.
(literally; the only serious DOFFing I'm doing anymore is star clusters and my main character)

If only there were some way to communicate this to the player ingame!
