Hrmm, guess it will be the ZEN Gamble Boxes - cause I'd rather do that than run Ground content.

Nope. I got a catalyst from the "Request R&D assistance" mission on Tribble last night.

All PVE content gives R&D packs.

Not as bad as the hype had me fearing. Looks OK, I guess I'll try this out.

All PVE content gives R&D packs.

"Gathering very rare materials presents additional challenges beyond just completing an Elite queue. Because these materials are hard to come by, we wanted to make sure that if you were rewarded with very rare materials that you'd know which specific material you'd be getting. This means that each queue, based upon where it takes place (ground or space) and a few other factors will only reward one type of very rare material. For instance, playing an elite space STF against the Borg, like Khitomer Vortex, will reward Trellium-K from all Advanced packs earned while playing that queue. Likewise, playing an elite ground queue against the Undine such as Undine Infiltration will reward Dentarium from all Advanced packs earned while playing that queue. To help players keep track of what potential very rare material can be obtained from a given Advanced pack, that very rare material will be listed parenthetically in the name of the pack (e.g. Advanced Queue R&D Material Reward Package (Trellium-K))."

Weren't the reputations introduced, because doing a specific STF for a certain item, which may or may not be dropping at the end of that specific STF, was considered unfair by Cryptic? And isn't binding the chance for specific VR materials to specific STFs (as a general queued event) the very same thing? Just a thought....

So the best way to get samples is to play the old content again! thanks for the new content, lead content designer guy!

I am not seeing how this crafting system is any different than the reps system.

Rep System : Play Queued Missions -> get tokens -> submit assignments -> level up XP -> buy new gear

Crafting System: Play Queued Missions -> get crafting sample -> convent samples -> submit crafting assignments -> level up XP -> craft new gear

am i missing something? or is this just another version of the rep system?

My response for the R&D Material Packs Blog (since we're obviously not allowed to discuss blogs separately anymore):

No blog about the ultra rare school specialist doffs needed to craft special items like Aegis & TR rifle? Why am I not shocked...

Also what's gonna happen to particle trace doffs?

How will we know which queued event gives which material?

    *rolls his eyes*

Why is it every time a new system or concept is introduced, it's used to try to railroad players into Queued Events?

When the Dyson Rep was introduced, we suddenly needed Cybernetic Implants to get the only equipment sets available. When the "Rep Revamp" happened, it removed the lower-level Omega equipment sets leaving us with only the ones that require Borg Neural Processors. Now one of the last bastions of independant play - the Crafting System - is going to require playing Queued Events to get materials for high-quality items?

For those looking for a leg up on their competition, Research and Development Booster Packages are available in the C-store for 300 ZEN. These packs includes: 40 R&D materials (15 common materials or better, 15 uncommon materials or better, 6 rare materials or better, and 3 very rare materials), 8 R&D components (3 Mk II or better, 3 Mk VI or better, and 2 Mk X or better) and 3 R&D catalysts that can be used to increase your effective school skill on a given project, yielding a higher chance to create a higher quality item. A bundle of 4 R&D Booster Packages is also available at a discount, for 1,000 ZEN.

    Woah.

I did NOT see that coming.

    At all.

    Honest.

So to translate the latest blog, Trellium-K is going to be worthless as pretty much everyone runs Borg space STFs, everything else is going to be very expensive as noone wants to run the horrible content they have for Undine, Tholian, Voth, ect.

Would have been better to have the rewards be random instead of trying to corral people into playing the boring missions that they don't want to play. Its bad enough having to do these missions to get rep marks, now having gone through that mindless grind you seriously expect people to want to go back and do it again for materials.

These packs will drop in ALL the queues, right? Every single one? You guys arn't pulling our legs here and leaving a few out, are ya?

I can appreciate Cryptic making an effort to get people to play a variety of PvE content, but they should also consider touching up missions that are not as popular.

Those who don't want to be corralled into the boring missions can buy the Zen Packs... which explains why it was done the way it was done. And I bet the most powerful stuff in the crafting system will need the materials that come from these boring, tedious missions in order to get you frustrated enough to go buy the materials packs on the Zen Market.

They know how to get the players to spend money... too bad they don't know how to actually PLEASE their customers.

I'm so glad different queues are rewarding different mats, hopefully this will give a boost to their popularity.

There is a reason they are not popular, they are terrible content that gives weak rewards. This is craptics attempt at forcing people to play content that is not worth playing, there is nothing good about that.

Not until some of them *coughHIVEcough* get fixed so players don't get endlessly one-shotted while trying to just complete the damn thing. Otherwise, items based on those materials will simply not be made.

Hopefully the Very Rare mats tied to the garbage content isn't required for anything anybody wants to bother actually crafting...that way Cryptic can maintain that garbage theme - garbage content, garbage rewards, garbage - garbage - garbage...

edit: Given the actual number of PvE queues vs. Very Rare mats, hopefully they do a decent mix of content choices for each of the mats rather than forcing folks into content that leaves them tempted to uninstall rather than continuing to play.

Not really... you are guaranteed the box at the end. The old STFs only guaranteed the item dropped to one person on the five man team.

I find it kind of amusing that people complain about being forced to grind "boring" content to get stuff needed for their unique new crafting toys they'll end up using in some other "boring" content they've been doing for years now.

Ahh, Cryptic - sometime i think you are trying to drive me away.
We chose not to play specific queues because they are not fun and forcing us to play it will not work. Have you not learned your lesson?

Different people enjoy different things...why do you find that amusing?
