Can anyone tell me what could be going on here. Im using a VoiP connection. Usually get good speed but it just doesn't seem stable.
Hard to say with these 'Trace Route' results, as the network latency is within normal expected values, but the range does jump around a bit...
For a more complete picture, we need the 'Net Test' results, (which test sustained network throughput), and the 'pathping' results (which uses the same syntax as the 'tracert' command) which looks for dropped or thrown away data packets...

So 'Net Test' reports that you have dismal throughput results...
And 'Path Ping' shows your connection suffers from lost or thrown away packets, starting with Hop #4, which is well within the domain of your ISP... You should contact your ISP Tech Support and ask them why this is occurring...

This is driving me nuts. Last night I was running some rep stuff and was constantly getting disconnects and then when actually being able to play I was getting timeout and then rubberbanding and several other weird behaviors. Here are the results. The Pathping output was a bit odd and the local stuff might be some tweaking on my NightHawk router (sweet device but just got it so I haven't messed with it much. I have a 45M cable setup and STO is the only thing I'm having an issue with. Anyway here are the results. Figured I would join the party:

For the past couple of days I been trying over and over and over again to get into the game..... but just cant because each and every time I try to log on it said this on the bottom left coroner of the game client "Unable to authenticate:".... and I'm trying to look for a solution but I just cant find the right thread or video to help me on this problem to fix the game so I can play it once again.... or if its a sever problem... it would be very appreciated if this would be fix because I'm most likely not the only one that feels the same way about this problem because I read the threads a lot and there are a lot of angry people that want good support but just cant get it... but I been with this company for about 2 years and great support but now I don't know if I feel the same about this company anymore... ... so if this does get fix soon I well certainly change my mind about the company again.
Looks like you need to contact your ISP Tech Support and ask them why you're getting dropped packets so close to your entry point into the Internet...
You also might be having issues with the Boston Cogent hub, so you also might want to open a ticket with Cryptic/PWE and see if they can complain to Cogent and do something about it...

What really gets me about this is that the numbers I put up there match what I've been getting today. Yes the drops are right at the beginning of BHN's network and I agree that's strange and I have a ticket open with them. Funny thing is I've got no problems with Netflix running at the same time I'm playing STO (watching Star Trek of course) and other streaming stuff going. Anyway thanks for the tip Grouchy.

This isn't surprising, as by Internet Routing rules, streaming media content has priority over 'normal' network connection when it comes to limited bandwidth...
Here are my results anyone tell me how good or bad it is?
i think the Tracert is ok but the nettest looks terrible.
...
So your 'Trace Route' is showing excellent network latency results, and the 'Net Test' is well within the recommended 300 - 500 KB/Sec or better sustained throughput, with most of your results in the 'better' range...

So what kind of problems are you having ???
lagg followed by the timed out timer. when the timer comes up its a 50/50 chance of it resuming game play or timing out. also i have to restart the loading screen a few times before i can actually get the engage tab highlighted.

Hard to say whats causing this. If you had a connection quality issue, it would usually show up in the 'Net Test' results, so it doesn't look like its a networking issue... It could be a Server Load problem, or something so intermittent that the network diagnostic tests aren't picking it up... There's also the possibility of a software conflict that only occurs when the app/utility attempts network access...
I've been having issues with all online game playing recently, but especially with regards to STO... hopefully the posted items below, will help me resolve whatever is causing the massive lag spikes, disconnects and all round high latency!

....
By itself, your latency values aren't bad, as the recommended upper limit given by Cryptic is 180ms for network latency, and your values are well below this...
However, your 'Net Test' results indicate a bad connection quality issue of some kind... most likely from data packets being lost or thrown away somewhere along your Internet connection path to the STO servers...
Try using the 'pathping' command, (which uses the same syntax as the 'tracert' command) and post those results, as unlike the 'Net Test' and 'Trace Route' network diagnostics, 'Path Ping' does test for packet drop along your connection route...
Computing statistics for 350 seconds...
this is what is coming up for it
This sounds like either the router or the ISP is blocking the network protocol that 'Path Ping' uses. You could try rebooting your router and try again to see if it works. If it doesn't then you really have no choice but to contact your ISP and request their assistance on diagnosing your connection issues with the STO Servers...
Hey folks, we're going to go ahead and close this sticky thread that has been open for years.
The reason we're closing this is we'd like people to open their own threads to get support instead of just replying to this mess of a thread at this point.
Thanks!

This isn't surprising, as by Internet Routing rules, streaming media content has priority over 'normal' network connection when it comes to limited bandwidth...
i think the Tracert is ok but the nettest looks terrible.

Try using the 'pathping' command, (which uses the same syntax as the 'tracert' command) and post those results, as unlike the 'Net Test' and 'Trace Route' network diagnostics, 'Path Ping' does test for packet drop along your connection route...

this is what is coming up for it
This sounds like either the router or the ISP is blocking the network protocol that 'Path Ping' uses. You could try rebooting your router and try again to see if it works. If it doesn't then you really have no choice but to contact your ISP and request their assistance on diagnosing your connection issues with the STO Servers...
The reason we're closing this is we'd like people to open their own threads to get support instead of just replying to this mess of a thread at this point.
Thanks!
