Rather selfish of you, isn't it? You don't like the change, fine, but to even suggest that the game lose players because of it? Are you serious about that? I'm sorry but you may not like the change but to advocate that the game shuts down because of this change is ridiculous.
I'm tired of people being careless and not caring a damn. Which Cryptic is doing very well. They can't fix bugs to the point to make the game stable. They lack the competence to plan the game on a grand scale from day one. They have no xxxx to tell people some ways to play better. They cater to little tantrums about power creep. They also dangled the stupid free stuff for Arc.
Cryptic is ridiculous. So, they created this. There solution to the abovet to change the reputation system taken out the passive people earned placing limits on them. Really.
So, What if I say people should stop playing or play a lot less? I see no reason why I can't be blunt about how the game is and how Cryptic is too is player base especially veterans.

I just annoyed and don't like bull TRIBBLE like this. I study business. I know no matter how much Cryptic is sugar coating this. It's bull.
Instead of choosing other avenues they putting a bandage on a problem they created. All in the name of money or whatever.
Actually what they are doing is much worse. Rather than putting a bandage on a wound that needs stitches they put a bandage on the right arm ignoring that it's the left arm that's wounded. Again I have never seen free ships solo a stf, have you? (If so show me)

I havent even seen a fleet ship do it. Closest that came to it were....guess, lockbox ones.
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.

Oh, don't get me wrong - can definitely see where folks would be upset. Just the sheer number of posts and the sheer amount of anger in them...well, it's no longer what might be considered an outburst and has even gone beyond what might be considered a tirade.
While not to the degree of what was seen in the 80s and 90s with some teenagers and PnP/tabletop RPGs - the tragic ends that came about there - it's eerily coming off as if there is a serious level of emotional investment that's been made beyond the scope of what one might normally attribute to a game.
But if it's just a heightened ticked off at Cryptic, by all means carry on - while I don't necessarily agree with the level of anger, it's quite easy to see where folks would definitely be ticked off.

Au contraire, mon capitain.
They've been fixing bugs, but because they've lost many of their original staff, it's been slow going. Nobody can plan out what EXACTLY a game wants, especially with something like this, from the very beginning. These things evolve. And Cryptic is starting to find that footing now because Atari was so incompetent. Cryptic is not going to handhold you all the way and players are going to disappear because they can't compete with people who want to roflstomp their way through the game. And Arc has nothing to do with this. Besides, the entirety of PWE dangled free stuff for all of their games too, not STO... oh, wait, PWE's games don't exist, just STO, amirite?
You're just hurt because your precious goal has been stomped on because someone realized they opened a Pandora's Jar of power creep and they're planning to try to put it back as much as possible.
But, seriously, I'm tired of arguing. And I think everyone else is, too. If it makes you feel better to rant and rave because of it, then by all means, keep going. But, sooner or later, you're either going to be exhausted emotionally, people will put you on ignore or, worst case scenario, you'll find yourself censored.

That's pretty much it you know? Like ok, the feedback was "This is BS."
Ok. Feedback received! And that was the feedback from like hundreds of posts ago.

I'll leave it as it. Cryptic is full is careless TRIBBLE. I just will remember no matter what veterans earn Cryptic will strip it away. I will just play less but try to help my fleetmates. TRIBBLE the company.

Play for your friends and don't worry about this stuff you can't control - it's better for your sanity:)
Fresh level 50's should know better than to que up for pvp (that's the only time the "power creep" would matter. Besides the fact we earned those abilities sooner or later people are going to notice your little pattern of behavior (making awesome things so people will spend time and money to get and nerf them later on) I have no idea what cryptic has been smoking lately honestly.... Several nerfs and now this  I am not looking forward to season 9... Even the new esd is worthless (it looks nice don't get me wrong) but it is incredibly spread out... Do you honestly think that we go to esd for the scenery? It has more facilities than any other station and it is easy to get in and out. Esd is meh (I'll be staying at ds9) but this reputation thing is just flat out bitc*y. And to think I was mad about this arc mess XD. No doubt we will soon have a zen item that expands our available rep trait slots reputation Passives are only a small fraction of the causes of power creep. Our only hope now is that cryptic sees what a mistake this is.
I don't know about others but I couldn't give a rat's *ss about PVP, it is truly a VERY miniscule portion of the game compared to PVE
Well the lovely thing is you don't have to. You are free to play the game how ever you want.
Nice that they are now making the rest of the game feel the same way. Play what you would like... you don't like Undine stuff don't do it... you don't like tagging Romulan rats, fine skip it if you like.
This change however for a whole bunch of reasons that have been talked about in 100s of posts already at this point is all about the PvE.
Cryptic is just catering to a crowd who don't want to spend the time to earn or learn anything. It's bull.
They are not catering to anyone... no one asked for this change. Think about it if they are making this change for people with NO rep after the system has been in place for close to 2 years who do you think was asking for it ? Yous the noodle my friend.
This would be like blaming school children for deciding they are not going to focus on Math as much anymore. Would you blame a kid for that or the people running the school ?
The new players they are thinking about are either not here yet or are not well versed in the game yet to have an opinion.
They have made clear why they are doing this... its about them being able to tune there own content for end game level toons. They can't do that if this is a game with players with massive gaps in numbers. Like it or not the current system allows you to stack a whole bunch of major bonuses. We can argue that they shouldn't have made the passives as powerful as they did from day one... or that they should have put this system in place from day one thus cutting off the pain the change causes now. Having said that its pretty hard to argue with it being needed going forward.
I guess the question comes down to this.
When new missions come out...
Do you want them to look like the New Mirror Universe Mission ?
Or do you want them to look like New versions of Infected ?
With out a way to ensure that no one is going to be earning reward 2x 3x or 4x faster then intended we are going to be stuck with Locked Timer missions that you can AFK in of you like because there is no fail and bothering to kill all the little ships that spawn out doesn't really earn you nothing extra. Yay fun.
So its a simple issue... do you want to have big rewards at the end of grinds... or do you want missions that feel like they are rewards themselves for doing them.
And I will carry on being a pure liability, until you come up with endgame content sufficiently engaging to make me crack open my wallet again... or I get bored with playing characters I can't improve, and go away.
How true... and the bottomline is... you nerf my rep I nerf my wallet... plain and simple... I'm aware it will slowdown my fleet's progress and I won't have gambling pleasure with lockboxes anymore... but hope those lazy power creep whiners and casual players will substitute those who invest time and resources in the game... 5 toons, 2 reps maxed, 2 almost maxed - t5 in progress... one toon leveling...
And free players too can become power players if they're dedicated gamers... have few of them in my fleet...
btw... just checked my game stats... 1789 hours in-game since August 2013... red tons of materials regarding game mechanics... and you're going to nerf that???

The Good for PvP: People won't be able to be both Super offensive and super defensive. People will die quicker.

The bad for PvE: People will pick all offensive and miss a few of the defensive passives and we will see a few weeks of forum rage because 50% of the players will be blowing up every few seconds in ESTF's

Yes for PvP it removes the old hybrid traiting where people where getting a lot more defense and more offense to go with.
People doing infected faster... yep very likely that will happen if they are going ahead with the trait buffing. (I'll be honest I was really hoping they would just leave them as they are instead of buff them... but what ever people will really turn pink then won't they lol)
Your right long term I think people might have to slot a heal or two... which isn't a bad thing. We are so far Meta wise away from what the design was its laughable. Everyone has access to a bunch of skills and all anyone does is load up the standard 4 or 5 high dmg options and find ways to keep them up as often as they can. I am going to bet most people these days don't even understand how a skill like Aux to Sif even works.
I agree with where your thinking is going though... alone this change doesn't get them to there stated goal. So I hope they have more changes in store... and not down the line. If they are going to achieve what they say they want they need to ge to it... just rip the band aids off and not drag these changes out over 6 months giving people a reason to get into 50,000 post threads every month.

Taking aux to Battery off Share cool down with EpTx - caused massive power creep.
Taking aux to Battery off Share cool down with EpTx - caused massive power creep.
No doubt... it would be number one on my list of things to fix. Its a simple fix to just put it back on. Problem solved... tech doffs are balanced again.
Quite frankly, doff and boff stackign is by far responsible for way more power creep than the rep system ever was.
They really need to change that so neither boffs or doffs stack anymore.
Boff stacking is particularly problematic with Romulans as it gives them insane and unmatched crit ratings and damage buffs.
Just one more big reason to get out of my Sci and into an Escort, so I can play like Cryptard wants me to play..
Typical PW MO.. Thank you for you time, money, and effort now go away..
Lets give a shout out to the bought and paid for PW/Cryptard fan boys.. WooooHooooooo!!!
You are in the process of converting me from an asset to a liability. This is not a good move for any of us. (Are there more like me? Enough to make a visible impact on your corporate balance sheet? I don't know. At the end of the day, I can only speak for myself, after all. But I can speak at some length, by jingo.)
Cyan antelope version: cross about existing characters being nerfed, want a different approach to endgame content than multiple rep grinds and endless trench warfare.
I was not going to quote the entire monologue, but I wanted to add that as another lifetime sub, and with PWE on a first name basis with my Google Wallet, I too want the cool stuff and buy or grind based upon my desire for the cool stuff.
Truthfully though, this is not cool.
I've read the majority of the comments, and see both sides of the arguments. Seriously though, taking all the grind that some of us has done, and limiting those options does not address items such as the DOFF issues causes me to hesitate on providing any more revenue to this game. It gives me no benefit to contribute towards an organization that does not provide customer service. (i.e. Hawk trying to justify these changes in a rude and un-empathetic manner... a player with <11 hrs of playing time in the game... seriously.. no wonder why you dont even understand the rep. YOU CANT GAIN ANY REP WITH LESS THAN 11 HRS OF PLAYING TIME)
Ok, maybe I have spent too much already, but since the 3 of October last year (as far back as the PWE Pay History goes as far as I can tell), I have spent 1680.00 in this game alone building out the ships I like. Is that pay to win? Yes. Did grinding the reps have anything to do with this contribution? Yes. It was because I could, and I chose to do so since STO is...er was my only MMO I played.
With behavior (how Hawk has been behaving on this forum) like this, and decisions (changing the rep passives) like this, I have no faith or confidence in the leaders of this game, and will not contribute to this game anymore.

Yes yes yes. If this is the first step of many including addressing things like technicians and possibly even Sup. Rom. Op., then I'll have nothing but good things to say. I'm hopeful that the will to put a change like this through, with the accompanying forum agonising, is representative of a new attitude towards building a sustainable game environment.
And if they pull more of this, this game will be nothing more than a glorified role play platform, because the actual game will not be worth investing time and effort into.
Though if Cryptic takes out Romulan operatives without giving romulans warp cores instead of the TRIBBLE singularity ones, that's the end of STO for me.
The only thing that made romulans worth playing was the critical chance bonus offsetting their terribly low powerlevels.
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.
You realize under this new system you can do things like select BOTH Nukura Tier 4 aux bonus skills though right.
This change is a major buff for science ships. Well at least specific builds anyway.
Really!?! And which builds would that be?? I've played as a Sci for years in this game and have had to respec numerous times because of their nerfs to Sci abilities. But thanks for the response fan boy.
And if they pull more of this, this game will be nothing more than a glorified role play platform, because the actual game will not be worth investing time and effort into.

Really?
Because getting past the paltry -10 power levels on romulan ships was fantastically easy for me.
Taking aux to Battery off Share cool down with EpTx - caused massive power creep.
I really don't understand why ppl complain about A2B when everyone can use it? So far the only ship that can truly benefit from A2B is cruisers. Using A2B on other ship types is kinda pointless.
And if they pull more of this, this game will be nothing more than a glorified role play platform, because the actual game will not be worth investing time and effort into.

LMAO ok this made my day.
The power levels where a way to balance the cores themselves. Have you not noticed all those singularity powers on your bar.
That is what you paid the -10 power per system for.
The boffs where a bonus that is all....
Yes ALL boff stacking needs to have a diminishing return formula....
And the Reman bonus to ambush times needs to be halved... right now having +25% dmg for 24s is sort of BS. Terrible design... and no where close to balanced. Very much not balanced when you consider those same boffs allow you to use your cloak on a 12s cool down. Its why the shimitard setups are so Over powered compared to anything else in the game... recloak for 2s eveery 24s and you have perma Ambush bonus. Its not an "Ambush" bonus anymore at that point is it. lol
Because getting past the paltry -10 power levels on romulan ships was fantastically easy for me.
Hmm an additional 10 points to power would give me over 180 extra points to my weapon damage each.. So I guess it's harder to over come than you think.

"Oh Lord, Please don't let me F-up"
Yes yes yes. If this is the first step of many including addressing things like technicians and possibly even Sup. Rom. Op., then I'll have nothing but good things to say. I'm hopeful that the will to put a change like this through, with the accompanying forum agonising, is representative of a new attitude towards building a sustainable game environment.
Though if Cryptic takes out Romulan operatives without giving romulans warp cores instead of the TRIBBLE singularity ones, that's the end of STO for me.
The only thing that made romulans worth playing was the critical chance bonus offsetting their terribly low powerlevels.
Really!?! And which builds would that be?? I've played as a Sci for years in this game and have had to respec numerous times because of their nerfs to Sci abilities. But thanks for the response fan boy.
Really?
Because getting past the paltry -10 power levels on romulan ships was fantastically easy for me.
I really don't understand why ppl complain about A2B when everyone can use it? So far the only ship that can truly benefit from A2B is cruisers. Using A2B on other ship types is kinda pointless.
Its not an "Ambush" bonus anymore at that point is it. lol
Hmm an additional 10 points to power would give me over 180 extra points to my weapon damage each.. So I guess it's harder to over come than you think.
