Its awesome and it's rechargeable so you don't have to spend in game currency which leads to less real world currency. Plus it was Cryptic's profit before PWE took over.

Why they could could make something similar and sell it look at the borg Boff. Maybe a singularity capicitor. Imean the Nova Console acted like a poor mans RMC even though it consumed a console slot.

Wow... I got mine from a bargain bin at Big Lots for $5.99. I always look in their discount software bin, they have some good finds.

Why do they hate the RMC?

Dunno if they still hate it, but they have hit it with the nerf stick 3 times at least, so clearly there was a time when they did. I mean, it used to raise subsystem power cap and give them all a boost (cap of 150 in all subsystems, and probably a full 150 in weapons). Nowadays its just a flat boost--it doesnt restore offline systems like batteries, or give you any of the secondary effects from EPtX.

I admit that I have it on every ship, and use it to try and milk 5% more out of the ship in certain situations, but I only use it once a day at most, maybe once a week.

That wouldn't be particularly fair to those who spent the extra money to get the collector's edition. I don't like the gouging now that it's out of print, but one has to consider the extra cost people paid for it versus the regular edition.

The entire point behind calling something collectible is that it is collectible -- not something that people will be able to get later in some other way.

There is a reason why a Black Lotus is worth a lot of money -- because it wasn't reprinted in later editions (just appearing in the first three).

Its been four years, those who bought the collectors edition got the goody ouf of their purchase of the collectors edition.

Just go looking on Ebay and other places. I picked mine up about a year ago for $20AU and it came with some free uniforms and the other goodies. While I only use the RMC as I don;t play Fed anymore, there are still cheap copies out there you just need to look and be patient.

Its funny how some players are looking for this thing now. I have always liked using it. It goes on every ship i have. Really underrated item if you ask me.

Got mine with my Gold Edition (UK Customer) when game first came out, so always had it.

But I did manage to find another copy of Gold on Ebay only 3-4 months ago (Brand new Sealed), Purchased it for around ?7.00 and managed to get a Red matter and month of Gold membership on my alternate account. :D

Might still be some on Ebay.

As someone who paid too much for it a few months ago, I have to say I'd actually be happy if other people could buy it and there weren't only X amount of RMC's still available, even if the cost dropped through the floor.

Perhaps the collector's edition shouldn't be "reprinted," so to speak, but I'd like to see at least that part be available through other means. Though if I recall correctly, the devs had said this wasn't happening, though not too sure on that.

Limited time rewards are limited for a reason. You snooze, you lose. If you're a new player then you miss out on them. Welcome to the world of MMOs, this is not exclusive to STO or the RMC.

Should we also make all of the Tribble test awards available to everyone as well? I still kick myself for skipping out on the season 5 testing but you don't see me making a whine thread pleading for the devs to give me access to the Radan tribble.

Would you still make this complaint thread if the RMC was part of the Lifetime sub instead of a limited physical boxed copy?

Cryptic had no issues selling out most other "exclusive" stuff. Requesting the same treatment for the RMC, the only such item with actual endgame relevance, is imo justified.

It would be nice for all playing STO to be able to acquire the RMC or any item for that matter. However, there should also be limited items for certain occassions. I do not have a RMC upon my account though I have searched the internet for a cheap Collector's just like I am sure many have. It would be nice to have use of a RMC indeed, but I try to keep in mind that most of those players that do have that item or anyother item which is limited has done so through diligence & dedication to a fun game. Congratulations to any that have the RMC. Besides there are always the lesser quality but consoles: Enhanced Plasma Manifold & the Enhanced Induction Coils along with devices. All still can be useful, but definitely not as great as the RMC.

Would it be great to have a RMC ... absolutely.

Do I think I should be able to acquire one even though I don't have a Collector's ... no.

Like I said, they're not "lesser quality," they're worthless, because they're half a rmc that take console slots. Move them to battery, then they're viable.

I got mine about a year after launch. Got 2 copies and the silly thing was it costing less for me to ship both of them from the US, than it was to buy them here in the UK.

It's been like that for a LONG time (think years). At this point I have no idea if it's at the absolute bottom of their priority barrel or deliberate.

I will agree its time to release this one to everyone.

Pretty much every game ever made... items that came in special editions that made a difference to game play where not exclusive for more then a few months. (cryptic has no idea of PvP balance obviously).

The only things that are OK for special editions to keep exclusive forever as I see are cosmetic ones. Things like Titles uniforms ect... those don't effect game play.

They should have put the red matter into the new lockbox perhaps more people would be tempted to open that box. lol

im kinda on board with leaving it to the people who chose to invest more into the game when it first came out.. not continuously rewarding the peeps who waited till it went free to play to give it a try.

the red matter capacitor and other stuff that we paid extra for, 4 years ago, should stay unique to those who have it.. if you want it.. take the gamble. spend a little more, and get it off ebay...

I bought the game when it came out, I didn't drop 20 bucks extra on the game... Perhaps I would have if I honestly thought crytpic would be the sort of company that would be bundling actual PvP game play advantages in the box. Every other MMO I have ever picked up and played had fun toys in the collectors sure but game play effecting items where never exclusive forever. When I looked at the box and saw a bunch of RP junk and a non consumable consumable... I thought ok thats cool... there will be a consumable in game then that will be =... or they will release that item later anyway.

Also lets be honest... when the game launched very few people picked up the collectors. It is sort of why you still can find the odd sealed copy 4 YEARS later.

Most people that have the red matter bought them in bargin bins for next to nothing a year or more after they had picked up the game at launch.

than I suggest you start looking in bargain bins...

first off. your mistake for not forking over the extra 20... also, I can still find a sealed vanillia version of wow online. this game was actually pretty popular in the begning.. the player base has wayned off in the recent years..

I have close to 500 contacts ingame.. I think less than a quarter of them did not purchase the collectors edition.. and since all the "rp" TRIBBLE was already made available to everyone via the c store, I will say that this can be the one thing we hold dear to the supporters of star trek..

I still vote no on making this available to everyone else.. it doesn't even work right anyways.. get some batteries, and learn to work around it.. honestly, at this point in the game, the red matter capacitor is kinda meh.. its not as usefull as it once was (not saying it is not usefull at all. but if your building your ship right, youll have super high powers all around anyways..

you know.. there is no such thing as a dell taco around my parts.. and I still cant get the shuttle pet.. I have not made it to a convention to get the code to get the limited doffs they give out.. but I look at it for what it is.. something that I have to pony up to get.. I missed the time when you could get the rechargeable batteries.. I still want those, but I understand that I missed it..

I will be deaply saddened and hurt if they release the red matter capacitor in the c store.. ill compromise, and say they can release something like it that gives a slightly less bonus to power..

Offering exclusive items in "collectible" boxes again is bad business.

In the art world when an artist makes a limited edition print, it's illegal to make more of those prints later.

If Hasbro were to reprint the Black Lotus, Moxes, and so on there would probably be lawsuits. At best, there would likely be a mass boycott of the game.

If other gaming companies have gone back on their word I guess they're fortunate that they haven't been served. The gaming industry seems to have more latitude (in practice, not necessarily in law) in some respects, a point made numerous times in terms of EA's handling of SimCity.

The best they could do is make a similar item with a different name. It would have to be a little bit inferior, too.

Wow, so much fire left and righ. You can get equal or better constant results with at least 213 skill speced into flow caps and the plasmonic leech console. Just throw a full human crew and Energy Siphon 2 and 3 and you're all set with full power and subsystem disable protection. Saying this thing is necessary to win is false. I don't have it, and I don't need it.

They should release a device that's better then the red matter capacitor. Collector edition bonuses are suppose to be fluff.

The red matter capacitor is huge (insanely) to a battery build.

Something with a comparable mechanic should be in game

Sometimes agreements don't hold up in court. I assume that something that is marketed as limited edition and/or collectible and which has the thing(s) associated with that collectibility made available at a future time in another form would be grounds for a suit. The art world, for instance, has a long and clear history about what it means to be limited edition. A lawyer could argue that the general consumer expectation is what should carry the day, not the fine print.

Many companies use EULAs and such that won't hold up, but assume (generally correctly) that they aren't going to have to defend them.

Plus. being able to do something and having that something be an example of good business practice aren't always synonymous.

Do I want a red matter capacitor? Sure. Would it be fair to just put them into the game without the collector's edition being purchased by the player? No -- not unless it was clearly marketed as a limited-time advantage.

That's a good point... been awhile since we have seen reusable shield bats and such around.

Perhaps next box could include a Red Matter Device... they just need to call it the ZPM. Might as well fold the SG fans in. :) lol

Really though good point just create an almost identical device.

I honestly doubt I would use it that much... which is why I never went out of my way to find a copy of the collectors... still I don't like things existing that provide advantages to some builds that are simply not freely avalible.

Forget that! It's bad enough that any cruddy life time subber has access to the Pre Release Liberated Borg Captain bonus that was suppose to be just for those of us that bought the sub prior to launch... give away the red matter cap as well - what are we left with - the rifle which I lost my code for, and my joined trill that I haven't played in forever

After 4 years in its a little long to be feeling entitled isn't it. No collectors edition or limited time offer or anything of the like in this game has ever said, "yours and only yours forever". They drop old lockboxs between current ones... they release old ship promos in doff packs.

"limited time offer" until the next limited time offer... its the way the world works.

Or do you guys believe the local car dealer you have down the street no doubt (as every city does)... when they say they are going out of business everything must go. I guess you guys are the ones that have yet to catch on that they go out of business every few months at least a couple times. lol

Hasbro isn't going to reprint the Black Lotus for a reason.
