I don't think it is a sense of entitlement or anything from being an early adopter, but collectible or limited release are supposed to be just that. I think it defeats the purpose of offering such items to entice consumers to buy only to make the item available to all later.

The RMC should be in the C-store or purchasable with Lobi. I'd buy the damn thing! +5 to all power levels? Seriously, that is some unfair advantage.
Tyr shall give me strength! For the glory of Tempus! I am the hands of Shar! Flames of Kossuth, protect me! Oghma, grant me knowledge! Lolth commands, and I obey!
That wouldn't be particularly fair to those who spent the extra money to get the collector's edition. I don't like the gouging now that it's out of print, but one has to consider the extra cost people paid for it versus the regular edition.
Yeah! Think of people like me that spent TEN TEN TEN dollars on my CE and pin and capacitor back in the day OP! Don't be so selfish.
Joking aside, I think the better solution is actually just to nerf the thing. I've bought a lot of CE's and preorder bonuses in games where you get an item that's better than what you'll find in the first 10-20 some levels of a game that is useful. But those kinds of items still always got replaced eventually because their static stats eventually became obsolete in the face of newer and better gear.
The RMC is nothing like this. It's an item that is every bit as useful in hardcore pvp endgame when you're 50 than it was when you were a bright eyed lieutenant. The way it's stats scales with numbers and power levels that stay the same make it always relevant and always extremely useful for every ship and every level and every build in the entire game. At the same time it's not also just a "handy" item to have. It's THE BEST item you could POSSIBLY EVER SLOT in your device slots. It has no charges, unlimited uses. Flat out outclasses anything you could ever put in it's place. There isn't even any thought behind it. There's no "depends", if you have it, you should use it. Because it's completely in a league of it's own. As if that weren't enough you have it on ALL your characters you make, or will ever make. The thing is like a god item.
If you play p2w games you actually do need to p2w. Anyone that ever played this game in a seriously/competitively manner, condone p2w and the p2w mentality.:D Have fun.
In that case Cryptic almost might better sell it for 5000 zen or something on the C store. A high price, but it's a road to getting it that didn't exist before. Cryptic has already whored out every other CE item so they are hardly "sacred". Ultimately though Cryptic is foolish not to because $80 spent on a capacitor on Ebay is basically $0 for Cryptic. At least if they charged a kings ransom for it in the C store the compensation goes to them.

Well when I wanted a RMC I wasn't working and all at the so all I did was save up 50 bucks and it was already available to public for 3 years before I got me a RMC so time to get it wasn't an issue, steam ship and other collector edition stuff has been given out before like reusable batteries and that with a quartermaster doff is better than any RMC or any other device in game and available, so if we cryptic wants to put in bank wouldn't you want cryptic to put all collectors edition gear in zen store so collect ability is nothing much and all can have it all without consideration to all before that bought saved or got for a birthday ? Should have its collector issue gear to be next to nothing collectable anymore ? Not !!! go save find buy like rest of every single person before you so don't complain and make you own words make you look selfish and greedy and needy just go out buy it and then you can be like rest with a collector item have a nice red matter day !!
Perhaps if I explained the epicness if the RMC, more people would be fore a re-release.
Maintenance doffs cause the RMC to give +five to all systems...this is a cap increase.
So basically RMC plus maintenance doffx3= +15 power which is basically +30% damage. That's just the epicness on the weapons system.
Throw in quatermaster for 100% reduction and a weapons battery to cycle when it's on cool down...
We have a near broken piece of sexyness.
a nearly broken peace of sexiness that you had to invest early on in the game to get lol... and you can still technically get it by buying the collectors edition..
don't devalue what we paid for the collectors edition just because some people were not smart enouph to buy it when it was out. I spent a lot of money purchasing this game, which is now free to download. I look at it now as I purchased those perks..
I love how everyone in this world has the "everyone gets a prize" mentality. honestly, you used to have to work for a chance to get gear.. now, its a certainty, the only cost is a grind.. I miss the days when you had to think, and work to get your gear. now you have people who have gear, and do not know how to use it..
cryptic released ways around the red matter capacitor. the battery build you described works just as well with.... waite for it.... a battery..
but I have no doubt, that cryptic will just ignore the people who paid and supported them in the beginning, and just give everyone a trophy... its what they do.. alienate one part of the community to make the other happy..
im still down for a compromise of them releasing a lesser copy.. something that gives less of a power boost. (I wont talk about the subsystem repair, cause that has never worked... lol) or maybe only boosts three power levels..
They should put the Red Matter Capacitor in the CStore for 500 zen. It's not fair that the collectors editon is only avaialbe if you want to pay almost $90 to scalpers for it. Almost every build on STO Academy has the Red Matter Capacitor.
or Cryptic could sell an electronic version of the Collector's Edition themselves, alongside the various starter packs. That wouldnt bother me at all
Dahmius, I have one of those DOFFs on most of my chars since we got them free last year from a promo but it is very low reward for the frequency at which they are used, basically all it does is buff the RMC from +25 to each subsystem up to +30 to each subsystem. A little buff but not really noticeable compared to what it does for regular batteries. With DOFFs being saved in ship profiles now, it is more viable option.
ps--neither the RMC nor the DOFF raise the power cap by 5 as suggested in a couple of posts. The soft-cap stays at 125 always, and AFAIK the hard-cap does not go over 130 either (with the RMC).

id be game for this, but.. you would have to pay the same amount we did to get the addition.. that makes it fair for us who did pay back in the day..
as far as the comments that other mmo's eventually release items like this that were only available in a special edition, well, to that I say bollocks.. I have played a lot of mmo's and in almost every single one that I have purchased the special edition, the items I received stayed true to the special edition..
I think your confusing that most games on a yearly, to every other year basis increase their level cap, and thus gear that was had in the vanilla editions becomes inherently useless.. that is a big problem with sto, cryptic, and part of the player bases lack of wanting to increase the level cap, and thus the level of items means that we are going to start running into more problems like this, as it will never make any item obsolete.. (its actually kind of boring if you ask me, I used to like getting the reset switch and having to rework my toons, gave me something to do..).
The idea that if people buy power items (limited/pre-order or in-game stores) that are only available for pay then you are a smart cookie and should win the game. Is the exact reason I don't talk to people that play p2w games and are completely usable to take anything they have to say seriously. Bottom line, no power items should ever be sold for money. People that believe otherwise are utter gubbers.
i think its pretty admirable that cryptic havent caved and made this available. its a reward for being an early adopter. you cant always get everything you want.
It's about the only award left for being an early adopter.

No, it is perfectly fair according to basic economics.
CE's are rarer now, thus cost more.
The RMC (and, for the record, I don't have one) was a specific reward for buying in early to the game. There were some others too.
While its a fine piece of equipment, it is far from necessary.
Ships will fly and be thoroughly competitive without it.
Now what is fair is the idea that those who paid money early on, and thus ensured there'd be a game for those who of us joined later to join, get something for that.
As for STO Academy, get in touch with them and ask niely if they'd consider putting more non-RMC versions of builds up, if thats where you get your builds from.
I don't know them, but they seem like helpful people to me.
I'm surprised this item was in the game to begin with. It comes from the new JJverse and not the original universe this game is based on. Paramount owns the JJverse and CBS films owns the original and they are the ones who license this game.
I have the red matter capacitor and it isn't game breaking. I picked it up Nov 2012 when it was dirt cheap on Amazon for 11.99 and I bought another as a gift for someone. I've been playing the game since launch but wasn't going to spend $80 back then for it.
I don't think it should be sold in the c-store as it lessens the value everyone paid for it including those who are buying it now for $84. I would support throwing into the Lifetime Subs as a bonus perk since LTS people paid at least $200 anyways. Many LTS folks bought those collectors edition sets in the beginning anyways. This would give an avenue for it to be acquired today with a significant investment in the game's future just like those early adopters. I don't think $5 from c-store appreciates the value of the item or those who invested in the game early.
Gold Sub since March 2010
Lifetime Sub since June 2010
I'm surprised this item was in the game to begin with. It comes from the new JJverse and not the original universe this game is based on. Paramount owns the JJverse and CBS films owns the original and they are the ones who license this game.
The rebooted timeline is part of the JJverse, but the events leading up to it are part of the prime timeline.
And STO's setting and core plot is directly built on the events preceeding Star Trek 2009.
So if you don't think this item should be in the game because its JJverse, then the entire Legacy of Romulus expansion should never have been either, or even the entire Romulan story arc.
Well I bought the Gold edition back in 2010 so I got the RMC. I always pick it up on every of my toons, but to be honest, I usually use it at low levels. Like when I fight Orion cruisers or battleships with my Miranda. The higher level I have, the less I use the console. It really is not that much of an advatage when you have a good equipment and skills.
It wouldn't be collectible if it were reprinted. The entire point is that it was a one-off, a limited number of copies. That's what makes things collectible.
May I say that this excuse reeks heavily of "I have this and I don't want you to."?
There have been things labeled "collectible" and been re-printed and re-released yet still collectible because the serial numbers, dates, and other identifications aren't the same.
FFS the RMC is just data, and technically you don't own it. Your "collectible" device could disappear tomorrow if cryptic so wishes, and you'll the proud owner of an empty device slot.

If not the red matter, they could at least buff both the Enhanced Induction Coils and Enhanced Plasma Manifold consoles.
^This, a lot of other gemmick consoles (definitely not passives like plasmonic leech or valoder console) could use a move to device slot too.
The rebooted timeline is part of the JJverse, but the events leading up to it are part of the prime timeline.

i clearly would buy it then
cryptic would make some profit and all players that dont have it yet at least would get the chance to get and use it
If so you can still buy it for under $30 USD after conversion...
