Worst part is, next month they bring out a c-store pack, but you still need the anniversary ship for the 4 piece set..
I wanted to throw some money to cryptic cause i hate the grinding, but no if i want the ship i must grind and throw money (for the 10 console) at cryptic.... Not going to happen....

I tried the minigame yesterday after 40 minutes of running around 2 miniQ tagged, there were plenty of miniQ on the area but every time I approached one you couldn't interact with them because they already were tagged and they just sat there. No respawn whatsoever, so after 40 minutes frustration settled in and I was about to start hating the rest of the players, but then I realized they are in my same case.

So time to sleep and turned off the PC, day 1 BIG FAIL, I cannot finish the quest and now IK am moving to day 2 to tag 3 more miniQ and then finish hopefully tonight the quest that count 1 quest 2 days, if this is the norm I will not be able to finish the event even getting 1 ship for my 7 toons.

Big Fail indeed to those of us who work and can only spare 1-2 hours, 40 minutes and only 2 tags.

Whoever said you can do this event in 5 minutes didn't take in consideration the hundreds of players running around trying to do the same thing at the same time.

    Big Fail indeed.

That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.

That is exactly how the Free to Play model works. Casual players don't have the time to do everything, they take out their wallets. Full time players can't pay a dime anyway.

At least other MMOs didn't had the F2P (Free to Pay) option so grindwise I was always lagging behind.

Myself I could not complete anything yesterday because of the server issues. I'm away at work for a few days still and can only log on a few hours after dinner. So I'll take out my wallet eventually.

I don't mind paying for the ship I did the main FE yesterday and I love the ship, the problem is that I read you must have the ship that you get here to be able to have all the 4 parts? Is this true?

There are two 4pc sets. One is the one you get for replaying the mission and the other is one piece from the grind ship and three from the c store bundle.

If you want both you need to rerun the FE and then buy the 5k zen three pack when it comes out.

Any minigame is going to be boring after you've run it 15 times on a dozen characters. Waste of effort to improve it.

Don't post much, but I have a question I really want the devs to answer.

At any point during creation and testing did someone play The Party Patrol shell game and think it was fun? (even slightly enjoyable?)

I personally play games for enjoyment, and I assume the devs intend an enjoyable experience.

(yes I know, blah blah, not being forced to do it... your comment isn't necessary)

Did they consider the possibility of a grindable daily with an enjoyable minigame? I personally think its possible.

I really didn't think I'd ever miss the fastest game oh ice. I mean I hate the mission too but mainly because I did it too often. It was actually kind of fun the beginning.

Party patrol on the other hand.... This is just awful. Period. Nothing to redeem it. As I said before, whoever made that mission should be prohibited the ever touch an electronic device in his life again.

With that new level of server crashing, the grind, grind in the grind just to have to pay money in the end after all, and party patrol and a generally not working update (ship switching crashes my computer) this is officially a new low point of this game. Maybe it finally jumped the shark...

I know there's the engine/shield/deflector/core set, where the core is locked up in the freebie ship's box.

I also know there's 3 consoles in the 3 pack. What would be the fourth piece of that set? The Secondary Deflector in the freebie box?
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

The worst think is if yoe want to use that ship to full potential you have to grind AND buy the ship since the grind version has a unique set piece

    I don't hate it.

    I don't think that it's great fun, but I don't hate it.

I do not like that it can be rigged, though, with the boxes sometimes stacking on top of each other and the qs being able to switch into any of those boxes. No way to be sure unless the q runs from one box to another or you can catch a glimpse of him sticking out the side of a box at some later point.

    ==========

But I will tell you what is absolutely, 100% not enjoyable.

When some jerk decides to stand right in the path of the boxes, adding even more obstacles to your being able to tell which box he is in.

Or when someone decides to start activating abilities that result in all sorts of lighting effects and visual obstructions.

Maybe a bunch of people could even decide to just wander around and make tracking the q absolutely impossible.

This is something that shouldn't be possible.

Switch the shell game to a "window" game.

Whether it be like data-mining, dilithium mining, the artifact sorting on Defera, Radiation samples on New Romulus, or some other new system, I shouldn't have to deal with a bunch of people who's life sucks so much that all they can do to make themselves feel better is to try and drag other people down while playing a game.

this. what i have been doing is standing in SFA till i can find an instance with less than 20 people so i can get to the game in peace.

    oh, and +1 for whack a Q

I picked up Party patrol just to see what was required to do a Grind/Reward assessment. Did one of the five needed, opened my mission journal and hit Drop.

You're on your own with that one Cryptic. The Winter event race was grindable on all my characters simply because I had it down to a science and could do it in about a minute. The TRIBBLE about level on party patrol, well not going to bother on even one character.

I'm debating if I should grind the Featured episode three times alone.

    start the game 1st^^

    --> so press "b" = shootermodus

the crosshaires will show u where the little TRIBBLE is (after he stopped changing ^^)

press "b" again (out of shootermodus not necessary but ok)

I will never understand the aversion of people to actually playing the game. Its not like you are being asked to do anything other than play the game and everything you do in endgame pve counts towards something.

Here's a beef I have with it. If you're going to have it at Starfleet Academy, wouldn't it make sense to have Q at Starfleet Academy? Or at least give us the ability to turn in the mission without having to go back to Q? That really sucks.

Now, THAT would have been a blast.

well It's always been per character.

And considering how powerful the ship is this time compared to the last couple of ships, i am not shocked this one is a grind.

I mean good god, when you actually get the ship it's going to give you:

The dual cannons for tactical mode, the warp engine and IIRC the secondary dish along with if you do the mission 3 times you get the 3 modules all level 12.

Hell I'll suffer a grind to get that. though I only plan on doing 3 out of my 7 characters for that.

1 of them has every anniversary ship, another well my fed rom doesn't have really a flagship and well my science officer needs something cool. I might break down and do a 4th for my main character.

I don't mind the grind myself - I'll be doing it for all three of my characters, but even if I had more (Which I probably will have by the end of the anniversary), I seriously doubt I'd bother... I've run the Party Patrol quest three times now, and its undoubtedly going to be irritating by the time I run it 45 times... Still, that's going to be 22,500 Dilithium (~180 zen) as well, so I'll put up with it.

I am a comatose player. I am far beyond casual. I fall asleep while mining, wake up and finish it an hour later.

I've had no issues really. Changing instances is great advice and is what got me through this quest easily.

It's just a matter of looking at the solution and not the problem. Good luck OP and hope today finds better results for you.

Well I managed this morning before going to work to finish it and I am thankful that still is counting the hour of reset from the moment I started yesterday so I only have 9 more hours of cooldown and honestly didn't think about changing instances so I am going to try this tonight.

Changing zones often don't work, depending on zones available. Some times of the day only a few zones are open and they're all nearly full, making miniquest impossible. Other times there are plenty with only a few players open. There need to be an option to swap yourself to a new zone, as opposed to existing zones.

As Cryptic say they're reading this thread, feedback!

1: The Featured episode had its high points and was quite enjoyable (Top tips: Give Cooper a phaser and tell him to man up! Or summon Security escorts while in the environmental suits :D). Cooper with the phaser actually had me hitting the tab and crouch button. So it elicited a real world response. Then I started laughing.

I was surprised about the lack of "Icarus" accolade...

Minor quibble with the writing it mentions it twice: "[...]the heat and radiation[...]"
Pardon me, but isn't Heat a type of radiation?

Equally the plot twist was one I didn't see and the characters were well written, Dr Cooper especially, along with the art design of the guy.

On the down side, am I the only one thinking that Dyson spheres are popping up every 5 seconds? The end of the mission did seem a bit Deus ex machina. As someone who couldn't tell you squat about the lore of ST, it left me scratching my head and thinking wait what?

2: The Grind and such. Now I realise you need people playing your game, and you want to incentivise them to do so. Fair enough.
But the level of Grind, coming so soon after the winter event grind is either A) too much, or B) leading to burn out, not sure which in my case. I have a lot of characters, and I suspect I'm not high on he list of number of captains.
the Winter event race was grindable because it took about a minute, and the way to fail it was with you TRIBBLE up. This one not so, I was running around for 5 minutes wondering what I was meant to do before I found an unoccupied party goer bloke and worked it out from there. After that I'd lost the will to play and dropped the mission.

Now the featured episode. I am thinking of replaying the FE three times just to get the set on a couple of my characters. So that's at least 6 play throughs of the mission, maybe more if I use some of my Alts.
Might I suggest Splitting the requirement of Qmendations between the three missions. So play it three times and you get the full 4 piece set (and the ship)? That way the Grind is a manageable level, the Players get a reward, and you get people playing. Especially as the Summer event will have that flying race to get the Pearls and will start in a couple of months.

What I'm trying to say is: To much grind and people play less. Take for instance the Summer event I did that exactly enough to unlock some costume pieces on some characters, and the corvette on one.

Yeah, I am not exactly a big fan of this mini game either. What I feel about it falls somewhere in between animosity and loathing.

Having to compete with 100 other players on the same map for the same resources is annoying. The shell game fills me with malice, and when it appears I just ignore it and search for another miniQ.

The whack-a-Q idea has merit though. ;)

Starfleet Academy Map is capped to 40.

It would possibly help if the mini-Qs would spawn in the full-breadth of the map instead of just the central area [ie, the back-hallways and outskirts of the buildings].

Although currently, I'm thinking it's just the 'servers are finally back up' with a lot of rush and time condensed there, will see obviously, but bleh.

And you have to realize - if you want that ship actually on 8 or 16 different characters, this will cut deep into your available paly time, having to do somethnig you were not interested in instead of the stuff you were interested in.
