I went to a lot of effort install the ARC client on the Mac. Even after fully patching, it takes over ten minutes for the client to start up. The client is sluggish and constantly flickering.

All of that to get to the Khan outfit, select it, and find that it's not really available once I switch back to the regular Mac client.

So how many gigabytes and hours did I just waste to your corporate greed?

Hi there. Sorry, I missed the first post about it. Unfortunately, Arc is PC only, so the promo wouldn't be available for Mac users unfortunately. I'll pass along the feedback.

    Cheers,

As you can see from branflakes post ARC is not MAC compatable at this moment.

So it's true what they say, that MAC are much safer than PC, free from virus, spyware etc? I'll be darn'd. :P

Good that i have a 2nd PC were i can install arc, i 100% dont put it on my main PC!

Steam, Origin, UPlay are more then enough of this Kind of Software so put STO on on of this ... its already on Steam so no need for Arc

And if i later have to use Arc or Steam because the only with Cryptic Laucher, STO might not work anymore i will use my Steam Version of STO. I dont like any other Arc Game and never will.

And i made a 2nd STO Acc to test the new Outfit 1. before i login with my main Acc.
Because it dont looks the good the new Khan outfit.

You should post this on the Arc feedback thread

Errr ... thanks for your concern , but when I feel like I and the rest of the players are being manipulated into installing Arc via this "promo" , then my feedback goes to this promo .

I am a massive fan of anything canon, I may never wear it but if there is a means to get free something that existed in canon I will do it. That being said, I will not have Arc on my computer.

So my solution, I unplugged all my drives, got an old hard drive, gave it a few formats and installed basic WinXP SP2. All it needed was a graphics driver and a copy of my game files and I was done. Now the drive sits in a draw ready in case it is ever needed again, I hope PWE enjoys the mountains of personal info it gains from a clean windows install.

Agreed. I can't believe that PWE is so desperate to get people to use arc that it resorts to freebies....

If I ever do install Arc, it will be on a virtual box partition away from the rest of my main OS and programs and it will be just for getting these freebies...

Is that likely to happen? No? I don't want spyware on my computer so no thank you.

they said, day one when they introduced arc that there was going to be promotions that will be arc exclusive. I for one like arc, I can log on instantly and i get the news as soon as my comps on, never have to go onto my internet unless i really want to. then again i don't play any other mmo.

If you have feedback relating to ARC itself, then it belongs on the feedback thread. As for being manipulated. No one is being manipulated to do anything, we are all free to do as we please, like you choose to play STO or not, we choose to play STO through ARC or Steam, or stand alone launcher.

As much as I want to be cynical and agree with you, this is just not true.
Before you install Arc, there's a legal agreement which most people skip over, if you go and actually read it, it does mention the data it collects, and it only collects data from WITHIN the program, there's no mention of them collecting data from your use other software or services, so if they were doing this they'd be doing it in violation to the U.S. Computer Fraud and Abuse Act or as in my home country, the U.K.'s Computer Misuse Act, which no indemnity clause can overturn. Frankly PWE aren't that stupid, if they were collecting private data from your pc or browser they'd mention it.

I caved and downloaded Arc. Mainly so I could outfit my Nausi-khan pirate toon in appropriate attire :D
Not noticing Arc doing anything hinky so far. Antivirus/malware software up-to-date and running nicely, no permissions granted to Arc, Not much going on in Arc that interests me but honestly not seeing the bad yet. I'll keep it for a week and see how I feel then.

You people realize that downloading and using ARC for just the costume does indeed mean that ARCs download and log-in stats are rising, thus making it easier for them to justify the step of making it mandatory? ('X players already downloaded and use ARC')

You really think there's a choice? ARC isn't an idea they are kicking around and seeing if people like it or want it, you will be forced to use ARC to access STO sometime in the near future and you don't think that's being manipulated?

99.9% of users downloaded ARC during the freebie period
After the freebie period 0.001% of users logged in using ARC.
So as long as everyone uninstall's it then hopefully the message that people don't want it will get through

PWE could give away every c-store ship and outfit for free to players who use arc and I still wouldn't use arc ... not even to log-in, claim the freebies, and uninstall.

Hey, PWE, instead of wasting time and effort on arc, please fix the bugs in STO and maybe assign a team of devs to make sure STO is ready to use the new Steam controller when Valve's Steambox platform launches this year. I'm sure many of us would like to play STO from the comfort of our living room and HDTV.
In the immortal words of Captain Sisko: "It may not be what you believe, but that doesn't make it wrong."

Don't believe the lies in this forum. I am NOT an ARC user. I play STO on Steam or not at all.

You have no idea what you are talking about. One not everyone visits the forums or post on the forums. ARC works fine, is not a resource hog like people, it barely uses any resources and barely takes any room up on your computer

Actually, when comparing it to the superior platform that Arc is copying (Steam), it does.

Arc uses 8 times the memory, has 2 or more processes (Steam has 1) and also attempts to install plugins to your browsers....

As shady unified launcher programs go, Arc is up there with Origin and makes even that program look like roses and sunshine.

Some people do not have highend gaming systems, and barely beat the minimum requirements. Those people have a legitimate reason to complain as to why Arc needs so many resources....

It does *nothing* that cannot already be done with existing software. I think that qualifies as "bloatware" in my book.
No really, my initial reaction on starting it up for the first time was bewilderment; had I started steam by mistake? No. Arc looks, feels and does everything steam does, other than give access to the huge catalogue of games available on steam. One of which is STO.

So tell me again, why do we/I need/want arc?
    I need a beer.

LOL no it doesn't I am running ARC right now and it only uses 65.5k for the ARCOSBrowser exe and 13k for the ARC exe itself. It has never installed plugins to my browser.

The only bloatware is what you think. ARC is not bloatware. If you want bloatware go install Steam.

CPU usage before ARC is installed 20%
CPU usage when ARC is installed 100%
CPU usage after ARC is uninstalled 20%

So yeah, you're right ARC is using absolutely no resources what so ever
