Friendly reminder: we have Dev Blogs planned that will explain more about the Ship Management System, event revamp, etc. They will answer many of your questions
Re: the bonus mark event, you'll get your first taste of plans for this with our first weekend event announcement coming up later today.
Surely these are highly sought after improvements.. I have always wanted savable ship configurations.(since like day 2 of launch) I wonder if it will be limited to gear, BOffs, DOffs and have to hold all secondary (or alternate)gear configs in current inventory or an improvement on that as well, a safety to have in mind for DOffs at least would be a reserve status that does not allow them to be traded or sent on missions until pulled from the reserve status manually, perhaps the place of the overflow back could be re-imagined for gear for "reserve' or alternate gear builds. Lots of little parts but each is very important.
Interesting with the ships. So guess we aren't getting canonical ships.
Another area we looked at was the hourly event calendar. Our data showed that few of these events were being played often, and so we are re-envisioning the hourly events as weekend-long events with better rewards.
Well this is a given.
You nerfed Tour the Galaxy and took out any reason to play it.
There is no reason to play the Vault Event, since originally it was to earn Reman Sets.
Crafting event, had no purpose since nobody wanted to spend dilithium to craft.
The only events people do play is the Mirror Event (some now because it's the only way to get Fed ship kills) and the obvious Mark Boost Event, which is necessary for people grinding Fleet Marks to progress their fleets.
And there's something exciting for players that have many starships in spacedock! With the Season 8.5 update, you will be able to easily switch between your starships in sector space and social zones
OMG, I was just joking about this last night! Hate to say it, but switching from outside of the shipyard just means more lazy gameplay and less reason to go to the shipyards. This game is becoming so couch-potatoy we don't even have to leave ESD anymore.
Hm, switching to ships anywhere outside of missions? Are we supposed to imagine we take all our ships with us, all the time?
Well don't we already imagine all of our ships already reside at ESD, DS9, Romulan Command, and the various other places that have a ship selector at any time we want them.
If you're into RP - lets go with this line of imagination.
All of your ships are now housed in your Fleet's starbase (just pretent you have a starbase of your own, if not then pretent ESD is your home starbase (FED or Rom Fed only) etc.
You're in the middle of a quadrant, and suddenly need another ship. You hail (space subcom, etc.) your starbase "Begin Transmission: Captain Raymond to Commander Blozdel. Commander Blozdel here sir. I'm heading into Voth Space, can you transwarp to the nearest available place and pilot the "insert ship here" to my coordinates immediately. yes sir, right away End Transmission.
Now STO is a game, and the space time continuum is not set in our own reality - so the above scenario is emulated by the click of the READY STARSHIP button. - Sounds pretty cool and convenient to me.

Bran, forget ship management system, I hope to almighty someone goes through the revamped missions (Starting with Admiral Quinn when you finish the tutorial) and fixes the ton of spelling and grammatical mistakes. Can you please pass that tidbit along. Most of the new missions have dialogue that needs fixing... This is not only the interact screens but the BOFF comment popups on the side window too..

Always excited to hear about Quality of life updates, new voice talents being added, and new ships. Thanks devs, can't wait to see what you've got for us!
If I could though: with the coming ship swapping feature, my biggest annoyance when swapping between ships is always having to redo my power tray. Can y'all please do your best to link individual power tray setups with individual ships, if possible?
Doohan would be the obvious choice for a Dyson related story line, but since he is no longer with us, Scotty did work closely with LaForge in that episode...
If it's more to do with some Delta Quadrant location, with the presence of a sphere being incidental to the story, a member of the Voyager crew might be a plausible choice. In which case I would vote for Tim Russ or Robert Picardo. Both Tuvok and the EMH could easily be around in this later era.
Interesting with the ships. So guess we aren't getting canonical ships.
When does the new changes of the old mission revamp goes live? Tomarrow? Or is this later, since they are still updating those missions?
Well this is a given.

Nothing stops you from going to ESD Azurian. I don' think any change designed to improve the quality of life have made you happy.
Sounds like a great update! Nice to see a mix of the new (new content/story) and some attention on some long-standing issues with the game. Excellent to see this coming out so soon after the previous major release! I'm cautiously optimistic as this being a harbinger of the new pacing/focus we can expect with the new built-out team.
I hope so. I really like his character in Voyager and I really love that he's working with Star Trek Renegades (which I hope is as good as it looks - you can see the trailers on You Tube).
I really, really like that instead of just making something new, they're making an 8.5 and fixing, improving, adding too what exists. Yes, we'll get a FE, which is great, but all the improvements (swapping ships and gear, etc) are really appreciated and make a great addition to the game!
And I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I love the thought of shuttle PvP. I'm not a PvP'er, because I don't have all the best gear, but I'd do shuttle PvP because it really is a limited ship so it levels the playing field IMHO.
Now, to dream of update 8.75 - Console Slot / Device Revamp
Hi. Apparently I'm new here and joined in Jun 2012. Guess I'm in good company though... seems everyone else joined then too!
But switching ships in sector space and social zones, does this mean the shipyard NPC is going away and the mechanics being somehow integrated into the UI...or something?
And yup, one less reason to go to any hub now. Soon there will be no point in using warp drive when we can just transwarp and access everything from anywhere...
Quality of life Improvement: This missed its season 7ish roll out
Bridge Officer Transfer, Trade, Training exchange, recruitment that allows for training bound commissioned officers on the same account, and allows easier transfer between Captains, and Captains on the same account. It could consist of a account roster that commissioned officers could be moved back and forth for training and transfer (including bound officers).
The second could be a exchange that could be for bridge officers and training or a vendor you drop your BOFF at to ensure its safe return, and Captains could train skills for energy credits, (whatever is the going rate from the vendor). This system was something similar to my initial suggestion that Stahl, that he was on board with upon his return and said to look for it around season 7, but it missed the boat
Also we have been waiting for the ship interior NPC uniform selection, special(bound) BOFFs costume changes, Foundry features returned for costume importing... able to have our BOFFS show up on our bridges, and maybe a slotting tool as to where would be nice.
You're getting rid of Bonus Marks hour? How about instead of increasing grind you increase the payouts to something sane and level them out across the reputations?
How about we wait and see what they do, since they said the current Calendar stuff is going to be replaced with something? Maybe we'll get a daily mission that gives a pool of bonus marks, who knows?
I love being told what I hate, thanks for that. I personally think The Vault Shuttle Mission and Atmospheric Assault have great, challenging gameplay (not great for PUGs, but that's okay). I agree that the rewards aren't great.
Azure Nebula appears to be one of the most popular queuable missions. The payout could perhaps be better (I don't love payouts with a hard cap...why can't the reward just be a multiplier of the final score?).
The Vault: Ensnared can be fun to play, but is unquestionably less popular. My thoughts on the pay out are the same as Azure Nebula.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
I'm not interested in daily wrapper missions instead of in-built rewards. I really dislike those in Neverwinter (as in, I always forget to take them -- something I flag to unintuitive design) and don't want that trend to continue with STO too.
My recommendation is to follow the Foundry-style daily reward to qualifying foundry missions - except, if you fulfill what's being promoted daily, then you get a little extra - once - daily. Simpler for the user, more intuitive, more rewarding.
And yup, one less reason to go to any hub now.
I'm not sure what the appeal was there, anyway. So I can be spammed with party poppers and disco balls while I try to do some banking?
As far as I'm concerned, most visits to a starbase should be specific to a mission's story line. There's no reason why I can't manage a personal "bank" housed on a starbase, via subspace communications. We could even make exchange purchases, and have your item waiting for you in a bank when you next visit a base. Costume changes? My ship has closets and replicators. Vendors? I can acquire rep gear anywhere, so the "physical" vendor requirement is already out the window.
And please do not reply to me like a smart@ss 12 year old. If all you've got is "Um, it's, like, called a "MMORPG" for a reason, and junk.," then just skip it.

True. But if you are talking from a real Trek viewpoint, you're not going to have a fleet of ships following you and switching ships on a whim. (Well yeah, if you are an Admiral in a battle fleet, yes you can, but not doing errand runs. :P )
I can see the Marks being almost every weekend as it is the most popular.
I don't know may people that do the Starfleet Academy, Vault, Multi Phasic anymore.
Multiphasic is nice and all when it's up, but it's not like I'm going to go "dude time to run some missions and scan some stuff" if I wasn't already planning to.
The Academy event is waaaay too Skinner Box for me to ever do. And I genuinely loathe beaming down to the Academy for DOff stuff and hearing the sound effects for it, it ranks second in annoyance only to the Winter Event NPCs. It takes away from the quiet ambiance of sending extra Bartenders to new assignments.
No tears will be shed for Academy event going away.
I love the changes. My only concern is for Mirror Invasion... just make sure Mirror Invasion is not a daily it needs to be playable for more than once a day. It is really the only place you can get expertise in a decent amount. Take out the dilithium if you have to but until other ways are added to earn expertise in end game content you need to keep this one alive.
Expertise really should be rewarded in decent quantities while playing any content including end game stuff like Dyson. The XP on Nukara is good but no other reason to go there if you're done with Nukara rep and it's on cooldowns. My old toons have tons of XP but all my new ones can't earn it fast enough to do their reps.

I'm going to go out on a limb and start the "based off nothing" speculation but considering the Sphere is in the delta quadrant I'll go ahead and presume the character coming into STO is from Voyager. I'm also going to stick my neck out and guess that the character will be (dun dun dun) Tuvok.
Whoever it is, I'm sure it'll be really fun. I can't wait. Long live STO
I dunno, I'm going to go out on a limb and say Jennifer Lien will be bringing Kes back.
She would be a lot easier to integrate into the storyline than Tuvok, and give more story flexibility.
Welp time to buy some more ship slots and this new "set system" for different ship builds sounds amazing I cannot wait for that feature. Although I'm confused a little bit with the blog with what it said is it possible to change starship while in sector space if so I could really care less about it; I believe it made more sense traveling to a starbase to change starships.
